1 Rover Dramawerks Season Yes Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus by Andrew J. Fenady December 2-18, 2005 Inspired by a letter written over 100 years ago by 8-year-old Virginia O'Hanlon to the editor of the New York Sun: "Dear Editor, I am eight years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says if you see it in the Sun, it's so. Please tell me the truth. Is there a Santa Claus?" The Sun's editor gives the assignment of answering Virginia's letter to Frank Church who, until his wife and baby died last Christmas Eve, was the Sun's best and most dependable reporter. His quest and timeless reply have become one of the world's most quoted and beloved editorials. a co-production with Frisco Community Theatre, 7775 Camellia Lane in Frisco The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 by John Bishop January 19 - February 11, 2006 First combine a mansion complete with sliding doors and secret passages, a small-time comedian with an endless supply of bad jokes, the zany creative team for a new musical, and a blizzard cutting them off from the outside. Then throw in an Irish tenor, a sinister German maid who may or may not be dead, and the stage door slasher. The result is a side-splitting comedy (or is it a mystery?) complete with musical numbers! originally scheduled for last season, this production will be at the ArtCentre Theatre of Plano Rover Dramawerks presents Agatha Christie s Love From a Stranger adapted by Frank Vesper April 2006 A young woman who has recently won the lottery enters into a whirlwind romance and marriage with a handsome stranger. But all is not as it appears, and eventually she realizes that her new husband is trying to murder her. Will she be able to stop him in time? Adapted from Agatha Christie's short story "Philomel Cottage." Woman In Mind by Alan Ayckbourn July/August 2006 After getting knocked out by stepping on the end of a garden rake, Susan, a housewife married to a boring cleric experiences hilarious hallucinations in which her everyday life is replaced by a fantasy where she is an ideal wife and mother with a perfect family. While her real family treats her with condescension and apathy, her fantasy family dresses in lovely white, always drinks champagne and plays tennis, lives in a stately home, and tells her that she is wonderful. Eventually, the fantasy family becomes nightmarish and Susan begins to realize that she is going mad. Our audience choice production! The Crucible by Arthur Miller Auditions: August 13 at 2:00 pm & August 15th at 7:30 pm Performances: September 30, October 1, 6, 7, 8, 14, 15, 16 First of all, I have to admit that I know nothing of being a parent. I am Ben Marcus. I have little desire to be a parent. The responsibility, unselfishness and the sacrifice that it takes to be a parent whether willing or unwilling are far too great for me to comprehend or even entertain at this point in my life. The Unprepared attempting at the Impossible for the sake of the Ungrateful. Fathers, Mothers, my hat is off to you! The love and unselfishness that you extend to your children, without any guarantee of return, is something that I hope to someday experience. This is one of the reasons that I jumped at the opportunity to direct this play call it an investigation, an experiment, an exercise. I call it a great learning experience. I am very grateful to a wonderful cast, script and production team, each of which has helped me make some sense out of the chaos that is parental sacrifice and obligation. Little Footsteps is, in my opinion, an exploration of fear, which to me is the most abstract and confusing human emotion. At times it may be hard to put a finger on exactly what it is that we fear, we may not recognize where anxieties about a certain situation come from until we face them. And when we face that fear we often times will back away several times before taking that first step. How many times did you watch the double loop roller coaster of death at the local theme park and say, no way, not for a million dollars before you were actually running back to the front of the line and daring to raise your hands as your front row seat screamed down the first big hill and skyward into that very same loop that you had for so long dreaded? Okay, so I digress.. Whatever the challenge, the fear, the insurmountable odds, it takes just one step to start your journey toward conquering your fear. It is how you motivate and encourage yourself to take that first step that truly makes you who you are and what you are to become. At man's core there is a voice that wants him never to give in to fear. But if it is true that in general man cannot give in to fear, at the very least he postpones indefinitely the moment when he will have to confront himself with the object of his fear... when he will no longer have the assistance of reason as guaranteed by God, or when he will no longer have the assistance of God such as reason guaranteed. It is necessary to recoil, but it is necessary to leap, and perhaps one only recoils in order to leap better. Georges Bataille , French Novelist David Nail

