2 New Languages French Beginners Middle Primary - Lower Secondary 6 x 6 minutes Thursdays 10.15am Bistro Escargot Jasmine and Daniel become lost on a school trip with their French class. They happen upon a bistro where a zany chef and an impatient waitress treat them to an experience they won t forget... Episode 1 Thursday 8 February Daniel and Jasmine are two students on a class trip to a French speaking city. They become lost and stumble upon Bistro Escargot. Common greetings and introductions in French Episode 2 Thursday 15 February Daniel, Jasmine and Chef Escargot continue their conversation in the bistro. They discuss the weather, seasons and how they travelled with their class on this trip. Common weather expressions, seasons and methods of transportation Episode 3 Thursday 22 February Daniel and Jasmine have difficulty understanding the menu and food choices in French. Common foods on a French menu, how to place an order and polite expressions. Episode 4 Thursday 1 March Daniel and Jasmine deal with some problems after their meals are served. Expressions that express need, vocabulary for eating utensils and dessert items Episode 5 Thursday 8 March Daniel and Jasmine realise they have no money to pay the bill. In order to settle the tab they must work in the bistro. Paying a bill, making excuses, doing chores and types of music. 3 New Music Middle - Upper Secondary 8 x 30 minutes Friday 10.35am Fall In Love With Music Teaching listening skills that will help viewers understand, enjoy and better connect with all of the music in their lives. 9 Feb-Our Musical Focus Maestro Maull jumps right into creating an aha around listening versus hearing and the process of noticing detail in music using the third movement of Bela Bartok's Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta as the vehicle 16 Feb-Why Aren't We Listening? This episode provides an opportunity for some focussed guided listening in the first movement of Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4 "Italian", as well as pieces from Beethoven and Bartok 23 Feb- Is This Music? Viewers are asked to consider what the most basic ingredients of music are. Features excerpts from Gregorian Chant, Mozart, Rachmaninoff and Bartok 2 Mar- The Elements of Music Viewers are presented with a definitive list of musical elements on which a perceptive listener can focus as music is performed 9 Mar- How Listening Affects Us Why do we feel so emotionally affected by certain moments in a musical composition... to the point of getting goose bumps or even to the point of tears? 16 Mar- Paragraphs Without Words Listeners are encouraged to grasp larger chunks or "paragraphs" of musical information. 23 Mar- Leave it To Beethoven Concepts learned in previous episodes are applied to Movement 4 of Beethoven's String Quartet Opus 18, No 3 in D Major. The exposition of this sonata form movement is explored in detail. 6 Apr- Putting it All Together Beethoven's darker side is contrasted with his sense of humour in the development of Movement 4 of his String Quartet Opus 18, No.3.
