When the cover wears out, we toss it. All We retain book jackets on all hardbound books and add an additional plastic cover to each. 74 Q76a If yes to additional binding decisions at time of receipt Portland Community College Comments Pamphlet binding for printed music. Laminate EZ cover, commercial binding, folders, various options. in house or sent to bindery We do a lot of mending and repair, but that would happen at receipt only if something was abnormal envelopes for patterns, plans, i.e. extra material in house We do some support at time of receipt. For scores and other thin paper back items, we place the item in a pamphlet binder. Very occasionally we will have to have something spiral bound. This has happened probably twice in the last three years. Generally we don't work with any different bindings. purchase containers for materials in unusual configurations We use Kapco easycovers for paperbacks if we anticipate heavy use reinforce paperbacks w/tape on spine reinforce paperbacks w/tape, attach pockets for lose items, include errata or not, send to bind both in house and commercial bindery Treat in-house (pamphlet bind, etc.) or send to bindery in house Kapco covers are sometimes added to paperbacks in house; sprial binding is sometimes rebound (sent to an outsource bindery) We come up with an "in house" solution. We reinforce paperbacks not already bound, we may rebind stapled items. If book is destined for our Children's Literature collection, all dust jackets are laminated 71 Orbis Cascade Alliance AC&A Survey Report (Part 2)

76 Q77a If yes to unique processing needs for your print monographs: Please explain: Comments Hardcover processed differently than paperback/ items with disks require extra steps; some additional labeling required on Ref specific locations. Hardback with jacet are kept & laminated bookplates, laminating, pamphlet binding Covering book jackets until our current supply of covers run out. Special handling of historical items. We use colored overlays on top of the spine label for books in collections. For example; yellow overlays for reference, blue overlays for music library materials, orange overlays for Children and Young Adult etc. accompanying materials (e.g. CDs, CD-ROMS) are placed in separate containers with separate item records Overall, no. But many books for our Architecture and Allied Arts library require special care in processing because of the size or the presence of artistic content where labels/barcodes might be placed. Special Collections rare or "treat as rare" material has special processing needs (no barcodes or labels) standardized processing procedures within the workflow to meet library needs 7 Orbis Cascade Alliance AC&A Survey Report (Part 2)

Special Collections and archival materials are handled separately. Special Collections materials are accepted as is. We do not affix a spine label or stamp, etc. We include a flag with the spine label. Reference material receives a "For Reference - t to be taken from this room" sticker. Special bookplates are included in certain items. Reserve books receive a reserve slip for the semester. retain dust jackets for children's books; books in the monastery library have a card pocket & card so the monks can borrow them without having to use a computer We use a mylar cover for the book jacket for all children's and art books Rare books, archives, student theses Special Collections, children's literature Knight & branches: artists' books receive special housing; books with accompanying e- formats are processed differently depending on the location (some stay in the book, some are separated).
