4 Section One Introduction 1.2 Purpose of the Guide The purpose of the Hexion Corporate Identity Standards and Design Guidelines is to provide an understanding of Hexion s brand strategy, our desired brand image and the tools available to develop consistent, on-brand communications. Hexion s brand image will be formed over time by our ability to deliver on our BRAND PROMISE. Through this promise and the traits we have defined for our brand, we will create brand experiences from web sites, collateral, sales presentations and customer care to product functionality and service that build preference and loyalty for the Hexion brand. Our brand promise and brand traits not only define who we are in the marketplace, but also set us apart from our competition. These guidelines provide standards for our corporate identity as well. This identity will serve as the front door to our brand. As communicators, your role is critical to our success. We have an opportunity to establish a new vibrant brand in the minds of all who touch or are touched by our people, products and services. By providing consistent, positive brand experiences for our audiences, we will be successful. In Section Two: Hexion Corporate Brand Overview, we outline the Hexion brand strategy. In Section Three: The New Look: The Hexion Corporate Identity, we provide an overview of Hexion s corporate logo configurations and delineate their appropriate usages. In Section Six: Hexion Design System, we define the design elements that complement the Hexion identity, and explain how these elements work together to create visually distinctive communications that support our brand. These design elements and usage guidelines have been designed to allow creative flexibility, while ensuring visual consistency across a myriad of communications.

10 Section Three The New Look The Hexion Corporate Identity 3.1 Logo Configurations Corporate 2.5 A New Look for Hexion 3.2 Trademark Usage 3.3 Logo Isolation Area 3.4 Logo Sizes 3.5 Corporate Logo Color Requirements 3.6 Logo Applications The Hexion Corporate Logo is the primary visual identity device which conveys the ownership of, and responsibility for, all Hexion Specialty Chemicals properties, functions, products, services and personnel. The correct usage of this logo helps to promote and reinforce brand identity while at the same time build brand equity. The Hexion Corporate Logo is rarely, if ever, used alone. It is normally seen combined with one of the two descriptive identifiers: Marketing Entity Identifier Signature Entity Identifier The exceptions to this rule apply only to promotional items where size reduction or enlargement would render the Descriptive Identifiers illegible or obtrusive. Acceptable Applications: Trade Show/Event Materials Impact X The unique graphic element, consisting of a custom designed X coupled with a traditional hexagon shape, which creates a strong and memorable focal point. For further information regarding its usage, see Section Wordmark The combination of the Impact X and custom modified letters that collectively create the Hexion Corporate Logo. Promotional/Premium Items For questions or concerns about the correct selection of a logo configuration, Hexion Corporate Logo NOTE: Exceptions must be approved by the Hexion Marketing Communications Department.

Therefore, the addition of a Specialty Chemicals identifier, aligned with the Hexion Corporate Logo, creates our Marketing Entity. The primary usage for this configuration is on stationery, marketing/corporate collateral material, signage and sales promotional items. The following applications list can help you determine when this configuration is required. Sections eight through thirteen of these standards show correct usage on various communication examples. The example below is the only acceptable configuration of the Marketing Entity, and may not be altered or modified in any way. It is created by combining the Hexion Corporate Logo with the appropriate complete legal name of the geographical Corporate/Divisional Entity or the Business Unit, including the local mailing address. 13 Section Three The New Look The Hexion Corporate Identity 3.2 Trademark Usage 2.5 A New Look for Hexion 3.4 Logo Sizes Logo Trademark Usage The Hexion logo is protected by trademark law in the countries in which we operate. This provides Hexion with protection against others who might use a similar name or mark in our marketplace to gain entry. By law, Hexion has the right to actively pursue those who would intend to do so and views infringement or dilution of the mark, by commercial entities, as legally actionable. We have created this logo to show a strong, visually distinctive mark that is easily protected. Please keep in mind that these usage standards are in place to ensure that the Hexion Corporate Logo remains a strong and identifiable mark. Only by consistent use of the logo, and its two acceptable configurations, Hexion Corporate Logo with TM do we continue to strengthen our right to this mark. Any dilution of the mark (see page unacceptable configurations ) may weaken our right to such protection. The Trademark TM Symbol For most