This watch does not have a time zone that corresponds to the Greenwich Mean Time differentia of 3.5 hours. Because of this, the radio-controed timekeeping and Word Time functions wi not dispay the correct time for Newfoundand, Canada. Keep the watch exposed to bright ight The eectricity generated by the soar ce of the watch is stored by a buit-in battery. Leaving or Bright ight using the watch where it is not exposed to ight causes the battery to run down. Make sure the watch is exposed to ight as much as possibe. When you are not wearing the watch on your Soar ce wrist, position the face so it is pointed at a source of bright ight. You shoud try to keep the watch outside of your seeve as much as possibe. Charging is reduced significanty if the face is covered ony partiay. The watch continues to operate, even when it is not exposed to ight. Leaving the watch in the dark can cause the battery to run down, which wi resut in some watch functions being disabed. If the battery goes dead, you wi have to re-configure watch settings after recharging. To ensure norma watch operation, be sure to keep it exposed to ight as much as possibe. Normay, your watch shoud show the correct time as soon as you seect your Home City code. If it does not, it shoud adjust automaticay after the next auto receive operation (in the midde of the night). You aso can perform manua receive or you can set the time manuay. The watch wi receive the time caibration signa automaticay from the appicabe transmitter (in the midde of the night) and update its settings accordingy. For information about the reationship between city codes and transmitters, see Time Caibration Signa Reception and Transmitters. See the maps under Approximate Reception Ranges for information about the reception ranges of the watch. Under factory defaut settings, auto receive is turned off for a of the foowing city codes: HKG (Hong Kong), HNL (Honouu),and ANC (Anchorage). For detais about turning on auto receive for these city codes, see To turn auto receive on and off. You can disabe time signa reception, if you want. See To turn auto receive on and off for more information. Time Caibration Signa Reception There are two different methods you can use to receive the time caibration signa: auto receive and manua receive. Auto Receive With auto receive, the watch receives the time caibration signa automaticay up to six times a day. When any auto receive is successfu, the remaining auto receive operations are not performed. For more information, see About Auto Receive. Manua Receive Manua receive ets you start a time caibration receive operation with the press of a button. For more information, see To perform manua receive. Important! When getting ready to receive the time caibration signa, position the watch as shown in the nearby iustration, with its 12 o cock side facing towards a window. This watch is designed to receive a time caibration signa ate at night. Because of this, you shoud pace the watch near a window as shown in the iustration when you take it off at night. Make sure there are no meta objects nearby. 12 o cock Make sure the watch is facing the right way. Proper signa reception can be difficut or even impossibe under the conditions isted beow. Inside or among buidings Inside a vehice Near househod appiances, office equipment, or a mobie phone or Near a construction site, airport, or other sources of eectrica noise Near hightension power ines Among or behind mountains Signa reception normay is better at night than during the day. Time caibration signa reception takes from two to seven minutes, but in some cases it can take as ong as 14 minutes. Take care that you do not perform any button operations or move the watch during this time. The time caibration signa the watch wi attempt to pick up depends on its current Home City code setting as shown beow. Home City Code LON, PAR, BER, ATH HKG*, TYO, SEL HNL*, ANC*, LAX, DEN, CHI, NYC Transmitter Anthorn (Engand) Mainfingen (Germany) Fukushima (Japan) Fukuoka/Saga (Japan) Fort Coins, Coorado (United States) Frequency 60.0 khz 77.5 khz 40.0 khz 60.0 khz 60.0 khz * The areas covered by the HKG, HNL, and ANC city codes are quite far from the time caibration signa transmitters, and so certain conditions may cause probems with signa reception. Reception is not performed if a caibration time is reached whie you are configuring settings. Auto receive of the caibration signa is designed to be performed eary in the morning, whie you seep (provided that the Timekeeping Mode time is set correcty). Before going to bed for the night, remove the watch from your wrist, and put it in a ocation where it can receive the signa easiy. 2

