1 60 years of excellent community theatre SIXTY YEARS SEASON by Marisha Chamberlain based on the story by Louisa May Alcott Directed by Moira Nikander-Forrester December 1-17, 2011 Pinnacle Playhouse Belleville, Ontario
2 THE CAST ACTOR ROLE Heather Barker Jo Sonya Zaback Meg Ellie Hutchison Beth Sarah Vanberkel Amy Kathy Lacasse Marmee Sharon Smit Hannah Joanne Savage Aunt March Jesse Duncan Laurie Taylor Beach Brooke Ken Capstick Old Mr. Laurence Marvin Tucker Father Setting The action of the play takes place in the New England home of the March family from one Christmas to another during the American Civil War. There will be one 15-minute intermission Produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc. (playscripts.com) Little Women from the director The characters in this play are as vital now as when first portrayed in their story set in 1863 during the American Civil war, 148 years ago. Alcott writes about her family with love, but also with truth, so that we can believe in the honest dynamics that create the drama of their lives. Despite the fact that they live with death at their doorstep, where women are confined to their hearth and home living out much of their lives vicariously through their men, we long for that time. The home is filled with music, art, writing and theatre. On the other hand, there is the young woman born into the wrong time period, struggling against the social norms to be independent; to be a person in a man s world. Just as today, there is much that is unresolved, except they can carry on because they have each other. It is a beautiful story; we offer it up to you this Christmas Season, Merry Christmas. Moira Nikander-Forrester Acknowledgements City of Belleville, The Quinte Arts Council, Shield Media, Quinte Broadcasting, Starboard Communications, The Intelligencer, Community Press, Loyalist College, Funk & Gruven A-Z, Culligan The Good Water Company, Tipper Financial Services, and the friends and families of the production team.
