2 A few words about ( by) composer Stan Grill was raed in Bronx, studied at Bronx House School of Music, later graduated from Manhattan School of Music with undergrad graduate degrees in music ory. He studied piano with Robert Helps Leon Kushner composition with Ursula Mamlok Joseph Prostakoff. Major works include music for str orchestra various solo instruments, a cello concer, ten str quartets, a nonet for winds strs, numerous song cycles for mixed voices chamber ensemble. Performances have been produced by composer, as well as presented by Composers Guild of New Jersey, St. Paul s Church Festival of Arts, Leonia Chamber Players, New York Composers Circle, Norrn New Jersey Camerata, One World Symphony, Bronx Arts Ensemble, Tokyo based Duo + Ensemble, Polf Consort, Diderot Quartet Camerata Philadelphia. As see it, as much as we strive find reason purpose in our hav been born in th amaz, sterious aweinspir universe, that attempt largely futile. t however, best part of our nature that obliges us make attempt, though most we can hope for gain some small degree of underst of world around us,, more importantly, of ourselves. To achieve th, we each approach problem in our own way, uniquely shaped by our cultural background, innate talents abilities, education so on. For those whom world seems express itself most clearly beautifully through sound, music voice that speaks us through which we, in turn, best express ourselves. Now, can write notes that will make pretty music because ve been trained do so but best of music has arrived, rar inexplicably, as part of a personal effort underst world self. t, in a way, an act of translation. The particular musical language which speak,, of course, a product of conservary train personal musical tastes, but hopefully, outcome, imperfect a translation as it may be, will convey ors someth of its original intent. Stan's music melodic, modal, contrapuntal, characterized by extended, interweav lines. H musical influences span centuries, include Machaut, Josquin, Palestrina, Monteverdi, Lassus, Britten, ves, Vaughn Williams Shostakovich. Two main mes permeate many of pieces music intended influence minds hearts of those who hear it in such a way as encourage thoughts about possibility of world peace music composed in an attempt translate someth about nature of physical world.
