7 F IL M ACCESS INI T IAT I V E SLFS s most robust mission initiative and founding purpose is to provide the community with access to film programming not found anywhere else. Our programs are carefully curated to engage the community with the highest quality films that educate, advocate, and inform about and through cinema. And we do this every day of the year. SLFS is the only independent film venue within 200 miles * L OCA L V ENUE ACCESS A community project providing low cost event and screening opportunities to local organizations. SLFS Annual year-end celebration and awardseason preview for SLFS board members, donors, sponsors, and partners. OPEN CA P T ION SCREENINGS Weekly screenings of our first run films presented with open captions for the hearing impaired. THE GREATEST is our annual event to celebrate the art of filmmaking. Each year we highlight an aspect artists, themes, countries, whatever we want, really. In 2016 we honored black film directors and this year we honor the musical. We choose these films with a multitude of criteria including quality of filmmaking, cultural significance, and emotional resonance. Then we give you the opportunity to spend a whole month watching them in all their resplendent glory on the big screen. Become immersed in the color, movement, and sound as you only can in the theater. SUMMER L AT E NIGH T S A community favorite brings together diverse audiences who love genre and cult classics. THE GREATEST isn t meant to be definitive, it s meant to be a moment. A moment to identify and discuss our current social landscape through the proverbial mirror of film; and as the proverbial beholders, we recognize the subjectivity in all of this and welcome your interaction. Tell us about your favorite musical and why you think it s the greatest, using the tag #GreatestSLFS SING W I T H: GRE AT MUSICA L S Highlights the genre of horror through interactive film screenings. SCHOOL NIGH T F IL M SERIES F OCUS E V EN T You may note the glaring omission of your favorite or be appalled at the inclusion of something contemporary. Regardless, this program illustrates the luxurious tapestry of the musical art form and provides a commentary on our lives. TOW ER OF T ERROR Engages young audiences in the art of cinema by providing free screenings every week for those under 21. L GB T SCREENING SERIES Audiences don t just watch these films, they stand up and sing along; costumes recommended. WASSA IL & WA F F L ES HOL IDAY F IL M SERIES A holiday tradition providing good cheer and free movies for underserved audiences.
