4 Writing a Crime Novel in the Digital Age Jim Ronson is a golfer, was a mechanic, a teacher, an avid traveller and is now a computer technician and author, with a passion for writing. As many crimes nowadays are cyber crimes, his recently released novel, Power and Possessions, combines characters from the high stakes gaming world with the fine art world. Then he added a murder. He read us a few pieces of his new book, the part about a bank robbery. He sourced some of this information from his wife who was working in a bank when it was robbed and he also visited Millhaven Penitentiary in Bath, Ontario and spoke to prisoners that were bank robbers. He has read many books in researching for his book, 10 of which on archaeology alone. He stated he needs to know how his book will start and end before he starts writing while some authors build on their characters as they write. He ended his presentation by stating that we need to embrace technology but not lose our commune with nature. World Junior A Challenge ( WJAC ) Our speakers for November 26 th were Marc Mercier, Governor of the Cobourg Junior A Hockey Club and lawyer, and Jerry Ouellette, Chair of the 2015 World Junior A Hockey Championships and current owner of Northern Vintages China which sells Canadian products into China. They were accompanied by Ashley Haynes who is co-ordinating the Cobourg venue for this upcoming event. This is the 10 th anniversary for WJAC and the first time it will be held in Ontario, in Whitby as well as Cobourg. This will have a large economic impact for these areas as there will be many people coming to see these events. Players for this event are some 230 draft picks and more than 70% will move on. In the past some Cobourg Cougars have played for Team Canada (Justin Danforth, Dawson Theede and Theo Lewis, for example). Teams include Canada West (they will be staying in Cobourg), Canada East, USA, Czech Republic, Russia and Switzerland. The Cobourg Community Centre will be center stage for this event as it is a stateof-the-art facility. Games will be held daily from December 13 th to 18 th and the final game Gold on December 19 th. Volunteers may still be needed and you can contact Ashley through the Cobourg Community Centre. Tickets (packages available) can be purchased at the Cobourg Community Centre or at Jim Ronson and President Bob Gibson I am a Seenager (Senior Teenager): I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, but 60 years later: I don t have to go to school or work. I get an allowance every month. I have my own pad. I don t have a curfew. I have a driver s license and my own car. I have ID that gets me into bars and the LCBO. And I don t have acne. Life is great. 4 Marc Mercier, Jerry Ouellette and Ashley Haynes

Every day, I walk down the street and tell passers-by what I have eaten, how I feel, what I have done the night before and what I will do for the rest of the day. I give them pictures of my wife, my daughter, my dog and me gardening and on holiday, spending time by the pool. I also listen to their conversations, tell them I like them and give them my opinion on every subject that interests me, whether it interests them or not. And it works. I already have four people following me: two police officers, a social worker and a psychiatrist.
