1 2017 SEASON ABERDEEN COMMUNITY THEATRE presents WEDNESDAY-SATURDAY, AUGUST 16-19, 7:30 PM through SUNDAY, AUGUST 20, 2:30 PM YOUR COMMUNIT Y. YOUR THEATRE.

2 FROM THE ARTISTIC/ MANAGING DIRECTOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS Warren Redmond, President Curt Wischmeier, Vice-President Ann Rasmussen, Treasurer Kathy Stuck, Secretary MEMBERS AT LARGE Linda Batteen, Vicki Lust, Gregg Magera and Barb Evans Rory King, Legal Counsel STAFF James L. Walker, Artistic/Managing Director Brian T. Schultz, Associate Artistic/Managing Director Gary Darling, Marketing Director/Office Manager Steven Huber, Box Office Manager Charlotte Grandpre, Technical Assistant ACT is a proud member of the American Association of Community Theatre info@aact.org Interested in acting or directing but don t have a lot of time? Have a great script you d love to see on stage? Contact ACT at (605) or ACT@NVC.net Support is provided with funds from the State of South Dakota through the Department of Tourism and State Development and the National Endowment for the Arts Office of Arts 800 Governors Drive Pierre, SD In State DONALD H. HALL, Co-Founder of ACT Honoree of ACT s Donald H. Hall Scholarship, assisting ACT volunteers attending NSU. For more information or to contribute to this scholarship endowment fund, contact ACT at (605) Welcome to Exit Laughing. First of all, I want to thank you for attending this performance. It is not typical that we would be doing a show on the same dates as the Brown County Fair, and we know everyone loves the fair. We were originally trying to get the show ready to perform last week, before the fair; however, volunteer schedules didn t allow for the rehearsals needed to mount the show those dates, and next week we have the theater committed to South Dakota Public Broadcasting, screening The Vietnam War, the new documentary by Ken Burns. After that, it s Labor Day weekend and ACT will be needing to be starting on our next production. Never a dull moment here at the Capitol Theatre. With that clarification, since I know patrons were wondering why over the fair?, I m pleased to announce we will be producing The Addams Family a new musical of family fun, which we will be performing just before Halloween, providing volunteer schedules allow. So again, thanks for coming to this performance, and if you like the show, spread the word while you re enjoying the Brown County Fair. Exit Laughing is a show that was part of the American Association of Community Theatre (AACT) new play festival the first year they sponsored the event, Since then it has had several productions throughout the country. I met the playwright, Paul Elliot at the national festival, AACTFest 2017, at the end of June. After that conversation, I confirmed we would produce the show. We hope you enjoy the efforts of our ACT volunteers. Speaking of volunteers, I want to welcome Christine Ward-Hatton, from La Moure, ND, as our newest volunteer. I appreciate all the volunteers who make up each Aberdeen Community Theatre production, but commuting to Aberdeen from North Dakota six days a week deserves special recognition. By the way, speaking of volunteers, auditions for The Addams Family, are scheduled for Sunday and Monday, September 10 and 11 at 7 pm here at the Capitol Theatre. So, come prepared to be one of the Kooky, Ooky, Spooky Addams Family of characters. See page 11 of this program for a full list of characters, then come join the fun. Also, check out www. AberdeenCommunityTheatre.com for more audition information. I want to thank you, again, for your support. If you have not contributed this season, or could be of additional help, please use the back page of the program. It is only with your individual support that we can keep the productions and programs growing here at the Capitol Theatre. The ticket price does not take care of all the expenses here at the Capitol Theatre and we have not met our annual goal to continue funding the programs here at the historic Capitol Theatre. We are dependent on your annual contributions. Thanks for your help. As always, let us know what you think of the productions by the volunteer actors, and technicians here at Aberdeen Community Theatre. Their getting in the act make these productions possible. Please support them with your contribution today. I wish each of you the best as we wind down the remainder of the summer. Thanks again for your support. JAMES L. WALKER 2

3 ACT gratefully acknowledges the following organizations and individuals for gifts and pledges received for the 2017 season. Your Contributing Support is essential to managing the daily operating costs of the Capitol which includes electricity, gas, upkeep, janitorial, etc. It is only through your generous support that ACT can continue to maintain the Capitol Theatre on Aberdeen s historic Main Street while continuing our artistic growth.
