We are excited to announce that OverDrive will return as ebccls vendor just in time for the Summer season! And with OverDrive s return comes their new and improved, one-tap app Libby. Check out an ebook or eaudiobook with Libby s simplified interface and start reading. And Kindle e-ink users, rest assured that OverDrive continues to support your devices. Read about Libby s features at: ebccls will be transitioning from CloudLibrary to OverDrive during the next few weeks. While the transition takes place, there will be limited material available on OverDrive but we expect all ebccls materials to be available for checkout or hold by Memorial Day weekend. Watch for updates as more information on the timeline becomes available. Libraries Rock! Registration for the Summer Reading Program begins June 1st Readers of all ages will explore all things musical this summer as we present Libraries Rock!, during our summer library program. Children who join the summer program keep their minds active and enter school in the fall ready to learn and succeed. Activities include games, musical crafts, art projects, science and engineering experiments, and more! The summer program kicks off on Wednesday, June 20th at 7 pm with comedian and juggler Jester Jim, a program for the entire family. 3 Noteworthy News Adult Summer Reading by Molly McKenney Reference Librarian Are you looking to get credit for all the books you read on the beach or listen to in the car on the way to work? Do you want a chance to win exciting prizes? Join the 3rd annual Adult Summer Reading club, which will run from June 1st August 31st. There is no required reading, anything goes! It promises to be even bigger and better than last year! Every book you read (or audiobook you listen to) will count towards an entry in our weekly raffle, and you can earn extra entries by completing the activities listed on the website. Questions? Borrow a Mobile Wireless HotSpot Mobile hotspot routers are available for USR library cardholders to borrow. Get the connectivity you need for your laptop, tablet or a digital camera by creating your own mobile hotspot virtually anywhere with our mobile router. It s perfect for those temporarily without internet access, going on vacation, or taking their business on the road. The lending period is for two weeks. See the device policy at the circ. desk for full details. Must be over 18 yrs. with a valid USR library card. Traveling? Take a Kindle along. The USR library has Kindle Paperwhites, pre-loaded with fiction/non-fiction, best-sellers and current popular titles for adults. These devices loan out for one week at a time. Navigating Key Genealogy Websites TUESDAY May 15th 7 8:30 pm We welcome back professional genealogist, Anthony Lauriano, who will give a page by page discussion on how to easily find many different family records on major Genealogy websites. Attendees will learn how to utilize key websites in the comfort of their own home. He will also show how to effectively use the postal system to obtain vital records. There will be a question and answer period. Registration is required. Author: Richard Muti THURSDAY May 3rd 7 8:30 pm Local author Richard Muti joins us for a discussion and book signing of The Charmer: The True Story of Robert Reldan Rapist, Murderer, and Millionaire and the Women who Fell Victim to his Allure. Robert Reldan, a handsome, personable charmer of the Ted Bundy mold, had an engaging, friendly smile that promised a charming personality and inspired trust. A smile that would, over the next 20 years, cause a dozen unsuspecting women to drop their guard and place themselves under the power a ruthless criminal. Richard Muti spent 19 years as a successful trial prosecutor and has taught at three New Jersey universities. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Harvard Business School, and Rutgers Law School, as well as a former Navy pilot and former mayor of Ramsey, NJ. Due South is one of New Jersey s top country bands, performing hits from artists such as Brooks and Dunn, Dierks Bentley, Lady Antebellum, Sugarland, and Keith Urban to name just a few. They also cover music from legendary performers like Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash. Please park at the Hopper-Goetschius House or Lions Park. Concert is sponsored by the Friends of the USR Library and USR Recreation Department. Mah Jongg Tournament Sunday, May 20th at 10 am 4:30 pm Calling all Mah Jongg players: The Friends of the Upper Saddle River Library are hosting a Mah Jongg tournament fundraiser at the USR Library. The cost to participate is $45 per person and includes 6 rounds of play and lunch. Prizes will be awarded and all proceeds benefit the Friends of the USR Library. Questions? Tuesdays, May 15th & June 3 pm Thursdays, May 17th & June 6 pm Open to 6th graders and above who are looking for community service hours. Then participate in this free program and read 1,000 books with your child before he or she begins kindergarten! 1. Register at the children s desk at the USR library. Pick up your log and recommended reading lists. 2. Start logging your books on paper or on the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten app (itunes or Android). 3. Bring your log to the library at each milestone (50, 100, 200, 300, etc.) to receive a reward and be featured on our display. 4. Any child who reaches 1,000 books will have his/her picture posted on the BCCLS website (with your permission) and be invited to a BCCLS wide party. There is no begin or end date for this program.
