1 Grove City Community Library 125 W Main St Grove City, PA Phone April 2019 Newsletter April 2019 Volume 13, Issue 4 Library Hours Monday and Friday 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Spring is Nature's Way of Saying Let's Party! - Robin Williams Is there a better way of saying it? Spring is a time to celebrate new beginnings. Opening windows, letting fresh air in and washing those dusty drapes. At this time of the year when new opportunities seem possible, we hope you will turn to us to help you grow. It s fun to go outside again. Once you turn over those tired old plant beds, plan your garden by utilizing just a few of the many gardening books here at the library. Even outdoor makeovers become possible when you leaf through the pages of our landscaping and renovating books. If Spring cleaning is on your list, don t be discouraged. Inspiration is here in the form of books. One of the favorites is Use What You Have Decorating which shows you how to reorganize and transform your home in one hour utilizing furniture and items already in you house! Days are longer so why not use that extra hour of daylight you just gained? Plus, you ll save money by using what you already own. Which brings us to finances. Of course, we have books for that, too. It s also time to start eating healthier and we have a selection of cookbooks and exercise books that are just what you need to get into that beach-ready body! There are so many fresh, new recipes in our monthly Cooking the Books cookbook pick. See page 3 for more information on that program. To better serve our patrons with technical questions, our Book a Tech Hour is now available by appointment only. Please see page 8 for further information. You ll never be embarrassed about not being tech savvy during this one-on-one session. Summerizing your schedule? How about marking a night off for Pub Trivia or Girls Night Out? You ll make new friends, too! It s a win-win! Everything you need to know to attend our events is right here in the pages of this newsletter. Don t forget to sign-up for the Easter Bunny Lunch. Although the library will be closed, it will be open ONLY for Easter Bunny Lunch on Good Friday, April 19th. Bookflix is an interactive program that pairs fiction and nonfiction text for pre-readers and readers from preschool through third grade. BookFlix has digital book pairings arranged around topics such as Animals and Nature, ABC s and 123 s, or Celebrations. Each pair of books also includes activities, a brief biography of the author, and a lesson plan to assist parents and educators. Many of the books included in the database, such as Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, and Diary of a Fly, are also popular titles available in the library! TrueFlix is a resource for elementary aged students that encourages them to learn more about nonfiction topics in a variety of subject areas. Using Scholastic s popular True Book series, each topic begins with a video that introduces the subject to build background knowledge and includes a digital version of the full text of the True Book title. Each title also includes an explore more feature that directs readers to related content that can be used to learn more about the topic. Let your young reader learn about the California Gold Rush, Malala Yousafzai, the Undersea World, and more from the convenience of your computer or device! To access BookFlix and TrueFlix, go to Select Resources from the menu bar. Select Power Library from the drop-down menu. Select Power Library again. E-Resources are listed alphabetically. Scroll to either BookFlix or TrueFlix and select to link to the E-Resource. If you are accessing the E-Resource in the library, you will automatically be directed to the site. If you are accessing the E-Resource outside the library, you will be asked for your Grove City Community Library card number.