logo applications, Hexion uses the TM symbol to indicate our right to this mark; however, on applications where a TM becomes obtrusive because of logo enlargement, or too small because of reduction, options exist (see Logo Sizes page 3.4). The Signature Entity is always required on the back of printed literature as part of the legal sign-off. The TM must appear on all print materials. The TM is not used on electronic presentations or on specialty items such as clothing, pens, pencils, etc., or on large materials such as banners, signage, etc. where the symbol becomes obtrusive. Trademark Usage with Body Copy The Hexion Corporate Logo may never be used within body copy situations. When used in text, the Hexion name should appear in the same font and size as the surrounding body copy. Within collateral, advertising and other related marketing communications, the first mention of Hexion must be trademarked TM and accompanied by the complete Legal Name. For all remaining Hexion references within the same document, the TM is not used. Do not use the TM in title or headline situations. Hexion Corporate Logo with Marketing Entity Identifier with TM

Message: Mark, Hexion Specialty Chemicals is the combination of four separate and unique companies that represent more than 200 years of branding identity and a reputation for quality products and outstanding service. Hexion is a new name in the marketplace. We are faced with a tremendous challenge, as well as an incredible opportunity, of introducing a new company to the world. It s extremely critical that at its inception, we present the new company name of Hexion Specialty Chemicals in the most positive and consistent means available to us. We believe our global scale and breadth of product line will help us deliver significant advantages to our customers. We have opportunities to increase sales of products by introducing them to new geographies, and we will also be able to offer a more diverse product line to all our customers, utilizing the existing product lines of each of the combined businesses. These new Corporate Identity Standards represent very stringent guidelines for how we use the new corporate name and logo in the marketplace. Obviously, this is an incredible undertaking that will involve changing the name in more than 85 manufacturing locations around the world alone. This change will not happen overnight. And the standards in this Manual may not foresee all possible future usages. It is our intention, however, that these guidelines set the tone for corporate standards in how we use the Hexion logo and the Hexion Specialty Chemicals name. These guidelines should provide the practical tools and information needed to carry out our Identity Strategy. By following these guidelines, you will do your part in helping us increase the value of the Hexion brand in the marketplace. The accompanying guidelines and standards will be published on the Hexion Intranet and should be used on all new materials, effective immediately. The Alignment Grid which has been customized for specific collateral items is the starting point for any page layout. It is used to ensure consistent placement of design system components, which helps to create the visually distinct architecture unique to Hexion communications, while allowing for design flexibility. Alignment Grid Example shown four-column grid for use in North American 8.5x11 or Worldwide A4 Sizes Enabling the Next Generation of Inkjet Printing If you re in the on-demand printing industry, or you manufacture a product that requires the application of ink on a heat-sensitive surface, your job is becoming more demanding. The pressure to improve productivity, enhance print performance on sensitive substrates, and find greener solutions is constantly growing. The advantages of curing inks using ultraviolet light have been well-documented. Inkjet printers using UV-curable digital inks are jumping ahead of screen printing, offset printing, and thermal transfer printing for several reasons including small footprints, higher line speeds, and the elimination of solvents. UV-curable technology integrated into wide format inkjet printers is also emerging as an alternative for a variety of industrial printing applications such as 3-D graphic art, packaging, electronic and phototonic device fabrication, and medical diagnostic and procedures. The UV-Curable Expert Hexion Specialty Chemicals has long been a leader in developing cutting edge technology in the area of UV-curable inks and coatings. Our UV-curable inks are used to color code fiber optic cables worldwide, while our UV-curable coatings have been protecting light bearing glass strands as well as CDs and DVDs from dust, moisture, scratches, and other contaminants for decades. These coatings are also being used in highly specialized applications such as fiber optic gyros for precise positioning in battlefield navigation because of their ability to resist friction. The promise in terms of customization and versatility for both the printing industry and manufacturers of printed products such as membrane switches, automotive clusters, appliances, cell phones and glass