You will also be asked to sing the first verse of Advance Australia Fair with piano accompaniment provided. As the show will be performed as a cantata, a dialogue audition is not necessary, except for the role of May Gibbs (see below) Possible call back if required Private Auditions may be available upon request under certain circumstances CAST ANNOUNCED Friday 28 th September via phone, , RHMTC facebook page and the RHTMC Hills are Alive Event REHEARSALS Venue to be confirmed Regular rehearsals will commence Thursday 11 th October 2018 and run every Thursday night (7-9pm) and Sunday afternoon (1-4pm) until the 9 th December Rehearsals will then break for the holiday period before recommencing on Thursday 24 th January 2019 as usual. 2 Page 2 of 6 SYNOPSIS Based on the works of May Gibbs, Snugglepot and Cuddlepie The Musical brings the famous children s book characters to life. Snugglepot and Cuddlepie are two little gumnut brothers who set off on an adventure to see a human. They are joined on their quest by Mr Lizard and along the way, meet Little Ragged Blossom at a dance. Together the four adventurers meet many new bush friends and battle the evil Mrs Snake and the very scary Bad Banksia Men. CHILDRENS ROLES SNUGGLEPOT Boy Soprano One of the two protagonists of the show, Snugglepot is a gumnut who longs to see a human. Snugglepot is the leader of the two gumnuts and is often more boisterous than his brother, Cuddlepie. CUDDLEPIE Boy Soprano The second of the two protagonists, Cuddlepie is also a gumnut in search of a human. He is gentler than his brother, Snugglepot, and is seen as the quieter of the pair. RAGGED BLOSSOM Girl Soprano An orphaned gum blossom who meets Snugglepot and Cuddlepie at a dance. Ragged Blossom is kind and sweet-natured. She becomes best friends with the gumnut brothers and joins them on their adventure. WINKY Boy or Girl Soprano A frightened rat who Snugglepot and Cuddlepie meet aboard the Snag (boat). Winky was chased by snakes and banksia men outside which sent him/her scurrying back to the bottom of the boat. Snugglepot and Cuddlepie invite Winky on their adventures under their protection.

3 ADULT ROLES Page 3 of 6 MR LIZARD Tenor/Baritone Ballad style singing The kind and brave Mr Lizard is a good friend to Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, joining them on their adventures and often saving them from peril. Being a goanna, he is strong and fast and not afraid of the Bad Banksia Men or Mrs Snake. MRS SNAKE Alto Ability to hisss an advantage Wicked Mrs Snake is friends with the Big Band Banksia Men and hatches many plots with them to capture the little Gumnuts and kill her sworn enemy, Mr Lizard. BANKSIA MEN ONE, TWO & THREE Baritone/Bass Mischievous Mannerisms The Big Bad Banksia Men (together with Mrs Snake) are the villains of the story and are based on the appearance of aged Banksia "cones dark, hairy, knobbly creatures. They are always hatching wicked plots to capture the Nuts and Blossoms and Mr Lizard is their greatest enemy. MRS KOALA Alto Full, rich voice operatic style possibly an advantage A kind Koala who lives in gumnut town. She knows people see her as fat and rich and she enjoys hosting parties. POSSUM Tenor Ballad style singing A frightened possum Snugglepot and Cuddlpie find stuck in a trap. He is assisted by a human and later tries to help Snugglepot and Cuddlepie out of trouble. HUMAN Tenor/Soprano Suits male or female actor The human that saves Possum from the trap; serves to show that not all humans are bad. FRILLY Tenor/Baritone Ability to roll the letter R an advantage Grand mannerisms A frilled-neck lizard in Queen Obelia s court. He is very regal, singing and acting with very grand mannerisms.

4 Page 4 of 6 OBELIA Alto/Soprano Ability to perform a long ascending vocal glissando an advantage. Obelia grew up in a pearl at the bottom of the sea and during that time a wonderful wisdom grew in her. She is now Queen of the Fish Folk and gives advice on matters of great importance. JOHN DORY Tenor/Baritone Gentlemanly Mannerisms Greedy and cruel John Dory is an important Fish Folk and all who live under the sea are afraid of him. Although he wants to eat Snugglepot and Ragged Blossom, his love for Ann Chovy helps him become a changed creature. ANN CHOVY Soprano The brave and gentle Ann Chovy lives below the sea amongst the Fish Folk. When John Dory attacks Snugglepot and Ragged Blossom, Ann Chovy takes care of them, but has to promise to marry mean John Dory so he won t eat them. KOOKABURRA Tenor Story-teller style Kookaburra considers himself old although he s had many adventures in his time. His stories of humans is what interests Snugglepot and Cuddlepie and sets them off on their adventure. MAY GIBBS Female The only spoken role in the show, May Gibbs acts as story teller, speaking monologues throughout the show to tie the story together. VOICE Baritone/Bass A mainly speaking role, the Voice is a deep, scaring, booming male voice. GUMNUT CHOIR Snugglepot and Cuddlepie The Musical requires a large vocal ensemble that participate in a number of songs throughout the show. We invite children and adults of all ages, ranges and styles to join our Gumnut Choir. Our choir will be split into adults and children when required for particular songs. While there will be some movement for the choirs, for the majority of the show the Gumnut Choir will be placed in lines and perform as a traditional choir. Soloists who are not required for particular scenes will also be asked to join the choir.
