Taking place from 18 to 20 May in various locations, the festival aims to provide a new platform for both emerging and wellknown artists to perform, collaborate and meet a new audience. This festival is for grooving and represents a wide variety of music styles, from Acoustic Folk and Afro Jazz, Reggae and Dub to House, Hip Hop and Electro by artists from Brazil, Angola, Japan, Portugal/Cape Verde South Africa, Zimbabwe, Swaziland and of course Mozambique. AZGO 2012 also includes a Film Festival on 16 and 17 May which will screen a number of music documentaries at Arte no Parke in Parque dos Continuadores, kicking off on 16 May at 19h00 with the film Punk in Africa, a Czech/South African production from Entrance is free for the film festival. The concept of the AZGO FESTIVAL was created by musician and producer Paulo Chibanga, well known over Africa and Europe as drummer for the bands 340ml and Tumi and the Volume. Last year s festival was a very successful series of concerts at Mafalala Libre Bar in Maputo over three weeks in May AZGO is old Maputo slang for let s go... let s go revisit our cultures and heritage, let s meet, exchange and interlink with other countries, let s promote art and diversity. AZGO 2012 is part of a new Southern African Festival Route which also includes the Bushfire Festival in Swaziland on May and the Sakifo Festival on Reunion Island on 1 3 June and aims to continue and grow in the future. Plans for AZGO 2013 which were revealed at a press conference on 15 May include a series of workshops with international and local musicians to further encourage intercultural exchange.
