3 From the Artistic and Executive Director As I take a moment to consider how much Ottawa Chamberfest has grown over the past several years, I am filled with great satisfaction and gratitude.

3 3 From the Artistic and Executive Director As I take a moment to consider how much Ottawa Chamberfest has grown over the past several years, I am filled with great satisfaction and gratitude. The efforts of our talented staff, volunteers, and Board of Directors have resulted in an impressive evolution from summer festival to year-round arts organization a seminal shift that would not have been possible without the support of generous donors like you. Together, we have created an arts organization with three distinct pillars that celebrates chamber music throughout the year and truly changes lives through music. As a performing artist that has for years also experienced Chamberfest from the stage, I can tell you that musicians from all over the world cherish their time with us. Their fond memories are rooted in the fact that our highly appreciative and engaged audiences encourage and inspire performers, and elicit from them performances that are truly distinct and memorable for all. Thank you for playing your part in this live music experience, and for being a dedicated member of our Chamberfest family. I hope this overview of the Chamberfest s 2018 season provides you with the opportunity to reflect on the remarkable impact your support creates in the National Capital Region. Because of you, our team at Chamberfest can work every day to positively impact our community through the Concert Series, summer festival, and our Community Engagement and Education (CEE) programming. 4 SUMMER FESTIVAL July 26 - August 9 Passionate chamber music enthusiasts lining up around the block to hear well known artists and new discoveries alike. A celebration of chamber music, as it has grown and as it has remained at its very core. Since 1994, this has been the Ottawa Chamberfest summer festival. An excerpt from Roman Borys s welcoming remarks in the 2018 festival souvenir programme Over 70 concerts, 300+ artists, and 15 days later, the 2018 Chamberfest summer festival came to an end. And what a success it was from exquisite baroque music to Impressionist treasures and beloved string quartets, the 2018 festival began Chamberfest s 25 th anniversary with virtuosity and passion. Your support makes the summer festival possible. Your contributions to Chamberfest, whether made for the first time this year or annually for the last 25 years, have allowed us the confidence and experience to program engaging, impactful, and sustainable offerings. 5 Sopranos Mary Lou Fallis and Emili Losier, baritone Brett Polegato, harpist Valérie Miilot, harpsichordist Ilya Poletaev, Gryphon Trio, Quatuor Danel, and The Fretless squeezed onto the stage at Dominion-Chalmers to celebrate Chamberfest s 25th birthday with a special composition by Ottawa composer Kelly-Marie Murphy. Clarinetist James Campbell and pianist Hinrich Alpers performed together at the National Gallery of Canada, with paintings from the Gallery s Impressionism exhibit projected on the screen behind them. Acclaimed mezzosoprano Krisztina Szabó performed Pierre Boulez s "Le Marteau Sans Maître" with the University of Toronto Contemporary Music Ensemble at one of three New Music Now concerts. 6 CONCERT SERIES October 2017 April 2018 Since its inception in the mid 2000s, the Chamberfest Concert Series has provided our organization with additional opportunities to enrich Ottawa s arts and culture scene throughout the year, bringing audiences together to experience artistic excellence. This development would not have been possible without the continued support of our donors. You support allowed us to present six incredible concerts and two additional special events during Concert Series. 7 CEE: COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND EDUCATION For too many in our national s capital, experiences with live music and music-making remain out of reach.

CEE programs allow our organization and the artists we work with new opportunities to engage communities through music and the arts, and help develop the careers of emerging artists.

7 7 CEE: COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND EDUCATION For too many in our national s capital, experiences with live music and music-making remain out of reach. With your support, we are working to change this through our eleven Community Engagement and Education (CEE) programs. CEE programs allow our organization and the artists we work with new opportunities to engage communities through music and the arts, and help develop the careers of emerging artists. Thanks to your support, we are developing the audience and artists of the future. Listen Up! Year-long program immersing elementary school students in the creative process guided by professional artists, culminating in a final showcase concert Xenia Concerts Free concerts for families with children on the autism spectrum and their caregivers A student recites six words that describe herself at the Listen Up! finale in May School Concerts Educational and interactive performances for elementary and high school students Bring the Kids! Free, daytime concerts for children and their families at City Hall Career Development Residency Annual residency for emerging ensembles; participants receive performance opportunities and mentorship throughout the year Violinist Liana Gourdjia of Ensemble Variances performs Ravel s Tzigane at a School Concert in November 2017 for 750 students from schools across Ottawa.

No matter the size of your donation, you are contributing to a larger movement that sustains and enables Chamberfest programming to continuously grow its impact in the National Capital Region. 11 11 A LOOK AHEAD Our 25 th anniversary continues with the Concert Series, which features 10 concerts and one special event in one of our largest Series yet. Angela Hewitt, the New Orford String Quartet, Vienna Boys Choir, and Mischa Maisky are among the artists and ensembles that we are able to bring to the National Capital Region with your support. Thank to the generosity of donors like you, our Community Engagement and Education (CEE) programs continue to see significant development, and will each contribute greatly to Chamberfest s ability to change lives through music throughout the season. The 2019 summer festival, which culminates our 25 th anniversary celebrations, will be take place July 25 to August 8. Programming is well underway and details will be announced soon!
