3 THE CREW Thank you for making this production possible. It has been a pleasure, I am truly grateful. David Auburn s Proof echoes the great tradition of modern American drama with its depiction of familial love and the sacrifices that it demands of you. Auburn does an excellent job of portraying both the structural and analytical success and the insecurities and madness of the world of mathematics. The clever connection between mathematical proofs and real life presents you the audience with a topic you can really chew on: Can you prove everything? Can you prove anything? What are the things in life which must be accepted by faith? Who are those people in our live s who can be trusted? Why is it important in relationships that faith and trust to be essential? Proof s diversity of emotion is impressive, in that grief, stress, confusion, suspicion, and irritation are artistically blended with humour, love, tenderness, budding romance, and hope. This is as much a story of trust and betrayal, of love and loyalty - of the things that bind us together in our humanity and the things that rip us apart. Proof is a passionate, intelligent story about fathers and daughters, the nature of genius, and the power of love. Once more thank you to the cast and crew, and to you the audience our essential partners in keeping theatre alive in Belleville, now is your turn to climb onboard and enjoy the ride with us. Bill McMahon

12 OUR SEASON subscribe and save 5 plays for $80 visit our site for more information bellevilletheatreguild.ca A MURDER IS ANNOUNCED OCT 11-27, 2018 by Agatha Christie. Directed by Lise Lindenberg. Amateur detective Miss Marple reads an advertisement in the local paper announcing that a murder will occur at a specific time and place. It s similar to a wedding or funeral notice. Shocking! Luckily, our sleuth is acquainted with the owner of the curious crime scene. The usual suspects (the batty, the beautiful, and the brawny) are no match for the pure genius of our heroine. With deadly aim and quiet perseverance, she peels away the layers of deception. One of Agatha Christie s finest mysteries. RUMORS NOV DEC. 15, 2018 by Neil Simon. Directed by Maija Thompson. A tenth wedding anniversary party should be a fun time with good friends to entertain. The comic master Neil Simon is not going to be that predictable. When guests arrive there is no sign of the hosts or the food. The husband is found shot, in his bed, apparently comatose, and the wife is missing. More guests arrive... influential people with reputations to protect. They become very creative about saving themselves from a steamy scandal. As the explanations, rumors and lies mount up, so does the irresistible urge to laugh. PROOF January 31 - February 16, 2019 by Davd Auburn. Directed by Bill McMahon. The 2001 Pulitzer Prize winner for Drama, David Auburn s Proof is a story about family and complex relationships. Catherine has inherited her late father Robert s mathematical brilliance, but is haunted by the fear that she might also share his debilitating mental illness. Upon his death, she finds herself caught between a new-found connection with Hal, one of her father s former students, and the reappearance of her sister Claire. A passionate examination of the nature of genius, gender, and the power of love THE STING (Adapted for the stage by David Rogers) APR. 4-20, 2019 Directed by Heather Barker, Jamie Hosking. Enter a seedy world of cons and capers, where nothing is what it seems and no one is who they appear to be. This brilliant stage adaptation of the Paul Newman, Robert Redford film tells the tale of a pair of con men, small-town grifter Johnny Hooker and big-time hustler Henry Gondorff, as they plot to bring down the city s most corrupt racketeer. The Sting takes us back to an era when the stakes are high, the excitement is explosive, and the dice are always loaded. THE LAST FIVE YEARS May 30 - June 15, 2019 by Jason Robert Brown. Directed by Alyssa Ross, Amy-Lyn Van Londersele. We are excited to present The Last Five Years, a fascinating, one act, two-person musical that shows the down-to-earth story of love, marriage, and separation of lovers Jamie, an aspiring novelist who rises quickly to fame and Cathy, an aspiring actress, who doesn t. It follows the lovers relationship from beginning to end in a series of solitary moments, each from their own perspective, and with two opposing timelines. In the skillful hands of Tony Award Winner Jason Robert Brown, this chamber musical is free from the sweeping orchestrations, a chorus of singers and dancers, and that glittering, artificial scene you would usually find in a Broadway musical. In its place you ll find something poignant, intimate, and undeniably endearing.
