3 Introduction The Manitoba government has introduced an updated version of the bison logo. The new visual identity builds on the current equity in the bison symbol, modernizes the logo and provides a connection to the Manitoba Spirited Energy brand. Logo Components and Use The Manitoba government logo consists of two components the Manitoba wordmark and bison symbol. The following guidelines apply to the use of the logo: The Manitoba wordmark and bison must always appear together as shown at the bottom of this page and the positioning of the two components should never be altered. The wordmark and bison should never be separated and unlike the previous visual identity, should never be stacked on top of each other. The Manitoba logo should appear on all public information material funded by the Manitoba government. This applies to items such as posters, brochures, Internet, displays, newsletters, TV, video, outdoor, etc. When it appears on publications, the logo should be placed on the outside cover (front is preferable). The logo should always be positioned in the lower right corner unless it is being placed on letterhead, forms, displays or the Internet. On letterhead it should be placed in the upper left corner and on forms, displays and Internet pages it should appear in the upper right corner. Unless corporately approved, no other Manitoba government program logos should appear on public information material targeted at a Manitoba audience. When appearing with other logos (federal, private business, etc.), it is preferable that the Manitoba logo be positioned in the lower right corner. Communications Services Manitoba should always be contacted when the Manitoba logo is being used. Manitoba Wordmark Bison Symbol Logo The Province of Manitoba Visual Identity Guidelines 2

4 Colours The Manitoba logo s corporate colours are green and black. The green is a different Pantone colour than the green used on the Manitoba government s previous logo. In order to maintain colour consistency, the PANTONE Matching System (PMS) is to be used whenever the two-colour version of the logo is being applied. PMS 362 Coated and Uncoated CMYK C 78, M 2, Y 98, K 9 RGB R 63, G 158, B 53 Web 3F9C35 Pantone Black On Light Backgrounds On a white or light coloured background, the Manitoba logo should appear with the Manitoba wordmark in green and the bison symbol in black. Alternatively, the logo may appear entirely in black but wherever possible, the green and black version is preferred. On Dark Backgrounds On a black or sufficiently dark coloured background, the Manitoba logo should appear reversed out in white. PANTONE is a registered trademark of PANTONE, Inc. Protected Space Wherever possible, the protected space illustrated below is the minimum space that should separate the logo from headlines, text and imagery or from the outside edge of the document. 5 Incorrect Logo Use The Manitoba wordmark and bison symbol are not to be separated, rotated, stacked or laid out in any manner other than the manner provided on page two of these guidelines. The logo must always be used correctly to ensure its visual impact and integrity is not compromised. The examples below illustrate some of the ways the logo should not be used. Do not stack the logo. Do not separate the logo. Do not alter the proportions of the Manitoba wordmark or the bison symbol. Do not change the Manitoba wordmark font. Do not skew, italicized or distort any part of the logo. Do not change the logo s designated colours. Do not modify the logo with special tints, graduations, textures or effects. Do not rotate the logo. Do not place the logo on complex background or a busy photo with insufficient contrast. The Province of Manitoba Visual Identity Guidelines 4

6 Department Identity All public information material should carry the logo without individual departmental identity. Departmental identity should only be used on administrative material such as forms, letterhead and business cards. In cases where the departmental identity is used, it should appear as shown below with the department name set in the font Avenir Heavy. When displayed with the logo, the department name should not contain an acronym, abbreviation or ampersand (&). Aboriginal and Northern Affairs Affaires autochtones et du Nord Aboriginal and Northern Affairs Affaires autochtones et du Nord Sponsorship and Funding Acknowledgments When the government is sponsoring or funding a project or event, the Manitoba logo should be used. The logo should appear only once on sponsoring documents regardless of the number of departments involved in the sponsorship. Wherever possible, the Manitoba logo should be positioned in the lower right corner. However, mutual agreement with other organizations involved in the project or event should be reached when logo positioning and prominence is being determined. Partnerships Federal/Provincial When the logo is used in federal/provincial agreements, it should always be placed to the right of the Canada logo. Equal prominence must be shared between the two logos. Federal/Provincial/Municipal When the Manitoba logo is used in federal/provincial/municipal agreements, it should always be placed to the right of the Canada logo and to the left of the municipal logo. Project Signs Signs produced to promote Manitoba government projects should feature the following elements and design: the Manitoba logo on the bottom right the Spirited Energy logo on the bottom left the name of the project or program the minister s name the department name the provincial website address the Manitoba Government Inquiry phone number Manitoba Location Signs Location signs for departmental offices should feature the following elements and design: the Manitoba logo the department name the department the division and branch name if desired Office location signs should not feature the minister s name, the provincial website or the Manitoba Government Inquiry phone number. 8 Vehicles and Equipment The vehicle and equipment guidelines for the Manitoba logo are applicable to cars, trucks, heavy equipment and, where possible, aircraft and watercraft. All Manitoba government vehicles should display the government logo in the following manner: The identification decals that contain the logo should be located in the centre of the front door panels on both sides of the vehicle. If it is not possible to place the logo in this location, it should still be prominently displayed on both sides of the vehicle. Numbering codes required on vehicles should not be displayed in a manner that detracts from the appearance of the logo. When it is being used on vehicles and equipment, the logo should always appear in the green and black format. It is preferred that departmental identities not appear on vehicles. However, if departments use their identity, it should be displayed as indicated below using the font that is provided in the department identity section of these guidelines. Only department names are to appear with the logo. Division and branch names are not to be used on vehicles and equipment. Conservation The Province of Manitoba Visual Identity Guidelines 7

9 Legal Information The artwork, symbols and typographical content of the Manitoba government logo constitute valuable property rights of the province of Manitoba. Any unauthorized duplication, by any means, in whole or in part shall be considered an infringement of Crown copyright.
