The individual who is living with a mental illness will talk about: their experiences; what it was like when the symptoms of mental illness first developed; where they went for support; and how they are currently coping. Adult Crafting Circle Knitters, crocheters and needle-workers of all skill levels are invited to join the Library s Adult Crafting Circle, held twice a month. The Past and Future of Imaginary Worlds Dr. Alex Christie We seem to be spending more and more time in imaginary worlds: whether in virtual reality, on social media, or even chasing after Pokémon. Why do we find ourselves increasingly sucked into imaginary versions of the present, be they virtual reality games or news bubbles? Moving from 3D maps of twentieth-century literature to the fabricated realities of twenty-first century media, Dr. Alex Christie will discuss the rise of imaginary worlds and their tendency to spill over into the real world. When Library patrons place holds on materials in the Library s online catalogue they will be able to request that their holds be shipped to the Holds cabinet at the Seymour-Hannah Arena. In order to access the cabinet and pick-up their holds patrons will need to have a valid St.Catharines Public Library card and know their PIN, typically the last 4 digits of their phone number. BOOKS TO GO and HOLDS TO GO cabinets will be in the main entrance of the Seymour-Hannah Arena (240 St Paul St. W) and will be accessible during the open hours of the arena. The arena is open daily 6:30 am to 12:15 am. Note: Seymour-Hannah may close early without advance notice, if there are no ice rentals. New members are always welcome. 3D Public Printing Want to design your own jewellery or make a case for your smartphone? 3D printing is now available to the public. Bring in your 3D design file (.stl,.obj or.thing) on a USB drive and staff will print it for you. Cost of printing is $5.00+HST for all prints up to and including 30 grams of filament, plus an additional $0.15 for each additional gram.
