3 She graduated from Capilano University last May with a Bachelor in Motion Picture Arts. She also loves directing and finding talent in actors and storytelling. That s why this project was perfect. It encapsulated everything she loved. It ended up being her final project and exam at Capilano University. Check it out! Message of thanks I was born and brought up in Goa. I came for the Goa Vancouver Picnic. It was wonderful. Thank you for organizing this. It takes a lot of every one's precious time. I hope the rest of the people also appreciate all the good work you guys do. I am a dad with three little kids and do not have any time to give in between two jobs. So am grateful to wonderful people like you who organize these events. Thank you. Elroy Fernandes Congratulations! Thanks again to all the many hardworking volunteers especially Maurice again for being there so early to decorate the park! Thanks also to the vendors, to DJ Paul and Doris and to our MC, Crystal Menezes for keeping the events moving at such a nice pace! In the news Melanie Faye Melanie chose to study film as she used to sit and imagine music videos and choreography in her head all day while listening to music as a kid. In high school, she was into acting so being on set introduced her to that. Corey Correa and Charisse Fernandes tied the knot recently and made their proud parents, Noel and Roxanne Correa and former GOA Vancouver Presidents Ernie and Celine Fernandes very, very happy! Both Corey and Charisse have been very active in the YGOA and in helping out on the main GOA committee as well! Health Warning According to a Harvnerd University Study, when you drink vodka over ice, it can give you kidney failure. When you drink rum over ice, it can give you liver failure. When you drink whiskey over ice, it can give you heart problems. When you drink gin over ice, it can give you brain problems. Apparently, ice is really bad for you. Please warn all your friends! Pg. 3
4 Don t Miss These Happenings! Sun sets on boozy Goa beach parties Tourists looking to sample Goa's famous boozy full moon beach parties may soon find themselves falling foul of the law as India's party state clamps down on public drinking. Following a partial ban on public consumption and intoxication in the western state, chief minister Manohar Parrikar warned he would issue a notification by next month to end drinking in all public places. He said: "If someone wants to drink, they should drink inside and not in public places. In the next 15 days, I will hold meetings with government officials to ban the consumption of liquor at public places." In recent years many in the Indian tourist trade have noticed an apparent attack on their livelihoods. As one commenter on a Times of India report on the proposed ban wrote: "Say bye bye to Goa tourism " A recent booze ban on any establishment within 500 metres of a major road or highway has decimated revenues of many large hotels and restaurants. Political observers have frequently commented on what is seen as a crackdown on "Western" or "non-indian" activities by the nationalist BJP government, from nightlife to celebrating Valentine's Day.
