1 Lavers Hill K-12 College Phone : Fax : lavers.hill.p12@edumail.vic.gov.au COLLEGE NEWSLETTER EDUCATION WEEK 2018 ACTIVITY DAY Celebrating the Arts WEDNESDAY 23rd MAY `We enable curious minds to excel in a On Wednesday we celebrated Education Week in periods 1-4 with a variety of exciting multi-age activities designed around this years theme- Celebrating the Arts. Students participated in Indonesian Gamelan music and learnt how to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. There was a Family Tv Game show asking questions all about the ARTS which was won by Team Golden Goose. A maths color by number painting masterpiece was created in the art room and we all learnt how to make a Pom Pom which will be made into a class rug. Students dressed up as their favourite artist on the day which included a magician, artist, roadie, back dancers and not one but two Wally s! Famous musicians including Delta and PINK took time out of their busy schedules and Slash from Guns and Roses made an impressive entry. Movies stars who shone on the red carpet included the Wicked Witch from the West - Wizard of Oz, Agent J - Men in Black, Cruella Da Ville -101 Dalmatians and of course the leading stars Elsa and Ana from Frozen. We all enjoyed a BBQ lunch which was kindly organised by Missy and Marni thank you! We raised just over $150 which will go towards this years school production of Aladdin Jr. What a great day the primary students had celebrating the Arts together. 3 At kinder our teddy bears are a very important part of our lives they keep us warm when we are cold, they make us happy when we are sad and they re great listeners! For these reasons we decided to celebrate our Bear Bears and throw them a picnic! Together we cooked and prepared cupcakes and invited families to come along and celebrate with us! It was a lovely afternoon.

4 How to find new music you ll actually like If you find a site whose taste matches yours, great! If not, you can still use these just to see what s out this week. 1. Spotify Application Okay, say you re wanting to find a new artist. Spotify is probably your best bet. If you like a particular genre, there are loads of playlists (either created by Spotify or users) of a particular genre or just a mix. There is also a New Releases section if you re looking into listen to different music or music you re already familiar with. Another way to do this is either search your favourite musician and look in the Related Artists section. If you, say, listen to your favourite album and go back to the Homepage of the Application, it will show numerous albums Similar to the one you just listened to. Spotify has an amazing recommendation system. 2. Last.fm I really, really recommend last.fm for music lovers. It s an amazing site that charts your plays, allows you to scrobble music (a.k.a. play; scrobble means: scrobble. a.k.a. scrobbling. Part of the appeal of Web 2.0 is to find other people who share similar interests, herin lies the meaning of "scrobbling." To "scrobble" a song means that when you listen to it, the name of the song is sent to a Web site (for example, Last.fm) and added to your music profile.. You can connect it to your Spotify or install the app on the App Store/ Play Store. Okay, anyway, it has a great recommendation system that I use quite often. The way I find new music on this site is I either go to the Neighbours section on my profile, and it will display numerous music users with the same music taste as yours. I then go through their top artists and albums and see what I can listen to and review. Or, I go to the home page, which showcases a lot of recommended albums/artists/songs of similar music in your library. 3. YouTube YouTube, quite obviously not always revolved around music, can sometimes give you recommendations of music similar to the genres/artists you listen to. They also create a My Mix playlist automatically once you ve listened to a few songs, which will include those songs and others you might be interested in. These are the platforms I use to find my music and experiment with new genres. I use all three of these on a daily basis, and I can proudly say my music taste has shaped and shifted a lot since I have. A piece written by Connor Swanson from our Turning Point Campus
