4 Bienvenidos a Kids Learn! Querida familia: Bienvenidos a Kids Learn! Getting Ready for 4th Grade. El cuarto grado será un año emocionante con bastantes nuevas oportunidades educativas. Por ejemplo, su hijo aprenderá cómo escribir párrafos complejos, multiplicar y dividir fracciones y comparar decimales. Nuevos temas interesantes en ciencias y estudios sociales también mantendrán a los estudiantes involucrados en las lecciones escolares. Kids Learn! fue diseñado para ayudar a consolidar los conceptos que su hijo aprendió en el tercer grado y ayudar a su hijo a prepararse para el año que viene. Las actividades están basadas en los Estándares comunes del estado (Common Core State Standards) y proveen práctica con las destrezas esenciales para el nivel de ese grado. Mantener a punto las destrezas que su hijo aprendió en el tercer grado mientras su hijo está de descanso de la escuela ayudará a que el año del cuarto grado comience de gran manera. También hay una sección al final del libro que provee práctica para los exámenes estandarizados. Tenga estos consejos en cuenta mientras completa junto con su hijo el libro Kids Learn!: Reserve un tiempo específico todos los días para trabajar en las actividades. 5 Things to Do at Home To Develop Healthy Habits Make sure your child gets adequate exercise during the day. Three hours of exercise, spread out over the course of the day, will keep your child healthy and ensure that he or she will sleep well at night. Take time to set up a schedule with your child. Post the schedule for your child and other caregivers to review. Make homework a nightly priority. Everyone in the family can work quietly or read around the table during homework time. To Practice Reading Make a list of things you want your child to do each day or week. Have your child read the list and provide simple rewards for following directions and completing the tasks. Press the mute button on the TV and turn on closed captioning. Have your child read the dialogue for his or her favorite TV show. Have your child read the entertainment section of the newspaper to gather ideas for a family activity for the weekend. 14 Entrenador de escritura Escritura previa Es la etapa de debate, donde se conversa y se anotan las ideas o palabras claves. Borrador La gramática y la puntuación pasan a segundo plano; lo importante en esta etapa es acomodar las ideas mientras se escribe el borrador. Revisión Mientras revisa, el autor puede elaborar, condensar o reorganizar el borrador. A veces el proyecto toma una dirección completamente nueva durante esta etapa. Edición El escritor prudente sabe que editar significa prestar mucha atención a la puntuación, la ortografía, la gramática, las transiciones y la fluidez. Publicar y compartir Publicar puede ser tan fácil como dar forma final a la escritura para ser compartida. Ponga el escrito en una carpeta, agregue una ilustración y asegúrese de que el texto esté pulido. Ya está listo para ser compartido con amigos y familiares! Una última idea... 16 Among the hustle and bustle, a young man named Zeyd was racing through the Bazaar. He darted nimbly through the crowds at the market. He had a job to do. Zeyd skipped between pots and jumped over sleeping dogs. He ran through the furniture market. The whole time, he held tightly onto a delivery until he stopped outside a rug stall. Here you are, Akel, said Zeyd breathlessly. The delivery from the food market. Thank you, Zeyd! replied Akel. Come join me for flatbread! Every day, Zeyd helped the merchants of the Bazaar. He would run from one end to the other, through all sixty-four streets, collecting packages or trading goods. In return, Zeyd would receive breakfast, lunch, and supper. Sometimes, he was even given blankets or clothing. 4 5

17 Once, a kind merchant gave him a precious jewel! But since Zeyd saw no point in trinkets, he traded the jewel for some of his favorite pastry, baklava. Zeyd said goodbye to Akel after they had shared their meal. He began to walk to the Street of Jewels. The jewel merchants often needed his help, as they trusted Zeyd. Suddenly, Zeyd noticed something strange a stack of rugs was moving mysteriously. Zeyd looked more closely. It was Bahir the monkey, rummaging about. 6 7
