1 Cork Orchestral Society 70 th Season Programme Spring / Summer
2 Your City, Your Music, Your Provider Accessible quality for everyone... A warm welcome to the second half of our 70 th season. Over the coming the months we have a real treasure trove of solo recitals, chamber and orchestral music. The Irish Chamber Orchestra s first-ever residency this season has been attracting large audiences and with very good reason, bringing top quality music and very exciting soloists to Cork - superstar cellist Steven Isserlis performance with them in February is sure to be a highlight. The RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra will visit in March with stunning soloist Alina Pogostkina, playing the Bruch s sumptuous violin concerto. We are spoilt for choice of chamber music this season. The RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet will perform in January and February with two very contrasting programmes. Ioana Petcu-Colan will return to her home town with Ensemble Avalon in February and in April the hugely innovative Smith Quartet will be joined by saxophonist Gerard McChrystal for a carefully chosen programme of contemporary favourites. At the heart of the season will be the Easter Festival West Meets East, featuring two young and dynamic quartets, Ireland s all-female Callino Quartet and Singapore s all-male T ang Quartet it promises to be electric! Soloists this season include John Williams, whose name is synonymous with guitar music across the globe (early booking strongly advised!) and the deeply musical Bulgarian pianist Vesselin Stanev who performs in March. We are happy to launch a new website at where you can keep updated on our programme and to announce an innovative promotion with Offquay Bistro now there IS such a thing as a free lunch (and free music!). Every five concerts you attend entitles you to a Bistro voucher and every ten Bistro experiences entitles you to attend a concert with Dinner before hand. (Terms and conditions apply) Bon appétit! 1
