2 WELCOME MESSAGE 2017 s double-digit growth of the U.S. recorded music market, an Independent market share of 37.32% (according to Billboard), and the expansion of global markets due to streaming, add up to some solid reasons for optimism for independent labels. presented by in partnership with featured partners trade table partners For the first time in many years, Congress is moving on music copyright legislation with the Music Modernization Act (MMA). The MMA gained massive impetus with the 415/0 unanimous House vote and must now pass the Senate. We face challenges to the CLASSICS act (which guarantees royalties for pre-72 recordings) in the Senate but our unprecedented coalition of independents, majors, publishers, tech companies, PROs, artists, songwriters, and musicians stands strong. Delaying progress on a terrestrial right in the interest of success for the other four components of the MMA was agonizing but we continue to negotiate with the broadcasters for a consensus solution that can result in legislation. We will not rest until all uses of recorded music are compensated fairly. A2IM stands for equality of opportunity and we are proud to say that this year s conference is diverse and gender balanced. A2IM Indie Week was one of only two U.S. conference/festivals to sign the PRS/Keychange commitment to achieve gender balance by Combining our commitments to equitable representation, makes both organizations stronger and we are thrilled to have achieved the PRS/Keychange objective four years ahead of schedule; not a moment too early. 3 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Tamara Hrivnak, Head of Music Business Development & Partnerships, Facebook Tamara joined Facebook in 2017 to lead music business strategy and business development. Previously, she was responsible for YouTube & Google Play s America's music partnerships. Her tenure at Google included global leadership of Google Play s strategic partnerships with telcos, OEMs and retailers for all digital content. Before joining Google, Tamara was Vice President of Digital Strategy & Business Affairs for Warner/Chappell Music Publishing and, prior to that, served as Associate Counsel, Digital Legal Affairs for Warner Music Group, where she was responsible for digital distribu on deals, including with Google, Apple, Microso, carriers, game publishers, app developers and start-ups.
