3 HELLO Walter Meierjohann Born in Amsterdam and with previous work at the Dresden State Theatre, the Residenztheater, Munich and the Young Vic, Walter Meierjohann is the new Artistic Director for theatre at HOME HOME will bring something radically different to Manchester s thriving theatre scene Created from the merger of Cornerhouse and the Library Theatre Company and housed within a new 25m purpose-built venue, due to open in spring 2015, HOME will produce international, provocative, visual and poetic theatre that interrogates and illuminates our existence and experiences today With this in mind, I am delighted to introduce our very first season of theatre And it s a season with a difference a site-specific programme of performances held across the city We take you on a journey from the dark alleyways of Ancoats to the bright and majestic Victoria Baths and finally to a contemporary office floor overlooking HOME s new building as it nears completion All the works are questioning and ambitious artistic projects that involve audiences with new and extraordinary theatrical experiences A common thread runs through the season Angel Meadow is about the Irish community of Ancoats, Romeo and Juliet famously focuses on the conflict between two feuding communities, and The Events is about a broken community and will feature performances from several Manchester community choirs As we move into our temporary home and creative hub at Number One First Street, we also invite companies to join us notably BE (Birmingham European) FESTIVAL and re:play Festival 2015 It s an exciting, and slightly unusual, time for us We re unveiling our very first season before our new building has even been built We re busy creating a theatre that reflects, interrogates and explores the idea of belonging And the whole site-specific season is a taste of things to come Walter Meierjohann Artistic Director: Theatre, HOME
