1 Rexburg Community Theatre is Extremely Proud to Announce its 2016 Musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Everyone s favorite flying car comes to life in the musical adaptation of the beloved family film. Take a fantastic musical adventure with an out-of-this-world car that flies through the air and sails the seas. Based on the beloved 1968 film version of Ian Fleming s children s book, and featuring an unforgettable score by the Sherman Brothers (Mary Poppins), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is one familyfriendly blockbuster that audiences will find Truly Scrumptious. An eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts sets about restoring an old race car from a scrap heap with the help of his children Jeremy and Jemima. They soon discover the car has magical properties including the ability to float and take flight. Trouble occurs when the evil Baron Bomburst desires the magic car for himself. The family joins forces with Truly Scrumptious and batty Grandpa. Cast Requirements: This is a LARGE cast (50+), with many featured roles for all ages. These are open auditions. Auditions for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Madison High School Vocal Room Children s auditions (ages 8-13) will be held on Thursday, April 14 th from 6:00-8:00 PM.

2 Adult auditions (ages 14+) will be held on Thursday, April 14 th, from 8:00-9:00 PM and/or Friday, April 15 th from 6:00-9:00 PM. You are only required to attend one of those audition nights. Please sign up for a time-slot below and arrive 10 minutes before your appointment to check in and get a number. Please bring your audition form, which can be printed from the website, along with a small head shot. There will be audition forms on-site, but come earlier to allow time to fill one out. Those auditioning must guarantee no conflicts in final rehearsal period (June 14 th -24 th, 2016) and all performances. Time Commitment: Rehearsals will begin Tuesday, April 19 th at 7:00 PM at Madison Jr. High School Auditorium and will run three to four times each week including a Saturday morning rehearsal at 9:00 AM. All rehearsals will run approximately 2 hours, with Saturday being a 3 hour rehearsal. A tentative rehearsal schedule will be available at auditions. Not all cast members will be required to be at every rehearsal depending upon your role. Performances will be held on June 24 th, 25 th and 27 th, 2016 at the Madison Performing Arts Center in Rexburg. Material to Prepare: Children will all sing from the theme song, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang". The lyrics for the audition section and a link to the song on YouTube can be found on the audition page of the website. Children will sing the entire section containing the lyrics referenced, even though some is sung by adults on the recording. They will be brought onto the stage in their group of 8. They will all sing the section of the song together and then each will have the opportunity to step forward and sing it on their own.

3 Adults and teens 14 years and older please prepare 1 minute of a Broadway song in the style of Chitty that shows us your range and comedic acting abilities. An accompanist will be provided, or you may bring your own live or recorded. Children and Adults come dressed to move for dance audition. No open toed shoes. You will also do a cold read from the script. No monologues. Call backs will be announced by telephone on Friday night and will be held on Saturday, April 16 th from 9:00AM until noon. The cast list will be posted at by the end of the day on Saturday, April 16 th, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Character List You must be able to play the age of the actor. We can always age you. CARACTACUS POTTS: (30 s plus or minus) Lead Male. - An eccentric, brilliant, English inventor and loving father and son. His inventions and children are his life. Featured in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, You Two, Toots Sweet, Hushabye Mountain, Me Ol Bamboo, Team Work, Doll On a Box. Male, Vocal Range: A3 G5 TRULY SCRUMPTIOUS: (20-30 s) Lead Female. Daughter of the famous candy maker, Lord Scrumptious. Strong and independent, but gentle. Falls in love with Caractacus. Featured in Toots Sweet, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Truly Scrumptious, Lovely-Lonely Man, Teamwork, Doll on a Box. Female, Vocal Range: A3 E5

