Erica Jurus, veteran adventure traveller for over 35 years, will tell you what you need to know, from researching and planning a great trip to how to find trips that don t require a second mortgage, and much more. Erica has organized and led several group trips, served as a private consultant for travellers, and delivers regular presentations about getting out to experience amazing places around the world. Tuesday, November 21 2:00 pm Central, Mills Room Niagara Regional Public Health TAMI Presentation TAMI (Talking about Mental Illness) is a presentation, co-delivered by a Niagara Public Health employee, and an individual who is living with a mental illness. The presentation will focus on raising awareness about mental health and mental illness. An emphasis is placed on stigma reduction and healthy coping. The individual who is living with a mental illness will talk about: their experiences; what it was like when the symptoms of mental illness first developed; where they went for support; and how they are currently coping. Adult Crafting Circle Knitters, crocheters and needle-workers of all skill levels are invited to join the Library s Adult Crafting Circle, held twice a month. Explore the Library s crafting collections and share current projects with others. Experienced crafters are invited to bring current projects, while new knitters and crocheters are asked to bring a ball of worsted weight yarn and 5mm knitting needles or crochet hook. The Past and Future of Imaginary Worlds Dr. Alex Christie We seem to be spending more and more time in imaginary worlds: whether in virtual reality, on social media, or even chasing after Pokémon. Why do we find ourselves increasingly sucked into imaginary versions of the present, be they virtual reality games or news bubbles? Moving from 3D maps of twentieth-century literature to the fabricated realities of twenty-first century media, Dr. Alex Christie will discuss the rise of imaginary worlds and their tendency to spill over into the real world. August to December The Myths, the Legends and the Controversies The events that occurred during these 5 months have been overshadowed by the battles of 1916, 1917 and Jim Doherty, president of the Niagara Military Museum, will take a fresh look at the first 5 months of World War One and their effect on the remaining 47 months. He will also look at the recent rethink of the start of the war and the Blame Game. What is BOOKS TO GO? The Library is installing a cabinet at the Seymour- Hannah Arena that will contain a variety of library materials that can be borrowed. In order to borrow materials from this mini-library patrons would need to be 12 years or older, have a valid St. Catharines Public Library card and know their PIN, typically the last 4 digits of their phone number. What is HOLDS TO GO? The Library is installing a cabinet at the Seymour- Hannah Arena that will contain holds. When Library patrons place holds on materials in the Library s online catalogue they will be able to request that their holds be shipped to the Holds cabinet at the Seymour-Hannah Arena. In order to access the cabinet and pick-up their holds patrons will need to have a valid St.Catharines Public Library card and know their PIN, typically the last 4 digits of their phone number. BOOKS TO GO and HOLDS TO GO cabinets will be in the main entrance of the Seymour-Hannah Arena (240 St Paul St. W) and will be accessible during the open hours of the arena. The arena is open daily 6:30 am to 12:15 am. Note: Seymour-Hannah may close early without advance notice, if there are no ice rentals. 14 14 CONVERT YOUR VHS TAPES TO DVDs You can now convert your personal VHS tapes to DVDs at the Central Library. The entire VHS tape or selected segments can be converted. Please note that the equipment will perform the conversion but it cannot change or improve upon the image on the VHS tape. Commercially produced tapes cannot be converted.