3 The watch takes from two to 14 minutes to receive the time caibration signa whenever a caibration time is reached. Do not perform any button operation within 14 minutes before or after any one of the caibration times. Doing so can interfere with correct caibration. Remember that reception of the caibration signa depends on the current time in the Timekeeping Mode. The receive operation wi be performed whenever the dispay shows any one of the caibration times, regardess of whether or not the dispayed time actuay is the correct time. About the Receiving Indicator The receiving indicator shows the strength of the caibration signa being received. For best reception, be sure to keep the watch in a ocation where signa strength is strongest. The receiving indicator is dispayed whie an auto or manua receive operation is in progress. Receiving indicator Weak (Leve 1) Strong (Leve 5) Even in an area where signa strength is strong, it takes about 10 seconds for signa reception to stabiize enough for the receiving indicator to indicate signa strength. Use the receiving indicator as a guide for checking signa strength and for finding the best ocation for the watch during signa receive operations. Foowing reception of the time caibration signa and caibration of the watch s time setting, the Leve 5 receiving indicator wi remain on the dispay in a modes. The Leve 5 receiving indicator wi not be dispayed if signa reception was unsuccessfu or after you adjust the current time setting manuay. The Leve 5 receiving indicator is dispayed ony when the watch is abe to receive both time and date data successfuy. It does not appear when ony time data is received. The Leve 5 receiving indicator indicates that at east one of the auto caibration signa receive operations was successfu. Note, however, that the indicator disappears from the dispay each day at the start of the first auto receive operation of the day. To perform manua receive Receiving 1. Enter the Receive Mode. 2. Pace the watch on a stabe surface so its 12 o cock side is facing towards a window. 3. Hod down D for about two seconds unti RC starts to fash on the dispay. Time caibration signa reception takes from two to seven minutes, but in some cases it can take as ong as 14 minutes.take care that you Receive successfu do not perform any button operations or move the watch during this time. If the receive operation is successfu, the reception date and time appear on the dispay, aong with the GET indicator. The watch wi enter the Receive Mode if you press D or if you do not perform any button operation for about one or two minutes. Receive faied If the current reception fais but a previous reception was successfu, the dispay shows the previous reception s date and time, and the ERR indicator. indicates that none of the reception operations have been successfu during the current date. The watch wi enter the Receive Mode without changing the time setting if you press D or if If there was a previousy you do not perform any button operation for successfu reception about one or two minutes. Press A to exit the setting screen. For information about city codes that support signa receive, see To specify your Home City. To check the atest signa reception resuts Enter the Receive Mode. When receive is successfu, the dispay shows the time and date that receive was successfu. indicates that none of the reception operations were successfu. To return to the Timekeeping Mode, press C. Signa Reception Troubeshooting Check the foowing points whenever you experience probems with signa reception. Probem Probabe Cause Cannot perform The watch is not in the Receive manua receive. Mode. Your current Home City is one that does not support signa reception. Auto receive is turned on, but the Leve 5 receiving indicator does not appear on the dispay. Time setting is incorrect foowing signa reception. You changed the time setting manuay. You changed the DST setting of your Home City in the Word Time Mode. You pressed a button whie signa receive was in progress. Even if receive is successfu, the Leve 5 receiving indicator disappears from the dispay each day when the first auto receive operation of the day is performed. Time data (hour, minute, second) ony was received during the ast receive operation. The Leve 5 receiving indicator appears ony when time data and date data (year, month, day) are both received. If the time is one hour off, the DST setting may be incorrect. The Home City code setting is not correct for the area where you are using the watch. What you shoud do Enter the Receive Mode and try again. Seect one of the foowing as your Home City: LON, PAR, BER, ATH, HKG, SEL, TYO, HNL, ANC, LAX, DEN, CHI, or NYC. Perform manua signa receive or wait unti the next auto signa receive operation is performed. Check to make sure the watch is in a ocation where it can receive the signa. Change the DST setting to Auto DST. Seect the correct Home City code. For further information, see Important! under Time Caibration Signa Reception and Radio-controed Atomic Timekeeping Precautions. Barometer/Thermometer This watch uses a pressure sensor to measure air pressure (barometric pressure) and a temperature sensor to measure temperature. You can caibrate the pressure sensor and the temperature sensor if you suspect that readings are incorrect. To take barometric pressure and temperature readings Barometric pressure graph Temperature Pressure differentia pointer Barometric pressure Pressing B in the Timekeeping Mode or Atimeter Mode enters the Barometer/ Thermometer Mode and starts barometric pressure and temperature measurements automaticay. It can take up to four or five seconds for the barometric pressure reading to appear after you enter the Barometer/Thermometer Mode. Barometric pressure is dispayed in units of 1hPa (or 0.05 inhg). The dispayed barometric pressure vaue changes to xxxx hpa (or inhg) if a measured barometric pressure fas outside the range of 260 hpa to 1100 hpa (7.65 inhg to inhg). The barometric pressure vaue wi reappear as soon as the measured barometric pressure is within the aowabe range. 3

