1 The Book Ball Book Report Egyptian Tales: The plot on the pyramid Terry Dreary Due Date: 1 st day of school You will read the assigned book and then put your knowledge and creative skills into action. You will create a 12-sided Book Ball that incorporates each one of the elements below. The Ball can be made out of printer paper or construction paper in any color of your choosing. You need to remember to do all of your writing and decorating on the paper within the pentagon before you cut and fold the circles. You may add any decorations or drawings to any unused space on the paper. Directions: 1. Print 12 circle patterns of the Bloom Ball. (Attached below) 2. Do not write or draw on the edges outside of the lines. They will be folded and used to connect your ball. 3. Follow the directions below for each circle. Write information NEATLY in each circle. Be sure to write complete sentences and check your spelling! 4. Pictures must be colored no markers, please! 5. When you are finished writing and coloring, write the number on the bottom of each circle, cut out the circles and assemble your ball by gluing the folded edges together (refer to assembly instructions on back). The sides are as follows: Circle 1 Title Write the title and author of the book in the circle. Arrange the lettering to use up the entire space. Be creative! Include your first and last name at the bottom. Circle 2 AUTHOR Research the author of the book. Write a complete paragraph describing at least four facts about the author. Who is he? When was he born? How did he begin writing? Circle 3 Vocabulary Authors often use vocabulary that relates to the topic about which they are writing. What new words have you learned while reading the story? Create a three-column table. Write the word in the first column, the part of speech in the second and the meaning in the third. Choose 5 words. Circle 4 Main character Describe the main character. Include both physical and personality characteristics in your description. Write a paragraph. Circle 5 Picture of main character Draw a picture of the main character.

2 Circle 6 Setting On this circle, you will draw a picture of the setting of the story based on the descriptions given in the book. Make sure to include and label key locations. Make sure to include color! Circle 7 Summary Write a summary of the book in 5 sentences. Circle 8 Letter Write a letter to the main character. What would you want to say to them? What questions do you have for them? Do you think they should have done something differently? Circle 9 Poem Write a poem (any type, 10 lines or longer, does not have to rhyme) about the story, a certain character, or a favorite scene. Think about the figures of speech you have taken. Circle 10 Different ending In one paragraph, write a different ending to the story. Circle 11 THEME A theme is the author s message to the reader. Theme is not what happens in the story; it is ideas about life. In a paragraph or two, explain what you think the theme, or central idea or moral is. Think about what the character learned about life. What is the author trying to teach the reader about life? Circle 12 RECOMMENDATION Write a complete paragraph stating your opinion of the book. What do you think about the characters, setting, plot, or theme? Tell why you would or would not recommend this book to a friend. Be sure to support your opinions with reasons. Making the Book Ball When all sides and decorations are complete: - Carefully cut out the 12 circles, - Fold the crescents on the lines around the circle so that the folds are standing up or facing up. - Align the crescent of one circle to the crescent of another and staple them together (glue might come unglued). Each crescent will be stapled to a different circle s crescent all the way around to create a ball.

3 How to Put Your Bloom Ball Together Preparation Choose a panel to be the base. Select 5 panels to staple to this base. Lay them out, consider the orientation, and staple the sides together. Repeat with the remaining 6 panels. Mid-Way After stapling the panels to the two bases and to each other, you should have two halves. Finishing Staple the two halves together to create the dodecahedron, your completed Bloom Ball. *Be sure that all edges are facing up and are framing your pictures or paragraphs! *Use any artistic techniques you d like. The more creative and visually/intellectually stimulating, the better your grade will be. Of course, you must fulfill the side requirements first. *Use the template provided for the project; you cannot make it bigger or smaller. *You can download this doc and type directly onto it if you d like.
