6 Bits and Bytes Accessing OverDrive Over the last few months, library staff have received inquires as to how to sign in to their OverDrive account. The following outlines the procedures to sign in to OverDrive, reasons access to your account may be restricted, and a link to helpful information and FAQ for setting up OverDrive and Libby on various devices. To sign in to OverDrive, you will need your library card barcode and your last name, as it is recorded in our library system. Your library card barcode is located on your library card and begins with the letter P. It is followed, in most cases, by a space and up to five (5) numbers. When asked for your library card number, you must enter the capital letter P, the space (if present), and all the numbers. If your library card barcode is P 156, you would enter P 156. If your library card barcode is P17835, you would enter P Next, enter your last name. Make sure you enter your last name as you would write it, capitalizing accordingly. If your last name is Smith, you would enter Smith. If your last name is McJones, you would enter McJones. If you try to sign in to OverDrive using the above guidelines and you receive a message saying invalid credentials, please verify the following: When entering your library card number, verify that you are entering a capital P (not lowercase) and that you are entering a space, if present., between the P and the number Some library cards have a space, some do not. If you are unable to distinguish if your card has a space, please don t hesitate to try entering the library card number with the space and without the space, or give us a call to verify if your card number has a space. Next, verify that you are entering your last name as you presented it to us when you registered for your library card, capitalizing appropriately. If your name has changed, please bring proof of your name change to the library so that we may update your account. If you are positive that you have entered your name correctly, please call the library so that we can verify that we have it entered in our system correctly. You will NOT be able to sign in to OverDrive if any of the following apply to your account: Your library card is expired. If this is the case, you must bring proof of address and your card to the library so that we can update it. You have a charge over $5.00 on your account. You must come to the library and pay your account below $5.00 in order to use OverDrive. You currently have an item that is past due on your account. You must call or stop by the library to see if we are able to renew your item(s). Please note, we are unable to renew an item if it is on hold for another patron. Please refer to the following online resource to help you get started with either OverDrive or Libby: If at any time you have any questions, please don t hesitate to call. If you need hands on assistance setting up or accessing OverDrive, please stop by the library during our Drop-In Tech Hour every Wednesday from 1:00 2:00 p.m. or call to schedule an appointment time that works with your schedule.
