Operation The allows students to work in groups of six while an instructor can view the students material or send content to them. Each student group consists of a collaboration table called a Student Pod that includes a large screen display, touchscreen controller, and presentation switcher supporting both HDMI and VGA connections. A display is located at one end of this table where the class can view one of the students at the table or see content from an instructor. The instructor s operation of the Collaboration Stations uses an ipad to create an intuitive user interface. Unlike most other ipad applications which require the ipad to go to sleep after a set amount of time, the TEKVOX ipad application is controlled by the motion sensor in the room. This allows the ipad to stay active all of the time, allowing for a quick and easy user setup. When motion is no longer detected, the ipad will go to a black screen and turn down the backlight. Once the ipad detects motion, it will wake up and go to its Logo screen or to the Main screen if the system is on. Students can collaborate on their own and don t require the instructor to turn on the system. This is accomplished by using the simple touchscreen on the Student Pod. To turn on the display, all a student needs to do is select their colored cable on the touchscreen. After a student pod is powered on, it will operate for one hour unless a student presses a button or the instructor turns on the system. Student Touchscreen
Instructor Touchscreen Touching the Logo screen displays the System On popup. Press Yes to turn the system on. This initializes the system and turns on all s. When the system is powered on, the instructor will push PC content to the video projector and student pods. To allow the students to view their own laptop connections, deselect the Send to Students button on the bottom right of the screen. When the System is on, the ipad displays its Main screen. The ipad screens are designed for both landscape and portrait view. The Main screen has three main areas: Source Selection (left) Operational Controls (right) Device Controls (center)
Source Selection The Source selection buttons are located on the left and can be scrolled up or down by sliding your finger on the screen in the direction you want to scroll to show more buttons. These buttons allow for selecting a source to display and control. Selecting any source selection button except for the Students button will display the selected source on in the video projector. If the Send to Students button is on, then the selected source is also sent to the student monitors. Pressing the None button mutes all of the displays and the audio. The DVD, VCR, and Apple TV have control pages allowing for transport control of these devices.
Students When the Students button is selected, the student pods are first placed in loopback by disabling the Send To Students button and allowing the students to see themselves. The instructor can then view each student pod on the podium display before sending to the video projector and to the rest of students, by selecting a Student Pod button. As long as the Send To Students button is on, selecting other student pods sends the selected student pod to the other students. Note: It is not possible for the instructor to send any selected source to the students and simultaneously view the student pods. The student pods can be powered on an off by the On button next to the Student Pod button. When this button is on, the student pod display is on.
Operational Controls These controls are located on the right and allow for system operation. When selected, a popup window for these controls will be displayed for 60 seconds. To close the pop-up, touch the name of it. They include: System Off Help Pointmaker Volume Send To Students System Off Pressing System Off displays the System Off popup, allowing for confirmation before shutting down the system. Help This button gives the user information on whom to contact or to send an to the Help Desk. Selecting allows for more advanced control options of the display. From here, the user can power on and off and mute the Main display.
Pointmaker The Pointmaker is an annotation device that allows for the instructor to draw over any selected image. When selected, the instructor has control over the drawing and operational featrues of the Pointmaker. Volume Pressing the Volume button displays the Volume pop-up and allows for control of Program audio (PC, Laptop, DVD and VCR). There is also a Speech volume for control of the microphone level. Changing the volume level can be done by pressing the up and down arrows or by draging the volume bar.
System Design The System consist of six Student Pods, instructor s podium, and one 8x8 HDBaseT Matrix. Main control of the system is provided by an ipad and mini controller with TEK 2s at all of the displays. The Student Pods and instructor s podium are connected via a Cat5e cable to an 8x8 HDBaseT Matrix Switcher located in a ceiling box.
