5 ALWAYS bring your SCRIPT and a PENCIL to rehearsal! Rehearsal Terms : These are the first rehearsals to follow the read through, and they are the ones where the motions the actors carry out on stage (walk over to the desk, sit on this line, etc.) are worked out. The actors should make notes of their blocking in their scripts. : The next time we rehearse a scene after it has been blocked the actor should have his / her lines memorized. Actors will not be allowed to take their script on stage for these rehearsals, but they can ask for help if they are having trouble remembering a line. : These rehearsals are done one-on-one or in small groups. The actors get a chance to work with the director on developing their individual character(s) and making them come to life. : The next time a scene is called after a rehearsal the actors should have their lines down (unless the director makes a determination otherwise). At this rehearsal the actor is not allowed to call for a line if they forget what they are supposed to say they just have to make something up or hope one of the other actors on stage will save them. This is good practice for being on stage during a performance when things may go wrong and the actors may have to compensate for it. : Scripts are not allowed on stage for these rehearsals, but the actors should have them along nonetheless for taking notes or (in some cases) looking up something in the script with the director. These rehearsals are where the real acting begins the student should not be struggling with lines or trying to hold a script in their hands while they follow their blocking. Choreography (Choreo): These are dancing rehearsals for the very end of the show. All actors and any tech who wish to be a part of this dancing curtain call are required to attend these rehearsals. These rehearsals are very important because they put the final stamp onto our production. Dry Tech: get a chance to run through the scene changes without the actors present. Cue to Cue: This is the first chance to run through the show with technical aspects. The crew will get to run through the show with the actors, focusing on the scene changes. There may be some stopping and starting and maybe even skipping around (if there are long scenes without technical elements to be worked in). Acting is not the focus on this rehearsal, but students should still have their script and a pencil just in case they are given a note. This rehearsal is primarily to integrate the technical elements of the show into the scenes (and scene changes) we ve been working on for so long. Actors may be asked to help with some of the scene changes. Tech Week: All actors are required to be present for these rehearsals conflicts are no longer allowed (except for illness). The rehearsals will be run as if we were putting on the performance. Students should have their scripts and pencils for the purpose of writing down notes given to them by the director either after the run is completed or the next day before the run begins.
