3 Modernized Assembly (M-DSA) Description M-DSA is the next sensor modernization of the M-TADS Legacy DSA is 30+ years old and was not modernized with Arrowhead upgrade (2005), obsolescence now beginning to impact reliability (operations & support cost driver) M-DSA includes: Modernized Laser Range Finder/Designator High Resolution Near Infrared (NIR) & Color TV Sensor, Tactical & Eye-Safe Laser, Laser Pointer Marker, Laser Spot Tracker, Inertial Measurement Unit & Modernized Day Sensor Structure Assembly Color TADS Electronic Display and Control includes 5 x x 1280 color display, optimized for FLIR and Digital Color Imagery, sunlight readable and NVIS A/B compatible Capability/Improvements Adds color capability to the cockpit Better image resolution Laser Pointer Marker on gimbal (for better air-to-air and airto-ground coordination) Matches M-NSA FLIR medium & narrow FOV (supports blending) IMU provides better stability (for longer range performance) Added eye-safe lasing capability (for training & urban environments) Allows for two-level maintenance (repair at the flight line) Requirements Escalating obsolescence issues make Legacy DSA unsupportable Combat field data identified Legacy DSA as weak link U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Statement of Continuing Need validated by Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations in March 2007 Schedule and Milestones Phase 1 (Laser & Electronics) Development contract awarded Sept 2008 Critical Design Review completed April 2009 Qualification & Flight Test completed June 2011 Engineering Change Proposal completed Aug 2011 Production contracted Dec 2011 First Production kit delivery May 2013, on contract for >600 kits Phase 2 (Electro-Optical Upgrade) Development contract awarded Sept 2010 Critical Design Review completed Sept 2011 Qualification started Oct 2013 Flight test planned Nov/Dec 2013 Engineering Change Proposal planned Aug 2014 Production contract award planned Sept 2014 LOCKHEED CLEARED MARTIN FOR PROPRIETARY PUBLIC RELEASE INFORMATION A