decorations is large. With wide format inkjet printers using UV-curable technology, colors and designs can be changed virtually at will, allowing production flexibility. Traditional web and screen printing, on the other hand, are both labor-intensive and suited only for long runs. How UV-Curable Printing Works The UV-curable material, a combination of monomers, photoinitiators, and oligomers, is formulated into the ink. Energy from a UV lamp built into the inkjet printer polymerizes the UV-curable materials onto the substrate. The system is solvent-free and requires less than a second of exposure for complete curing to occur. Hexion s combination of UVcurable products, unmatched technical service, and global capabilities have allowed us to serve a wide range of customers with tailored solutions that deliver the specific performance characteristics they need. Now, Hexion is applying its expertise in UV-curable technology to the development of quality digital inkjet inks for use in drop-on-demand (DOD) piezoelectric print heads. UV-Curable Printing Advantages Eliminate solvents and VOC emissions, lowering the impact of environmental compliance Increase production line speeds while reducing manufacturing footprint Print and ship product immediately Improve control of cure temperature on heatsensitive substrates Obtain maximum flexibility and customization Achieve exceptional resolution, durability, adhesion and lightfastness

Focused Expertise for Targeted Benefits Hexion gives you benefits focused on your specific application. Your solution includes comprehensive hands-on support for any number of targeted process improvements. For example, we helped a furniture manufacturer lower manufacturing costs, simplify assembly, and provide more consistent results by implementing synthetic cross bands. You can improve your processes with the wide selection of products available from Hexion, including UF, PVA, EVA, EPI, and PURbased hot melt solutions. Our representatives help you select an ideal solution that meets your targeted objectives. Comprehensive Support from Start to Finish You ll realize another significant difference with Hexion after selecting an adhesive, because we re there to support you at every step of the process. If you have any concerns at startup or any other time, Hexion s technical representatives are there for consultation and assistance. Veneer splicing applications demonstrate how important the initial setup process can be. Veneers may fail if splicing machines are not precisely calibrated, heater bars are not the correct temperature range, or spray guns apply the adhesives too lightly. Hexion ensures that every critical variable is addressed according to specifications, for veneer splicing as well as other flooring, furniture, and cabinetry applications. You ll also benefit from our extensive process and testing expertise. This includes process validation, bond performance, durability studies, wood species evaluation, and much more at our many research and testing facilities. Process Improvements that Save Cost considerations are critical today. With flooring, furniture, and cabinetry applications, the greatest cost savings can be achieved by using adhesives that result in efficient processes versus applying the lowest priced adhesive. Hexion can help you evaluate, select, and implement processes that offer the greatest cost-saving potential. A kitchen cabinet manufacturer gained a number of advantages by switching from a UF powder to a liquid melamine solution for membrane pressing of cabinet doors. The Hexion solution eliminated mixing, opened up time- and cost-saving automation opportunities, and provided a cleaner process without powder dust. It also reduced the need for moisture saturation during manufacture, preventing foldover and virtually eliminating the need for finishing later in the process. Even though the liquid melamine adhesive cost twice as much as the UF powder adhesive, all the process advantages added up to substantial savings. Your savings potential from Hexion solutions may result from a variety of unexpected process improvements. A table manufacturer didn t expect great savings since adhesives represented only one to two percent of the finished product cost. Hexion provided significant savings by eliminating poor quality laminations that caused losses as high as $1,000 per table. A large mill benefited from a Hexion solution that allowed on-the-fly application of adhesives for a veneer splicing operation. This eliminated a curing time that had contributed as much as two days to the manufacturing process. Challenge Challenge Challenge Challenge Challenge My marketing guys and designers are driving me crazy. They re pushing new veneers with different colors and variations that I have to stick to substrates and I can t afford to experiment on line. I can t use contact cement ent because of VOC issues. I m being pushed to find lower cost substrates and veneers. This adds to the complexity of finding the ideal binder resins ones that won t compromise my throughput or quality. I m tired of living with the inconsistencies of hand-mixing glue. Give me something that s