Don t forget to pass round this Info-Bulles Newsletter to all members of the Library Committee Chief executive officer s note BIBLIO meeting A BIBLIO meeting was held last November first. It was replacing the sectorial meetings that usually took place in the fall, within the Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais territory. Some 35 people, from 21 different libraries, were present. During this information day, we presented the new online Simb@ catalog, the configuration and use of the personal identification number (PIN) for member libraries patrons and the free databases offered to all the network s patrons. We also distributed the new library management guide and a library services patron survey. Finally, during the meeting, members discussed the importance of a collection inventory and the need to sequence the network s novels series. A survey about these subjects will be sent to library coordinators who couldn t attend the meeting. L ABC de la BD contest: The Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais, in collaboration with the Salon du livre de l Outaouais and the Rendez-vous international de la bande dessinée de Gatineau, is proud to present the L ABC de la BD contest s winners. The contest was held from September 27th to October 31st The draw was performed at the CRSBPO on the 11 th of November Mr. Micky Rail of the Messines library won the first prize; a 650$ gift basket full of Tintin paraphernalia. Kevin Holmes of the Montcerf-Lytton library won the second prize; eleven (11) Petit Spirou comic books. Sandrine Proulx of the Sainte-Thérèse-de-la-Gatineau library was the third winner. She won three (3) Astérix comic books and both Astérix videos.

2 Page 2 The 2005 Reader of the year contest This year, we have launched a new contest named Reader of the year. Archambault bookstore has teamed up with the Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais to promote this contest, which aims to acknowledge libraries regular patrons. A random draw will determine an adult and a youth Reader of the year. Each one will win a 100$ gift certificate. Mailbags Please don t forget to return the mailbags during book rotations. Keep only five (5) bags at your library and send us the rest. Web page update Take advantage of the end of the year to update your library s portal. It should only take minutes to review the headings and make sure that the information listed is correct. Don t forget to remove the news releases that are no longer pertinent! Think activity hosting! Hosting activities is a great way to make your library a place where people can enjoy themselves, where they come to learn, to get informed, and to exchange with others in a fun and dynamic way. We invite you to take a look at our Guide d animation culturelle, available on the Extranet. This guide will present all the material available at the CRSBP and will propose great suggestions for activities. The CRSBP offers its support if you need help with the hosting or the financing of activities. It can also help you get in contact with organizers. Museum of Nature Due to a partnership with the Canadian Museum of Nature, all CRSBPO affiliated library users can, since November 7, visit the Museum (at no cost) by borrowing the Nature card. This card gives all users who have a library card, a free pass to the Museum for a family of five (max 3 adults). This card can be borrowed for two (2) weeks. Have a good time!

3 Page 3 Le Libraire Journal The Journal Le Libraire invites you to advertise your activities at no cost. You must send the information to Mathieu Simard s address. He can put it up on the Web site www. lelibraire.org and in the paper version (if applicable), which is published 6 times a year.. Don t hesitate! Take advantage of this generous offer and increase the visibility of your library activities! She will leave her post as person in charge of the Farm-Point library in December We take the opportunity to wish her the best in her new endeavor. The CRSBPO wants to announce the nomination of Mr. Pierre Carrière, the new coordinator of the Bouchette library. We welcome him in the BIBLIO-team. Bags for sale You can buy wonderful reusable and recyclable red bags (Les bibliothèques responsables et engagées) for only 2,00$ each plus taxes. A great way for libraries to help preserve the environment! Local initiative Last October, some libraries received the visit of youth authors like Mrs. Françoise Lepage, Mrs. Andrée Poulin, Mrs. Andée-Anne Gratton and Mrs. Louise Tondreau Levert. Once again, this year, these visits were very much appreciated. Holidays: CRSBP s offices are closed During the Christmas holidays, the CRSBP s offices will be closed from December 23, 2005 to January 6, We will be back on the 9 th of January We take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2006!

4 Page 4 Cataloguing Please remember that the barcode reading of each sheet is done horizontally, from left to right. It will be easier for us to create your call numbers and cards if the numbers are in the right order. Please note that when your library places and order, a series of barcodes is attributed to you. This series does not follow the one that you have at your library. We would like to congratulate you! We are receiving several cataloguing forms at the CRSBP via the Extranet. Do not forget to fill all the spaces. It speeds up our work! When you add books in your local collection, remember to respect the call number procedure. If the call number starts with a letter, add (+) in front. You must leave a space after the call number and add your library s symbol The library Extranet Visit it frequently! This tool is there for you! You can find a lot of documents useful for the daily management of your library (technical guides, activity hosting and training programs, CRSBP s policies, etc.). You can also find important news about the network via the News releases section. Further more, it is from the Extranet that you can modify and update your library Web page. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any question on how to use it! in capital letter. If the call number has apostrophes ( ), you must remove the one in front of the call number and add one at the end, before your library s symbol. Please note that the ( ) counts for a space (or you can also remove all apostrophes and replace them with spaces). Example of a correct call number: +R884hpe FPO, +RJ B7511fdc LUS, B7536n CAN Interlibrary loans of DVDs from the regional collection As you probably know, DVDs are now loaned through interlibrary loan systeme. We are hoping that you will try to promote this new service to your patrons. Don t forget that only the DVDs from the CRSBP s regional collection can be loaned. To consult the list of available titles in MultiLIS, search with the call number: enter DVD to view the list of DVDs available in the local and regional collections. New!! English story kits «Literacy bags» The CRSBP acquired 5 English story kits. Each kit is composed of two books, a puppet and activity materials. They can be loaned up to a month. To make a reservation, contact the CRSBP.

5 Page 5 Vents d Ouest donations Les Éditions Vent d ouest has offered, once again, many books written by Outaouais authors. We have catalogued them in your local collection for free. We will send you the books during the book rotations or we will deliver them to your library (when we are in your vicinity). It would be a great idea to put up, in your library, a display of Outaouais authors in order to introduce them to your users. The Library Extranet Now, when you connect to Extranet, you will notice that there is a new icon. : «Profile name». Choosing a profile is mandatory. For now, only the library coordinator and general director profile is available. You will be notified when other profiles are created and available. Users cards Blue plastified users cards used for loans should not be reused (regardless of what the CRSBP told you before). After verification with MultiLIS, it is best to avoid doing it because some transactions can stay in the patron s record and create problems. BIBLIO trainings New releases status The CRSBP sets the new release status at two years. Therefore, when you do your book rotations, you may receive the latest new releases along with older new releases (two years max.). Compact disk case Remember! When you loan a CD, you must keep the original case and give the disk to the user in the plastic case. This way, there is less chance of losing the original case, which contains the picture and the lyrics. During the year, the CRSBP offers a wide range of trainings that are presented in the Programme de formation, which is available on the Extranet. These trainings will help you acquire new knowledge, exchange with your colleagues from other libraries and improve the service you provide to your users. Don t hesitate, register now!
