2 What are we going to discuss Utilization of mobile laser & acoustic imaging to expand your project potential You do not have to own these tools just be aware of them and how they can impact your project potential There are several companies that specialize in this technology. You run the job, do your part and subcontract the specialty 3 We have Discussed the Leica Scan Station The mobile laser and acoustic imaging applies similar technology & can use some of the same software 4 2

3 The Example I will be using is the Dynascan Mobile Laser The entire system is in one pod so the majority of calibration points remain constant. Vehicle mount alignment is the only calibration required for each deployment 5 Vessel Mounted 6 3

4 Mobile Scanning In this example the mobile scanner is mounted on a boat. The same motion compensation works on both land and waterways. There are some specific considerations for each but generally this is true 7 The next 2 slides show a mapping quality scan of Barnegat light and the surrounding jetty This type of scan taken from a boat results in accuracies around 0.2 when the object is within 500 of the laser depending upon grazing angle Used for general settlement and rock motion studies For more detailed studies a terrestrial scanner would be used the problem area would be around the waterline 8 4

6 1/16/2013 The next slide shows a combination of mobile laser and acoustic imaging The acoustic imaging shown in this next slide was obtained using a Reson 7125 Multibeam system. This is a top end multibeam system costing around 200k. This is used by companies and agencies doing this work every day There are less expensive alternatives for companies wishing to explore acoustic imaging options. 12 Zooming In Reveals Critical Details Zooming in on specific areas or targets can reveal abnormalities. These details were captured in the original scans of the structure. 2.8 m (9.19 ft.) Area of Interest Areas of interest can be detected and analyzed further. Since the data is fully rotational the area of interest can be viewed from almost any angle to make an assessment and determine next steps BlueView Technologies, Inc. A close look at the area of interest revealed possible damage or a construction abnormality at the corner of the footing that is 1.18 ft. deep and 5.68 ft. tall. The abnormality can be viewed from several angles to determine possible cause and impact on the structure.