not so labor-intensive and won t delaminate. And get rid of the mess, dust and waste. Scrap is killing me on my panels because of the trash under the substrate. We can t see it until it gets through the process and then it s too late. However, this in turn can drastically affect the cure speed, especially the bottom cure. This is because TiO 2 is a strong absorber of UV light. A 9-micron-thick coating of an ink was cured using a medium-pressure doped mercury (Hg) vapor lamp powered at 300 Watts per inch. Cure speed was determined using FTIR by measuring the peak area at 810 cm-1 for the ink and the cured film. A plot of cure speed versus energy density or dosage for the white ink is shown in Figure 5. The inks were formulated such that the cure is >90% for both top and bottom surfaces at and above an energy density of 200 mj/cm 2. Opacity Inorganic pigments such as TiO 2 are commonly used as pigments in UVcurable white inks. The particle size of TiO 2 plays a significant role in the opacity. Figure 6 shows the relative scattering power of red, green and blue light versus the particle size of TiO 2. It is evident that scattering of the red, blue and green light is maximized at a particle size of nm. The concentration of TiO 2 can affect the opacity of the cured film. Figure 7 shows the relationship between opacity and percent TiO 2 loading. The opacity increases almost linearly until a TiO 2 content of 20% and then reaches a plateau. As the TiO 2 concentration increases, diffractive light scattering decreases because of TiO 2 particle overcrowding. Figure 5 Plot of % degree of cure versus energy density or dosage for HexiJet White ink Top cure 87 Bottom cure Energy Density or Dosage (mj/cm 2 ) Figure 6 Relationship between TiO 2 particle size and light scattering (Courtesy:Dupont Technical Bulletin) Blue 0.50 Green 0.25 Red Diameter (microns) Figure 7 Relationship between opacity and percent TiO % TiO 2 % degree of Cure Relative scattering power Opacity (%) Settling Stability One gauge of reliability in UV-curable inkjet inks is resistance to settling. Ink settling is usually measured along with aging to determine if the particles agglomerate or flocculate. UV-curable inkjet inks that resist settling are highly desirable. It reduces preparation time before usage, and hence agitation of ink before loading is not essential. Thus the ink may be left in the printhead for an extended period of time. All of this simplifies and expedites the start-up and the clean-up process. A key factor that leads to the settling of the white ink is the large density difference between the inorganic pigments and the ink vehicle. However, the unique chemistry in HexiJet White ink is optimized to provide ink with good settling stability. Figure 8 shows a representative aging profile for the HexiJet White ink. The ink was aged at 60 C for an extended period of time. The overlay of the profiles is used to determine any pigment agglomeration. An ink is considered to have settled when the change in the backscattering is above 5%. The settling stability value obtained for the accelerated aged sample was converted to the equivalent stability at room temperature to obtain a stability of 50 days. It has to be pointed out that a gentle swirl, without the introduction of any air bubbles in the ink will maintain and extend settling shelf life. Particle size characterization also supports the finding that the inks remain stable over the time period. In order to understand the significance of the sedimentometry results in realistic conditions, jet stability of the white ink was monitored using the Spectra head SE-128 printhead. Figure 9 shows the jet operating window for the 50-day aged sample versus the unaged sample. The results indicate no significant decrease in the jet-operating window over the temperature ranges, indicating a very stable ink. Good settling stability for the HexiJet White ink is an attractive option for the end user since there is no need to invest in special printhead equipment requiring stirring or agitation. In fact, there was no loss of opacity for the printed sample after storage of the HexiJet White ink in the printhead for over seven days without any agitation. This ensures uniform end user properties for the cured film. Voltage (V) Initial Temperature (C) days 6 7 Safe Handling Guidelines Single-page Case History Single-page Case History Safe Handling Guidelines Handling Instructions for Hexion s HexIJet UV Inkjet Inks Hexion s New StructurFast X-TRA Resin Technology Improves Production, Reduces Manufacturing Costs at Canfor s PolarBoard OSB Mill Before Use Swirl the original container to gently mix the HexIJet UV inks. Do not agitate vigorously as this will introduce air into the ultraviolet (UV) ink. Air bubbles will cause the printhead to prime up incorrectly (i.e. missing jets). General Handling Do not handle HexIJet CMYKWT UV inks (C = cyan, M = magenta, Y = yellow, K = black, W = white, T = clear) without proper personal protective equipment, such as gloves, safety goggles/glasses, and lab coats/aprons. Consult the MSDS before handling HexIJet UV inks. Observe proper light shielding of the HexIJet