3 BOTH IN THE ENGLISH AND ITALIAN PART: Ordine alfabetico In italiano cerca sempre i nomi e gli aggettivi al maschile singolare e i verbi all infinito. In inglese cerca sempre i nomi al singolare e i verbi alla forma base. Cercate: jumping, left, eaten, goes.

5 ATTENZIONE Molte parole riportano più di un significato. È importante quindi saper riconoscere qual è quello giusto; spesso ci può aiutare saper riconoscere a che parte del discorso appartiene la parola. Conoscere bene le abbreviazioni presenti. Eg. Match, miss, play. They won the match. I really can t match my socks! Miss Jameson was sick.- I always miss Jameson. The play was very good.- The kids are playing in the garden.

8 IDIOMS LE ESEMPLIFICAZIONI A volte ci sono espressioni che non sono di facile interpretazione. Per questo il dizionario mi dà esempi d uso della parola e mi mette in evidenza i modi di dire metaforici, i proverbi e le citazioni dotte e letterarie di un vocabolo. Non basta conoscere il significato della parola! uso figurato: metaforico, arricchisce e rende creativa e viva la comunicazione significato letterale Cerca il significato di: I can t help quarreling with my brother! 10 A volte abbiamo in mente una particolare espressione in italiano, ma ci rendiamo conto che non avrebbe senso tradurla letteralmente. In questo i dizionario ci è molto utile. Dobbiamo cercarla sotto la parola più importante dell espressione: Non vedo l ora di vederti! Ovviamente I can t see the hour to meet you è sbagliata

11 WHEN SHOULD I USE IT? As far as the English-Italian part is concerned: Don t look up every word you don t know. Try to understand the meaning using the context. If it is a main word in the sentence and you are still not sure of the meaning, then you can check it in the dictionary. Check the spelling and look up the words you are not sure of.

12 As far as the Italian English part is concerned: Try to think if you can use another word, or some other words to say what you have in mind. Otherwise leave the sentence incomplete and go on, don t lose time! When you have finished all the questions and if you still have some sentences to complete use the dictionary! Look up the most important word and look after the meanings where the exemplifications are.
