9 Marine Corps Family Team Building For many people, January is the traditional time to make resolutions. Resolutions usually involve some sort of change: quit smoking, lose weight, volunteer more, work less, spend more time with family; the list is endless. The problem with resolutions is that they are virtually asking to be broken! The first time we light up, miss a day at the gym, skip the PTA meeting, work late, or hide out from the kids our brains scream failure! We usually end up feeling worse than we did to begin with! This January, instead of making resolutions, try making small, achievable life changes. Think of things that are do-able: instead of resolving to go to the gym every day for an hour, find creative ways to fit 1000 extra steps into your day. Rather than swearing off chocolate and potato chips, allow yourself to have small, controlled portions. Feeling guilty about not volunteering more? Visit to find ways you can help that fit your schedule. Above all, cut yourself some slack; you're only human!
