1 July 2018 Issue #300 President s Chatter This next meeting, on July 31st, will be the last meeting before the August 19th LHHAC car show at the Goshen Fairgrounds. As you know we are taking part in this 43rd Annual Car Show by putting on a 90th Anniversary of the Model A Ford Exhibit. Dave Habersang is working hard with coordinating this project. The LHHAC club members will be starting to set up on Wednesday evening, the 15th of August at 5 pm, for the car show. Our club members are welcome to come by and help or just check out the exhibit barn where the Model A's will be on display. Then on Saturday morning, the 18th, the Model A's and displays will need be set up. A volunteer list can be found in this month s newsletter, but anyone not on the list and who wants to volunteer, will be greatly appreciated. (Please contact Dave Habersang at if interested.) The displays and cars will need to be setup until late in the afternoon, the day of the show.! The Annual Club Picnic is still in its planning stages. Paul Dubreuil and I are organizing this year s picnic to be held in September,!possibly for Sunday the 9th. Also, a Roast Beef Run could be a good idea for the early part of October.! The Harwinton Public Library (80 Bentley Drive Harwinton, CT 06791) From Route 8- Take exit 42 onto Rt. 118 east toward Harwinton. Travel 2.5 miles on Rt. 118 to Bentley Drive. Take a right onto Bentley Drive, the Library is a half mile on the left. Editor s Note: If anyone has items for sale, just them to me and I will be glad to post them in the newsletter. 2 Minutes of Northwestern CT A s Meeting Tues., June 27, 2018 Torrington, CT (This meeting was held at Royal s Garage for the purpose of pin-stripping Don Bruno s Truck.) Meeting Called to Order at 7:30 pm by our President, Don Bruno. Guests: - John and Alan Grunder and Pinstripper Robert Church. Secretaries Report: Minutes of the May 2018 meeting were read and accepted. Treasurer s Report: Read and accepted. Membership: 23 members Cheers: None Club Apparel: Ed Covill demonstrated our Club Jacket with our Logo. Ed is presently undergoing a lung disorder. Old Business Horsepower meets Horse Power; was on June 10 th at Orleton Farm in Stockbridge, Ma. It was attended by Ed Covill and wife also Nick &Fran Nesci and Gunnar and Jan Gudmundson of West Stockbridge with their Packard Roadster. The Klingberg Car Show was Sat. June 16 th and attended by John Grunder and Nick Nesci. On June 23 rd our tour was to the CT Air & Space Museum in Stratford. Our 12 members Enjoyed seeing the replica of Gustav Whitehead s 1901 Airplane, a WWII Corsair In stages of restoration, helicopters, a huge P & W Fan Jet Engine and other things. Oct 21 - Jay Beverage s car collection in Essex. Technical: Guest Robert Church made preparations to Don Bruno s Tacoma truck readying it for pinstripping. A guide tape was first applied front to back on both sides to assure the positioning. Then the Paints were chosen; light blue stripe and next to it a gray stripe. By free-hand Robert put down Each color with a special brush. Out came a professional job. Meeting Adjourned at 8:10 pm followed by refreshments. 4 MAFFI Liaison Letter July 2018! As you can imagine, by now, arrangements are set for this year s Model A Day at The Gilmore (Saturday, September 15th).! This year we are pleased to announce six Model A seminars as part of the events planned.!much work has been involved in preparing material from our fellow Model A hobbyists.! Three of the seminars are focused on more technical aspects, including Model A Glass, Model A Wood and Model A Front End Alignment.! We also have seminars that address other areas of interest including Shopping on line for Era Fashions, Preparing Your Model A for Touring and tips and ideas regarding Buying and Selling a Model A.! Model A Day at our Model A Ford Museum at The Gilmore offers many opportunities to see a variety of unique and award winning Model A s and to learn more about the Model A through interaction with other hobbyists and through planned and organized seminars.! 5 Dolores Del Rio promotes the New Model A Ford María Dolores Asúnsolo y López Negrete de Martínez del Río, better known as Dolores del Río ( August 3, 1905 April 11, 1983), was a Mexican film actress. She was a star of Hollywood films during the silent era and in the Golden Age of Hollywood. She became an important actress in Mexican films later in her life. She was also considered one of the more important female figures of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema in the 1940s and 1950s. Del Río is remembered as one of the most beautiful faces of the cinema in her time. Her long and varied career spanned silent film, sound film, television, stage and radio.

8 Did you know... that 17, Model Aʼs were built in 1929? the last Model A built in the U.S. was a DeLuxe Roadster built at the Edgewater, N.J. plant in April of 1932? the last Model As built outside the U.S. were a group of 160 Standard Phaetons built in Santiago, Chile in 1934? the Model A was assembled in 32 plants across the U.S. and 19 other plants around the world? all the engines for the Model A were built in the Rouge plant except for England, which were cast at the Ford foundry in Cork, Ireland and assembled at the assembly plant in Manchester, England? These are just a few of the facts from Steve Pluckerʼs book The Ford Assembly Plants and Their Production of the Model A Ford Passenger Cars...Part 1. - from the Diablo Aʼs newsletter A Little Humor... An old farmer was inconsolable after his dog went missing. His wife suggests he take out an ad in the newspaper, which he does. But two weeks later, there s been no response. What did you write in the ad? his wife asks. Here, boy, he replies. From the local paper comes this story of a Brisbane couple who drove their car to the shopping centre, only to have it break down in the car park. The man told his wife to carry on with the shopping while he fixed it. The wife returned later to see a small group of people near the car. On closer inspection, she saw a pair of hairy legs protruding from under the chassis. Unfortunately, although the man was in shorts, his lack of underpants turned his private parts into glaringly public ones. Unable to stand the embarrassment, she dutifully stepped forward and quickly put her hand up his shorts, and tucked everything back into place. On regaining her feet she looked across the bonnet and found herself staring at her husband who was standing idly by watching. The AA mechanic however, had to have three stitches in his forehead.
