Young Rembrandts teaches the drawing skills children need while developing learning skills that give children an academic advantage in the classroom. Saturday September 25, 1:30-4 p.m. Code: $35 New and Different Hands in Motion Signing through music Ages 6-Adult This class takes the basics of sign language and puts it to music! Learn the art of communicating the message of a song in a silent language. Each week we ll work on a new piece, sampling from a variety of musical styles. Younger participants (6-10) are encouraged to attend with an adult. No experience necessary; beginners encouraged! Taught by Jimmy Cruz, an experienced sign interpreter for a variety of theatre groups in the metro area. Keyboards for Kids has been training young musicians since 2003 and is taught by top-notch educators who have focused experience working with children. Participants learn the basics, opening the door to a life-long love of music. Topics covered include playing, programming, music theory, improvisation, and so much more! Keyboards provided onsite. Mondays, 4-4:45 p.m. (8 weeks) September 13-November 1 $110 Resident/$120 Non-Resident (Bring $10 for the materials fee collected by instructor at first class) Code: Group Guitar This group class is a great way to de-mystify one of the cornerstone instruments in building a strong musical base. In this 8-week course areas covered will include: proper posture and positioning, ageappropriate and kid-friendly music theory and fret-board harmony, notation (how to read music), beginning and advanced chords, ear training (playing by ear), and rhythmic training using the natural percussive qualities of the guitar. And don t forget some great music games! This is a noncompetitive and encouraging atmosphere to ensure confidence and success. Come give it a try. Participants: bring your own appropriate sized guitar to class. RhythmVision is an educational program that uses music, art, and technology along with the principles of belonging, independence, mastery, and generosity to reach people and to strengthen communities. Make Your Own Hand Drum Ages 8-Adult Start off by playing your beat in a drum circle then create your own authentic, highquality instrument. Tie-dye and stretch your goat skin drum head, attach feet, and decorate your drum body. Not your every day craft this is the real deal! Kids and adults are welcome to be a part of this new and exciting class. Dress in paint clothes.
