3 Software for IWB The following software applications were designed with interactive whiteboards in mind (but they also work just as well without an IWB) $$ = paid program = free The Music Interactive Link: The Music Interactive site has a range of fantastic downloadable games suitable for primary and middle school students (older students may enjoy them too). You ll need to sign up to their forum in order to get access to the download links. Some of their many games (more on the website): Staff Wars 1 Staff Wars 2 Jama Mambo (rhythm dictation for young students) Rhythm dictation (older students) Drawn to Keys Groovy Music $$ Link: Suite of 3 programs: Groovy Shapes Groovy Jungle Groovy City The Explore section contains progressive music theory/literacy lessons. The Create section allows students to create compositions and arrangements using musical shapes. You can customise the content by creating your own shapes. There are also included lesson plans. 3
4 Jellybeans #3 $$ Link: Class ensemble playing using the IWB Flashing notes show students where they re up to while playing Full reporting system included which is state- specific (Australia) Series of videos showing you how to perform a range of percussion instruments The Interactive Music Room (Bushfire Press) $$ Link: Lots of ready- made resources (saves you creating them yourself in the IWB software) for music literacy and performance Created using Easiteach software compatible with all types of IWBs Book 1 and Book 2 available O- Generator World Music $$ Link: music.tv/ Learn To Compose: uses rock, pop and dance styles to explore fundamentals of music and composition World Music: explores Latin and African music. Includes performance element and composition element Good for independent and whole- class learning Uses a unique circular interface Aimed at middle school students (10 17 year olds) Other Software to Try Any program you currently use! I ve used Sibelius, MuseScore, Acid Music Studio, Mixcraft, GarageBand, Powerpoint, Keynote, Word, Excel and many more. They all work on IWBs, but they feel quite different to when you use them with a regular mouse and keyboard. It s best to test out the program ahead of class time to get used to any quirks. 4
5 Interactive Websites & Online Games Theta Music Trainer & $$ Link: Some good quality, innovative games available on this site. Most of the lower levels of each game are free and you can pay a subscription to access higher levels. The site also keeps track of your progress and suggests areas for improvement! Parrot Phrases (melodic dictation) Dango Brothers (tuning) Chord Spells (spelling chords) Chord Locks (type, position, number) Channel Scramble Speed Pitch (higher/lower/same) Plus more! Smartboardmusic & $$ Link: Ear- training games designed for use on an IWB but works with a regular data projector too We looked at Ducks to Water and the Robinator Many more to try! Tone Matrix Link: michelle.com/tonematrix 5
6 inudge Link: Roc Link: creator Ball droppings Link: Incredibox Link: Virtual piano Link: 2/music/piano/ 6
