1 Grove City Community Library 125 W Main St Grove City, PA Phone March 2019 Newsletter March 2019 Volume 13, Issue 3 Library Hours Monday and Friday 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. IS IT SPRING YET? By Scott Amon As the days grow longer, I m waiting for tips of grass to start poking through the receding snow. When you walk into the library, telltale signs of Spring are starting to show. The plants scattered throughout the library are beginning to look a bit greener. Soon some of the plants might have a flower or two! Have you noticed that Tortellini, our library turtle, has seemed a bit lazy the past few months? Although turtles do not hibernate, they do slow down in the colder months. Now that Spring is on its way, Tortellini can be found swimming laps in her tank trying to burn off all that winter fat. Feel free to stop by to see her on your next visit to the library! Since warmer weather is almost here, it s time to stop in and enjoy some of our amazing programs! In the month of March alone, the library will be hosting several events for all ages and interests. For instance, on Saturday, March 30th, the library will be holding an Adult Prom from 6:00 9:00 in the evening. This free event is only for adults 21 and up, so watch out, you may be carded at the door! March is the month for St. Patrick s Day and a great time to try out our monthly Pub Trivia on March 28th at 6:00 p.m. Bring some food and drinks and have a great time! Knowledge of the trivia theme is not required. Since I personally attend college within walking distance of the library, I have begun to notice that my walks are becoming much more enjoyable with the milder weather. I believe Spring is here! Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Saturday Hours 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Closed Sunday MARCH ADULT PROGRAMS March 4th March 6th March 11th March 13th March 14th March 20th March 20th March 25th March 25th March 27th Writers Group Drop-In Tech Hour Monday Night Book Club Drop-In Tech Hour Knitting & Crochet Group Mystery Lover s Book Club Drop-In Tech Hour Science Fiction Book Club Cooking the Books Drop-In Tech Hour Don t forget to move your clocks forward an hour for Daylight Savings Time (DST) on March 10th at 2:00 a.m.! 8 Bits and Bytes Searching Evolve Evolve, the library catalog, allows for many different search options to help you find both the physical titles in our library and the electronic titles available to you through our various online platforms. To start your search, go to and select Search the Catalog button. What are you looking for? Type it in the Enter Search Criteria field. Is it a title or author? If so, select either title or author from the dropdown menu. You can also choose to search by keyword, subject, series, Accelerated Reading, and All. A keyword search searches your search word(s) in all fields (title, author, series, subject, notes) giving you a larger results list. A subject search uses a controlled vocabulary, so unless you are certain of the correct subject heading, you may end up with zero (0) results. If you choose Accelerated Reading for your search, you will be prompted to select the AR level range you want. The Accelerated Reading search can be used to not only find items in our collection that meet your child s school AR reading requirements, it can also be used to limit your results for titles that meet a certain reading range. After you choose your search term, you have the option to limit the time period of your search. You can search All Time periods, New Items (added to the collection) within 7 days, New Items within 30 days, or New Items within 90 days. The next two search options let you limit your search results even further by form and collection. If you want to search for Large Print fiction books only, you would select Large Print from the form drop-down menu and Large Print Fiction from the collections dropdown menu. After you have chosen your search criteria, select the Search button and your results list will be displayed. If your search returns a results list with too many results, try your search again limiting your search by time period (if applicable), form, and/or collection. If your search returns too few results, try your search again by expanding your search to keywords, all time periods, all forms and all collections. If at any point you need assistance with your search, please don t hesitate to ask a staff member. We will be happy to assist!
