5 ABOUT THE DIRECTOR EDWARD ZADROZNY serves as Director of Brass Chamber Music at the Cleveland Institute of Music after having served as Professor of Trombone, a member of the Paragon Brass Quintet and Brass Section Chair at The University of Akron for 35 years. A native of Northeast Ohio, Zadrozny holds degrees in music from The Ohio State University and the University of Illinois. He has studied trombone with Ernest Miller, Merritt Dittert, Allen Kofsky, Louis Van Haney, Jack O. Evans, Milt Stevens and Robert Gray. Additionally, Zadrozny also received training as a fellow at The Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood (1974). In addition to being the former Principal Trombone of both the Akron Symphony Orchestra ( ) and The Naples Philharmonic ( ), Zadrozny has also spent one season as a substitute member with The Philadelphia Orchestra ( ). From , Zadrozny served as the first call substitute trombonist with The Cleveland Orchestra. Zadrozny has toured and recorded with the Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic and The Cleveland Orchestra. He has also performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony, Columbus Symphony, Pro Musica (Columbus), Detroit Concert Band, Cleveland Symphonic Winds and Blossom Festival Band. Zadrozny s prior teaching experiences include Lawrence University (Conservatory of Music), The National Music Camp at Interlochen, Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and the International Trombone Association Workshop. Zadrozny can be heard performing with the High Anxiety Bones on their CD entitled Too Scared to Play (Albany Records). Zadrozny is a Trombone Artist/Clinician for Conn-Selmer. ~ ~ ~

6 ABOUT THE COACHES RICHARD KING joined The Cleveland Orchestra in 1988 at age 20 as associate principal horn. He served as principal horn from , and now sits as a section member. King has been featured many times as soloist with the Orchestra, including works by Britten, Haydn and Mozart. He has also appeared as soloist with the Richmond Symphony, Tokyo Symphony and New Zealand s Auckland Philharmonia. A native of Long Island, New York, King began playing the horn at the age of 9 and spent six years as a student of Arthur Green. He then attended the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where his primary horn teacher was former Cleveland Orchestra principal Myron Bloom. An active chamber musician and recitalist, King has performed as a member of the Center City Brass Quintet since 1985; their five recordings on the Chandos label have been met with wide critical acclaim. His albums of Chamber Music for Horn and Schubert Lieder transcribed for horn and piano have been released by Albany Records. In July and August of 2014, he was a first-time participant at the Marlboro Music Festival. King is a member of the faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Kent/Blossom Music Festival professional training program. He plays a Conn 8D horn and is a clinician for the Conn-Selmer musical instrument company. He lives in Cleveland Heights with his wife Julie, a cellist, and their children, Charlie and Amelia. ~ ~ ~ MICHAEL MILLER began his tenure as fourth trumpet of The Cleveland Orchestra with the 2006 Blossom Festival season. A native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Mr. Miller previously served as principal trumpet of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra from Prior to that, he served as the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra s second trumpet for eight seasons. He previously held positions in the Savannah Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional in the Dominican Republic and OSN in Ecuador, where he performed and taught as a Fulbright grantee. He has been a featured soloist with the

7 Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra and University of North Carolina at Charlotte Wind Ensemble, and has performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Opera and Stuttgart Ballet. Mr. Miller has been a member of the music faculties at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Queen s University and University of South Carolina. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Baldwin Wallace College and a Master of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. His teachers include James Darling (retired member of The Cleveland Orchestra), Eugene Blee, Philip Collins, James Thompson and Larry Black. ~ ~ ~