4 GRANDPA POTTS: (Over 50) Major Character. Caractacus Potts s father, who is a former war hero. He loves to tell old War stories. A sort of second father to Jeremy and Jemima. Featured in You Three, Posh, The Roses of Success, Chitty, Chitty Bang, Bang and other ensemble music. Male, Vocal Range: C4 E5 BARON BOMBURST (20-60): Major Comic Character. Tyrannical ruler of Vulgaria and a lover of toys. A man-child, he is very immature, needy, and whiney. Featured in Chu-Chi Face vocal and ensemble music. Male, Vocal Range: E4 E5 BARONESS BOMBURST (20-40 VERY flexible): Major Comic Character. Head of the Vulgarian Parliament and a hater of children. Tyrannical and dramatic. Featured in Chu-Chi Face, The Bombie Samba and ensemble music. Female, Vocal Range: G3 G5 BORIS (20-60): Major Comic Character. A member of the twoperson Vulgarian gang that works for the Baron and Baroness. Though he is not very smart, he is the leader. Featured in Vaudeville duet Act English, ensemble music. Male, Vocal Range: C4 G5 GORAN (20-60): Major Comic Character. One member of the two- person Vulgarian gang that works for the Baron and Baroness. A dumb oaf. Featured in Vaudeville duet Act English, ensemble music. Male, Vocal Range: D4 G5 THE CHILD CATCHER (20-60): Major Villain. He makes sure that Vulgaria is child-free. Evil and manipulative. Hates children almost as much as the Baroness. Male, Speaking role. THE TOYMAKER (30-60): Strong Supporting Character. With all children outlawed in Vulgaria, this toy-making genius only works for the child-like Baron. Smart but frightened. Featured in Teamwork, ensemble music. Male, Vocal Range: C4 E5

5 JEMIMA POTTS (10-12): Lead Female Child. Caractacus s daughter. She is an adventurous girl with a vivid imaginations. A total child at heart who loves her family. Featured in You Two, Toots Sweet, Posh, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Truly Scrumptious, Teamwork. Female, Vocal Range: C4 E5 JEREMY POTTS (10-12): Lead Male Child. Caractacus s son. An adventurous boy with a vivid imagination. A total child at heart who loves his family. Featured in You Two, Toots Sweet, Posh, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Truly Scrumptious, Teamwork. Male, Vocal Range: C4 E5 LORD SCRUMPTIOUS (40-60): Owner of the Scrumptious Sweet Factory. Truly s father. Extremely busy, important, and decisive. Toots Sweet vocal Male, Speaking Role THE INVENTORS: (20-70): 8 inventors made up to look like old men. Featured in a comic and challenging soft shoe dance-the Roses of Success and also included in many major dance/vocal ensemble numbers. COGGINS: (30-50) Garage Owner. Fatherly and caring. JUNKMAN: (Flexible) Customer for the old race car. Greedy and spiteful. MISS PHILLIPS: (Flexible) Candy factory receptionist. Very efficient and mechanical. ASSISTANT TO MISS PHILLIPS (flexible age) - follows Miss Phillips like a shadow - can be woman or man CHEFF (flexible age) head chef at Scrumptious Candy Factory VIOLET: (20-40) Fun Fare Tourist. Pushy and overbearing. SID: (20-40) Violet s husband. Weak but with a strong temper.

6 TURKEY FARMER: (Flexible) Buyer of Pott s barber machine. Good humored and enthusiastic. VULGARIAN SHIP CAPTAIN: (40-60) Booming voice. VULGARIAN CAPTAIN OF THE GUARD: (40-60) Leader of Vulgarian Guards. Pompous and cowardly SOLDIERS (4 in total NOT counting the Captain): (Flexible ages) Comic members of the elite Vulgarian Guard. MORRIS MEN/WOMEN: (16) Featured in Me Ol Bamboo, Bombie Samba and all major dance numbers. DANCERS (8 men and 8 women - total of 16 dancers): Dazzling numbers include Toots Sweet, Me Ol Bamboo, and the famous Bombie Samba Ensemble. ENSEMBLE: Actors will play characters in the English Crowd at the Grand Prix, English Villagers, and Citizens of Vulgaria, those attending Fun Fair (carnival) including some that can be acrobats and gymnasts - approximately 50 parts. Musical numbers include Toots Sweet, Me Ol Bamboo, Chitty, Chitty, Bang Bang, Vugarian Anthem and Bombie Samba. LOST CHILDREN IN THE SEWERS OF VULGARIA - could be anywhere from Teamwork, Fun Fair, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. STEPHEN: Older, leader. GRETA: Older, leader. SUSAN: Bully MARTA: Young and frightened.
