Name: Date: Period: Overview: There is so much information and material to discuss in the WWII unit that we are providing you with the opportunity to explore topics that interest you! This WWII Activities Board project consists of 16 choice assignments and you need to choose four to complete. We will have six full days in class to work on this project and you will have about 7 weeks at home to work on it. You need to be responsible with your time and divide up the project appropriately. FINAL DUE DATE: Short Story Write a fictional and creative short story explaining what the world would be like today if the Nazis had won Interview conduct an interview with a family member or friend who served or lived through WWII Diary Choose a character and write three entries describing major aspects of the war from a specific national perspective Military Hardware Research the aircraft, ships, or tanks and create a visual presentation to present the information WWII Battle Map Describe a major battle from WWII and draw a large battle map Timeline Create an illustrated timeline of the major events of WWII Yearbook Create a yearbook identifying the major politicians, generals, and individuals from WWII Video Tape yourself giving an impassioned speech about a major WWII event Play Write a script about a major topic during WWII Biography Choose a significant person and write a biographical review of this person and their significance Graphs and Data Create graphs showing civilian and soldier casualties, injured, money spent, and a description of total war Editorial Write dueling editorials about Japanese internment or the use of the atomic bomb Historical Newspaper Write reactions to major events such as Pearl Harbor, D-Day, or the use of the atomic bomb Song Write about WWII to the tune of a popular song showcasing what you have learned Propaganda posters/ Political cartoons Create posters advertising support for the war effort and explain how America mobilized for war Children s Book / Comic Book Create an illustrated book describing a major event from WWII

2 Final Project: When you turn in your final project, please adhere to the following requirements: Do not repeat specific topics in your four assignments Your name needs to be on all assignments Hand in all final assignments in a two pocket folder On one side of folder will be your final assignments and the other side will include the description sheets and rubrics to be used for grading Name, date, and period needs to be written on the folder cover **In lieu of a folder, for ten points extra credit you could also create a WWII website where all of your project components would be displayed** Project Selection: Please choose four projects from the options above. Once selected, please take a more detailed description from the front table. If you have an option of topics, do not repeat specific topics! Each assignment is worth 20 points, for a total of 80 points. How would life in America be different? What would it be like to grow up in a world where Hitler had won? Be creative! Or do you have a family member who can talk about their parent or grandparent s experience? Take the opportunity to interview someone in your family and learn what they remember about the war. Rather than a written interview, if you have the opportunity and capability, I would encourage you to video tape or record the interview so you can share with your children and other family members. Preserve your family s history!! You have the option of either choosing three characters and writing three entries from different perspectives, or choosing one character and writing three entries from the same perspective. However, for either option, you need to choose three different topics to write about. Your diary needs to describe the historical event and your specific reaction to it. 7 Name: S.S. 221 Date: Period: MILITARY HARDWARE Description: For this assignment you will be researching the aircraft, ships, tanks, radar, sonar, and other military equipment that was developed and used during WWII. You will pick three specific pieces of military equipment and research what they looked like, their purpose, their effectiveness, and what missions they fulfilled during the war. Using the information you will create some sort of visual presentation. You can choose a PPT presentation, a brochure, a Microsoft Publisher newsletter, or a video slideshow. 8 Name: S.S. 221 Date: Period: WWII BATTLE MAP Description: For this assignment you will be choosing two significant battles in WWII and creating a battle map to visually display the battle. Your map needs to show a zoomed out location of Europe or Asia as well as a zoomed in look at the battle itself. The zoomed out map should be labeled with the date and include labels for each country, and each country should be colored Axis or Allied. The location of the two specific battles should be labeled with a star on your zoomed out map. (To be clear, you only need one zoomed out map to cover both of your battles). For the smaller, zoomed in map of your specific battle, you should label key bodies of water, cities, and landmarks. Depending on your battle, you can add additional labels; just make sure there is a map key. Beneath each battle map you need to include a one paragraph description of the battle, the outcome, and the overall significance. You will need to choose between 15 and 20 events to include in your timeline and then correctly display them in chronological order. Each event should be accompanied by an illustration, either drawn or printed. Each event needs a 2 sentence description that includes what it is and why the event is important. The timeline can be created on the computer, created by hand, displayed in a brochure format, or small poster format.
