1 Hanover Township Landmark Commission Meeting Minutes May 22, Chairman called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm. Members Present: M., B. Blumenfeld, A. Loughlin, R. Conte, M. Saul, L., G. Coppola, M. Knauss, P. Petrillo, R., Secretary A. Kraynak, Present, Liaison B. Cahill, Present, Guest P. Kruger, P Connolly, and G. Dambach. Members Absent: M. Sieka 2. Chairman asked if there were any changes to the meeting minutes. Member Blumenfeld and Member Loughlin had a few minor changes. Member Blumenfeld made a motion approve as amended to the meeting minutes. Member Loughlin seconded the motion. All members were in favor. 3. Treasurer s Report - Member Blumenfeld said that there was bill for Trukmanns for printing of $ Liaison Cahill said it was for the Whippany Historic Walking Trail booklets. Member Blumenfeld also said that $ was paid to the tourism bureau, $40.00 for the historical society, and $ for Member for miscellaneous items. Member Blumenfeld said that $9, was for cultural and $7, for preservation revision. Member Blumenfeld said that we have $10,106.89, but a few members discussed it and said that we should have $17, $1, Update Whippany Preservation Plan we can put towards the stones. 4. Review of Agenda 5. Items still awaiting answers / actions a. Trail & Forge re-creation meeting with Planning Board b. WBY -- Dead tree removal Liaison Cahill said that Ace Gallagher looked at the tree and agreed its dead. Liaison Cahill said that Ace Gallagher said that they would have to climb it and carefully cut the limbs and not ruin the stones. Liaison Cahill said that he will call some tree companies for One Day One School. Liaison Cahill said that the township committee can find another way for treatment if it s a danger to the public we ll take care of it. c. Visits with all HT commissions TBD 6. Upcoming Events a. Tricentennial Committee Meeting June 4 b. May 23 rd, Hanover Wind I - Chairman will be speaking at the concert. c. May 28 th Memorial Day Parade Member Loughlin has the candy and she said she will be carrying the Landmark Commission banner. Member Loughlin said we need someone to carry the American Flag and that we also have a British Flag is someone would like to carry the British flag. Chairman said that he will carry the American Flag. Member Blumenfeld said that the American Flags need to be replaced at the Rochambeau stones on Whippany Road. G. Dambach said that he will take care of it.

2 d. June 2 nd Clean Up at Whippany Burying Yard. Bring Lunch and Water. e. June 6 th Channel 12 / WBY Filming - Chairman said that Channel 12 may be for about 90 minutes to 2 hours for approximately 90 seconds on the air. Chairman said he hopes to get Channel 12 to film a few more times at the Whippany Burying Yard. f. June 8 th NJ History and Historic Preservation Conference / Patterson Chairman said that Member Conte is attending and we have space for 4 people to attend. g. June 9 th WBY Tour / First Presbyterian Church 10:00 am Chairman said that is practice for the July 4 th Whippany Burying Yard Tour. Chairman said this will not be in costume. h. July 4 th Living WBY Tour i. August 6 th Whippanong Library Program on the WBY j. August 18 Historic Day in Wharton- Landmark Commission will have a space at the event. k. Sept 8 th Hanover Township Day l. October 20 th Olde & Newe Families Gathering Brunch Member Loughlin said that she reserved the First Presbyterian Church and they will provide the tables, chairs and we can have our own caterer. Member Loughlin said it will cost $20.00 per person. Member Loughlin said she has gone as far as she can right now for the Olde & Newe Families Gathering Brunch. m. TBS: Digging around the Whippany Burying Yard book meeting n. TBS: MAGS Program about the WBY o. Archival Room Member Conte said that they met with a person from the NJ State Archival Association. Member Conte said he explained everything and to write a statement. Member Conte said I mainly need supplies and put it into boxes. Member Conte said he gave us somewhere to start. Member Conte said if we apply for a grant we have to show that we are branching out for example reaching out to the schools and also we should be sharing items with the public. Member Conte said wooden cabinets are the worst thing to store stuff but if we use the wooden cabinets the stuff should be put in archival boxes. Member Conte said that its very important that when someone donates an item its important that they sign a paper that they donated it. 7. Projects Review (from Dashboard) 8. Newly discovered (or remembered) Tasks Pins Member is working on the 300 th Anniversary Pin with the Arch Angel design. Member said his computer couldn t transfer it into line art. Member also framed the Proclamation and everyone agreed it should hang over the display case. Magazine Article - Chairman said that Robin Dente is going to put an article in the NJ Municipalities magazine about the Whippany Burying Yard it will be in the August edition. Chairman said he will help with the article.

3 Barrels - Chairman said that two barrels are filled with dirt and one is broken. Chairman asked if we could get a new barrel. Member suggested the barrels are at Agway. Bridge Chairman said the bridge doesn t look good and it needs to be stained again. P. Kruger said he will donate 2 gallons of stain. Cornerstone of Church Chairman said that we wanted to have a memorial in the burying yard with a cross there for July 4 th. Member said he will build a cross. Finials - Member said that if you want the finials cast out of iron it would cost approximately $5, $6, Member said that aluminum would be cheaper. Member suggested we could use the grant money part of the preservation. E-Blast Chairman said that we have an article for September and who is doing the next one and we need an article on the hedge. T. Swala suggested that in the July issue we advertise the Whippany Burying Yard Tour. 9. Open discussion P. Connolly said next to the Hermes property is a mess, the grass is mile high, and the garage on the property the roof is caving in, trees fell down on the property, somebody left paint on the property, and P. Connolly said its getting worse and worse. P. Connolly suggested said speed limit signs would also help. Liaison Cahill will look into it. Adjournment Chairman adjourned the meeting at 9:00 pm.
