1 Summer Assignment for Incoming Third Graders Math Students will need to login to their MobyMax account to complete at least two 20 minute sessions every week. They may work in the following sections for credit: Math Fact Fluency Your child s login will be: Username: [firstname]lecs Password: lecs123 Example: Username: alyssalecs Password: lecs123 Please note: Mobymax typically archives accounts on their site on July 31st, which means your child may have to take another placement assessment on August 1st.
2 Reading Incoming third graders will have two reading assignments to complete: READ- Read at least 3 chapter books from 3 different authors/series that have 80 pages or more. CREATE- My Life as a Reader collage of your reading life Directions: Using regular poster board or a tri-fold display board crate a collage of facts and pictures that describe your reading life. You will use this poster to present your reading life to your classmates during the first week of 3 rd grade. To meet minimum expectations: Your name clearly written across the top, center of your poster in large print. Display your name so that all viewers know exactly whose reading life it is! Your two favorite authors names written on the poster with a short explanation that explains your choice (writing style, the characters, the genre, the illustrations) Book title, author and brief summary of 2 books that you read over the summer. Also include whether you would recommend these books to someone to read and why. At least two favorite book titles/series, along with the author s name. At least 2 places that you enjoy reading. Use pictures and words to vividly describe these places (example: outside under the large oak tree in my backyard because it is a quiet, shady spot. I love the way our leaves rustle when the wind blows.) Your favorite time of day to read. Use pictures and words to explain why this is a good reading time for you. Your two favorite genres with characteristics that define the genre. Explain what you enjoy about the genre (Genre examples: mystery, realistic fiction, science fiction, historical fiction, adventure, humor, non-fiction, biographies, memoirs, graphic novels) At least 5 photographs or colored drawings To exceed minimum expectations: Include photographs of you reading in your favorite reading places!
