The film's characters have become universal symbols of good and bad. Phrases like 'May the Force be with you' have entered the English language, and it has had a huge influence on other films. There are several reasons for the film's importance. Firstly, it used different genres in one film. Star Wars was a science fiction film but it was also an adventure film. Many of the film's ideas also came from westerns. Secondly, it was one of the first films to use computer-generated special effects successfully. Thirdly, it was one of the first big summer films.