UV inks to prevent premature curing. This includes tubing, fittings, and reservoirs that need to be opaque to UV light. Printheads not in use should be covered with a lint-free cloth (without touching the nozzle plate) to minimize stray light to the nozzle plate. There are many potential sources of UV light (such as UV lamps, fluorescent bulbs, sunlight, incandescent bulbs, etc.) that can trigger premature curing. Purging Any non-hexion UV ink in the printhead needs to be flushed out with the HexIJet UV Flushing solution first. Approximately three to five times the volume of the reservoir, tubing, and printhead is needed to remove the colored ink or until the purged solution looks relatively clear. Once this is completed, colored HexIJet UV inks can be introduced to the system. When purging out the HexIJet UV Storage solution, use the desired HexIJet UV ink color. Approximately one to two times the volume of the reservoir, tubing, and printhead needs to be used in order to remove the clear storage solution. Priming The HexIJet CMYKWT UV inks should be primed through the printhead prior to jetting. It is probably not necessary to do each time, but it is recommended. Printhead Storage The ideal storage solution for the printhead is HexIJet UV Storage solution. It does not contain photoinitiators, which can react with UV light. It can be used for short-term or long-term storage. The HexIJet White UV ink should not be stored in the printhead for more than one hour without use. Purge the HexIJet White UV ink out with the HexIJet UV Flushing solution first (see Purging procedure) before introducing the HexIJet Storage solution. The HexIJet CMYKT UV inks can be stored in the printhead overnight or weekends. For long-term storage (greater than one week), it is recommended to use the HexIJet UV Storage solution. The HexIJet UV Flushing solution is not recommended as a storage solution. It is used solely to remove the UV ink out of a printhead when introducing another UV ink type or color. Internal Bond (psi) We ve reduced press time while maintaining high (internal bond) psi averages. Kym Gillett, Quality Control/Process Coordinator for Canfor PolarBoard Internal Bond with StructurFast X-TRA Resin Technology Laboratory tests and Canfor s mill results show that Hexion s new StructurFast X-TRA provides improved internal bond across a range of press cycle times for its 3/8" product. After a recent expansion project at its PolarBoard oriented strand board (OSB) facility in Fort Nelson, British Columbia, Canfor was looking for process improvements to further enhance annual production while maintaining or reducing manufacturing costs. The $25.6 million modernization project included installation of two highcapacity dryers, high-efficiency cyclones, additional emission control equipment and upgrades to the mill s log handling equipment. The project was estimated to reduce mill emissions by 21% while boosting production capacity from 535 million ft./yr. (3/8" basis) to 650 million ft./yr. One area where Canfor PolarBoard personnel focused improvement efforts was core resin cure speed. The plant had previously used liquid and powder phenolic resins for its OSB core layer but was considering a shift to polymeric dephenylmethane diisocynate (pmdi). pmdi has become widely accepted around the world for bonding the core layer of OSB panels because of its rapid cure and moisture tolerance properties. Several factors, including current pmdi market conditions, helped reinforce the strong partnership between Canfor and Hexion Specialty Chemicals as the management team explored its alternatives to support increased mill capacity. Hexion, which supplies 100% of Canfor s phenol formaldehyde resin requirements, was asked to provide a cost-effective core resin capable of delivering the required speed and moisture tolerance properties comparable to pmdi. These aggressive market conditions helped reinforce the strong partnership between Canfor and Hexion as the management team explored its alternatives to support increased mill capacity. Hexion, which supplies 100% of Canfor s phenol formaldehyde resin requirements, was asked to provide a cost-effective core resin capable of delivering the required speed and moisture tolerance properties comparable to pmdi.

Hexion Specialty Chemicals manages a wide variety of structurally unique properties in addition to custom applications for events and venues. Examples show style and scalability applied to a few typical applications. Trade shows/events must use the Hexion Marketing Entity. The Design System color palette should be used when selecting components to complement the booth property (i.e. carpeting and furniture). Due to the oversized nature of these materials, the size of logos, Color Panels, Overlap Panels, Connector Lines, Accent Tabs and Key Word Graphics may need to be enlarged. For oversized applications (24" x 36" and larger), scale the design components accordingly. Because trade shows, seminars and events are promotional, use of large white fields are preferred. 6.7 Overlap Panels 6.8 Connector Lines 6.9 Accent Tabs 6.10 Key Word Graphics 6.11 Photography 6.12 Impact X
