This meeting allowed us to present the Center s products and services. It was also a good opportunity to exchange with new library executives and municipal representatives. At the same time, we used this occasion to assure them of our collaboration in the good functioning of their public library. The next welcome party for new members will be held after the municipal elections in November We would like to welcome all the new persons in charge of libraries and municipal representatives to our network. Did you organize an animation activity in your library this month? Now, is the time to try it! Animation attracts new members and enriches the cultural life of your library. Consult your Guide d animation culturelle en bibliothèque for ideas! The CRSBP offers you its support in the field of animation. It may be for the organization, the financing or the contact with the people presenting the activity. Don t forget the reading clubs, the story hours and thematic boxes available for free at the CRSBP! Come enrich yourself: enroll in a training session! The library staff competence influence directly the quality of service offered by the library. The CRSBP offers a vast range of trainings. These are presented in the Programme de formation Go take a look!

2 Page 2 Extranet Extranet is more than a management tool; it s a communication link between the CRSBP and the Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais. With this tool, you have the chance to always have, at your disposal, different internal documents (policies, calendars, guides, forms) which can help you in your daily work. Take the time to read the communiqué we send you. They will inform you of future events, activities, changes and other important matters. They can also serve as reminders. Remember that starting January 2005, you will have to enter loans and financial statistics directly in the Extranet. Please, take two minutes to verify that the library address, contact and schedule information is correct. If you find errors, please make the appropriate changes. Sectorial meetings Between October 20 and October 28, 2004, five(5) sectorial meetings were held throughout the Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais territory. These meetings rendered possible the presentation of the Manuel de l administrateur local des technologies, the library quality norms document and the new posters destined to sensibilize users to the problem of lost or damage books. 52 persons, who came from 31 different libraries, were present at these meetings. We thank all of you for your participation! Our special thanks to hostess libraries for their warm welcome! ISO 52 persons, who came from 31 different libraries, were present at these meetings We often talked about our desire to constantly improve the quality of our services with the ISO certification, well, it s done! The Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais staff members passed, with a perfect score, the external audits and we are now certified ISO 9001: 2000.

Recommenced for teachers and activity leaders. A project involving retired volunteers that promote, to children, the pleasures of reading. To be discovered! Cartoon contest Here are the winners of the cartoon contest organized in collaboration with the Salon du livre de l Outaouais and le Rendez-vous international de la bande dessinée de Gatineau: 1 st prize : Caroline Phillion-Mallette, of Papineauville 2 nd prize : Valérie B. Congratulation to all participants and see you next year! The À la découverte du nouveau Portail Quiz! Here are the winners of the November quiz that was held after the Portal and Extranet trainings. 4 Page 4 Library annual report February is the perfect month for the preparation of the library annual report. What are the benefits of this exercise? - It paints a good picture of the library actual situation. - It presents the statistics of the year that just ended. - It informs and sensitises municipal representatives to the community needs and to the importance of library services. - It also allows the library team to evaluate its efforts, to motivate its members and to improve planning. If you want an example of an annual report, look in the Trousse-BIBLIO, annex 3-C. Don t forget to ship a copy of your annual report to the CRSBP. As the wheel turns It s with sadness that we learned about the loss of Mme Paulette Sirois, in charge of the Sainte- Thérèse-de-la-Gatineau library for 23 years. We would like to offer our sincere condolences to her family. Mme Josée Riel has been nominated as the new person in charge of the library. We welcome her in the network! Computer tips For an easy WEB surfing, we recommend that you remove, once a month, all temporary files and cookies from Internet Explorer from the libraries computers. How to do it? In Explorer, click on the Tools menu, and on Internet Options. In the General tab, click on remove the cookies, and then on remove files. For more details, look in your Manuel de l administrateur local des technologies, page 125.

5 Page 5 The CRSBP will close during the Holidays The CRSBP offices will be closed from December 23, 2004 to January 4, We will be back January 5, 2005! We would like to take the occasion to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year filled with joy and beautiful moments! Local initiatives In the context of the Book Mania reading club, and under this year Dogs at Work theme, Low and Alleyn-et-Cawood libraries received the visit of Julianne Labrèche and her dog Paugan. She talked about the work they accomplish with aphasic people. During the summer, many other activities were held: bingo, craft activities, authors visits, etc... Kazabazua library celebrated the Halloween with the storyteller Ron Laflamme, craft workshops, a snack and disguised young readers! The library team is already thinking about the next activities: Financing will be done through the sale of Christmas bows! A great promotion initiative from the Fort-Coulonge library. Each resident received a makebelieve member card that could be exchange, at the library, for a real card. The shipment included a brochure explaining the library services. The library team organised, also recently, many animation activities: a visit from the author André Duhaime, workshops Les Débrouillards, viewing of the Pageant from 1953, etc. Gracefield library established a partnership with Mon journal for the publication, each week, of an article on subjects related to library matters: literary critics, animation activities, etc... Congratulations for all the activities! Don t forget to complete your reservation book for your activities and animation material for the year 2005! Postal mail Please remember that all mail, like letters, bills and cards or call numbers demands, must be folded and inserted in the first page of the book. You can also make cards and call numbers demands by or fax, it s a lot faster!
