This year s audition process ill occur ithin one day on Saturday, May, In this packet, you ill find a detailed schedule of our audition process, audition exercises and music, and ansers to frequently asked questions. Ho do I register to audition for the UGA drumline? There are three important steps to this process: Audition Schedule 1. Fill out the UGA Redcoat Band s online memership application at 2. Pay the audition fee at Fill out the UGA Redcoat Drumline Audition form at IsERE9l1. Please note that since audition times vary y section, those auditioning could potentially participate in every session throughout the entire day. Therefore, those auditioning should plan on a day from 9:00 a.m. to 9:0 p.m. 9:00 a.m. 12:0 p.m. Snare Drum Quad Drum auditions Please arrive y 8: a.m. for this session Those ishing to audition for snare drum or quad drums should attend this session. Cuts ill e made hourly until these sections are set at the conclusion of the lock. If difficult decisions require additional time, potential memers of the snare andor quad sections could e asked to return for further evaluation after the lunch reak. Those not earning memership in these sections are urged to audition for other sections ithin the ensemle. 12:0 1:0 p.m. Lunch on your on 1:0 :00 p.m. Drum and Front Ensemle auditions

Cuts ill e made hourly until the section is set at the conclusion of the lock. Where? Audition fee? Auditions ill take place at UGA s Hugh Hodgson School of Music located at 20 River Rd, Athens, GA Upon arrival, potential memers ill report to the and room located on the first floor. After a rief informational meeting at the eginning of each audition segment, the audition process ill egin. Potential memers, returning and ne, must pay a non-refundale audition fee of $1.00. The fee must e paid y deit or credit card at prior to the audition. What do I ring? Potential memers should ring appropriate playing implements----snare drum sticks, quad mallets sticks, ass drum mallets, andor keyoard mallets. Additionally, ecause the numer of those auditioning could exceed the amount of instruments oned y the Redcoat Band, e ask those auditioning for snare drum andor quad drums to please ring your on instruments if possile. It is not necessary to ring ass drums, field cymals, or keyoard instruments. Ho ill I e evaluated during the audition process? Evaluations take place in an ensemle setting. Hoever, you should also expect to demonstrate your skills individually. Potential memers are evaluated on their consistency in technique and sound quality as ell as tempo control and rhythmic accuracy. What ill I e asked to play during the audition?

So that potential memers reading and quickness in learning can e evaluated, additional materials may e handed out on the day of auditions and utilized during the evaluation process as ell. 4 The 2018 University of Georgia Redcoat Band Front Ensemle Audition Materials Potential memers auditioning for the Front Ensemle should prepare and memorize the folloing exercises and etudes in this packet: Glory Beats 2.0 Space Timing Red Scales, in ALL major and minor keys Broccoli Michi 2016 Sho Chunk Potential memers should expect to perform these exercises (from memory) oth individually and ithin a group setting. During preparation, pay attention to the marked tempo ranges ut rememer speed is only one consideration in the evaluation. It is important to note that the front ensemle utilizes the Lee Hoard Stevens four-mallet grip only. There ill e no to-mallet portion to the audition. All exercises and etudes ill e performed hile holding four mallets. In addition to preparing the preceding six exercises and etudes, potential memers should also prepare a one- to three-minute marima or viraphone solo that est displays one s skill set. Excerpts from indoor, drum corps, or marching and shos are also acceptale. For the audition, all mallets and instruments ill e provided. Potential memers are elcome, hoever, to ring their on mallets if they prefer. Rememer, additional materials may e handed out and utilized during the audition process. Portions of the audition could require potential memers to demonstrate advanced skills andor understand concepts of asic music theory.