4 Who s Who Ron L. Chapman (Gil) is pleased to be a part of this production and to work with Terrie, Joslyn, and Rick. Thanks David and staff for including me. Some of his favorite roles are: Buffalo Bill Cody (Annie Get Your Gun); Lord/Merchant (The Taming of the Shrew); Applebee (The Fantasticks); Tevye (Fiddler on the Roof); Charlie Brown (You re a Good Man, Charlie Brown); Emile DeBecque (South Pacific) and Cowardly Lion (Wizard of Oz). As a playwright/songwriter, two of Ron s musicals, Warehouse and Jim and Della, The Gift of the Magi, have been produced locally. Mostly, Ron knows how fortunate he is to have the love and support of his wife, Lynn, the kids, and the grandkids. Rick Dalton (Ben) is excited to return to stage and to make his debut with Rover Dramawerks in Little Footsteps. For the past several years, Rick has mostly been away from local theatre and has been happily playing the role of Daddy. Prior, Rick has performed at numerous area theatres including Garland Civic Theatre, Irving Community Theatre, Plano Repertory Theatre, various Dallas theatres, and most recently as Willum in Richardson Theatre Centre s production of The Nerd. Joslyn Justus (Joanie) This is Joslyn s debut with Rover Dramawerks and first role since graduating from Austin College with a Communication Arts/Theatre degree. Joslyn has appeared as Aunt Bella in Lost in Yonkers, Annelle in Steel Magnolias, Vagina Monologues three years running, as well as various other shows over the past few years. She is very excited to be working with this cast and crew, and wants to thank her friends and family for all their love and support. Terrie Justus (Charlotte) Charlotte has most recently appeared in The Pitch, and Amy s Last Shift with Rover s Best of One Day Only at Frisco Community Theatre. Previously with Rover, she portrayed Ora, the sound foley, in two productions of War of the Worlds, appeared in Greasy Spork, at WaterTower s Out of the Loop Festival, and in Lady Windermere s Fan. She has also performed in Bucket Productions Picnic, played Mrs. Pert in Garland Civic Theatre s Look Homeward Angel, and Clairee in Rockwall Community Playhouse s production of Steel Magnolias. She is delighted to be back on stage working with her daughter, Joslyn! Special Thanks Little Footsteps would not have been possible without the generous contributions of the following: Addison Conference and Theatre Centre Autumn Jackson Carol Abram and Amazing Events Frisco Community Theatre Greater Lewisville Community Theatre Onstage in Bedford Bill and Terrie Justus Runway Theatre Lea Danielson Special Event Accent Lighting Amber and Russell Sebastian Rachel and Nathan Nowlin Marti Jutte Liberty Christian School Angie Logal Jason Rice The Nor kirk Presbyterian Vista Ridge Church of Christ The many cast and crew of Rover Dramawerks who have volunteered their time and/or donated their stipends back to the company. Shoppers at Albertson s, Kroger, and Tom Thumb who have chosen Rover Dramawerks as their Shopping Partner. (See the next page for how YOU can help!) And a VERY special thanks to our season sponsors: Rover Dramawerks would especially like to thank for helping us achieve a longtime goal of providing child care and discounted tickets to parents with young children for the July 30 and August 6 (matinee) performances of Little Footsteps. THANK YOU!

You can catch another sample of David s directing work this October at Runway Theatre in Grapevine when he takes on Wait Until Dark by Frederick Knott. David would like to thank everyone that has made this production a success, and especially Robin, Russell and Jeremy it wouldn t have happened without all of your hard work and dedication. Thanks always to Jessica for your patience and support. Jeremy Ferman (Assistant Director) is excited to be involved with his first show for Rover Dramawerks. Since graduating from Midwestern State University in 1999, Jeremy has been very busy working in area theatres on and off stage. You may have seen his directing work at Grapevine s Runway Theatre or ONSTAGE in Bedford. Currently he is pursuing a job teaching theatre to high school kids in the area. Jeremy would like to thank the cast for working their tails off, David for the opportunity to help with Little Footsteps and Russell for being a constant, positive force for all of us. Russell Sebastian (Stage Manager) Recently, Russell worked alongside both David and Jeremy as Stage Manager for a production of Rumors at Runway Theatre in Grapevine. He has appeared on stage as Johnson in Hitchcock s Bull in a China Shop. Russell also serves as Publicity Director on the Board of Directors for Runway Theatre. Alongside live performances, Russell has an affinity for computers; he loves merging his interests by creating DVDs of shows in which he has been involved. Most importantly, he is extremely thankful for his wonderfully talented wife Amber, who made re-entering theater a gratifying possibility. Rover Dramawerks Board of Directors: Carol M.