4 Temperature is dispayed in units of 0.1 C (or 0.2 F). The dispayed temperature vaue changes to xxx C (or F) if a measured temperature fas outside the range of 10.0 C to 60.0 C (14.0 F to F). The temperature vaue wi reappear as soon as the measured temperature is within the aowabe range. In some areas, barometric pressure is expressed in miibars (mb) instead of hectopascas (hpa). It reay makes no difference, because 1hPa = 1mb. You can seect either hectopascas (hpa) or incheshg (inhg) as the dispay unit for the measured barometric pressure, and Cesius ( C) or Fahrenheit ( F) as the dispay unit for the measured temperature vaue. See To seect the temperature, atitude, and barometric pressure units. See Barometer and Thermometer Precautions for important precautions. Barometric Pressure Graph Barometric pressure indicates changes in the atmosphere. By monitoring these changes you can predict the weather with reasonabe accuracy. This watch takes barometric pressure measurements automaticay every two hours (at the top of each even-numbered hour), regardess of its current mode. Measurement resuts are used to produce barometric pressure graph and barometric pressure differentia pointer readings. The barometric pressure graph shows readings of previous measurements for up to 24 hours. The horizonta axis of the graph represents time, with each dot standing for two hours. The rightmost dot represents the most recent reading. The vertica axis of the graph represents barometric pressure, with each dot standing for the reative difference between its reading and that of the dots next to it. Each dot represents 1hPa. The foowing shows how to interpret the data that appears on the barometric pressure graph. A rising graph generay means improving weather. A faing graph generay means deteriorating weather. Note that if there are sudden changes in barometric pressure or temperature, the graph ine of past measurements may run off the top or bottom of the dispay. The entire graph wi become visibe once barometric conditions stabiize. The foowing conditions cause the barometric pressure measurement to be skipped, with the corresponding point on the barometric pressure graph being eft bank. Not visibe on the dispay. Barometric reading that is out of range (260 hpa/mb to 1,100 hpa/mb or 7.65 inhg to inhg) Sensor mafunction Barometric Pressure Differentia Pointer This pointer indicates the reative difference between the most recent barometric pressure reading indicated on the barometric pressure graph, and the current barometric pressure vaue dispayed in the Barometer/ Thermometer Mode. Pressure differentia is indicated in the range of ±5 hpa, in 1-hPa units. The barometric pressure differentia pointer is not dispayed when the dispayed current barometric vaue is outside of the aowabe measurement range (260 to 1,100 hpa). Barometric pressure is cacuated and dispayed using hpa as the standard. The barometric pressure differentia aso can be read in inhg units as shown in the iustration. Barometric pressure differentia Pressure differentia exampes in the iustration are indicated in 3 hpa/0.1 inhg steps. inhg vaues hpa vaues Current pressure greater than most recent measured pressure Current pressure ess than most recent measured pressure About Barometric and Temperature Measurements Barometric pressure and temperature measurement operations are performed as soon as you enter the Barometer/Thermometer Mode. After that, barometric pressure and temperature measurements are taken every five seconds. You aso can perform a barometric pressure and temperature measurement at any time by pressing B in the Barometer/Thermometer Mode. Atimeter The watch s atimeter uses a pressure sensor to detect current air pressure, which is then used to estimate the current atitude based on ISA (Internationa Standard Atmosphere) preset vaues. You aso can specify a reference atitude, which the watch wi use to cacuate your current atitude based on the vaue you specify. Atimeter functions aso incude storage of measurement data in memory. You aso can measure the atitude differentia (change) from a specific reference atitude. Specifying the reference atitude is as simpe as pressing a singe button to reset the reference atitude to zero. Important! This watch estimates atitude based on air pressure. This means that atitude readings for the same ocation may vary if air pressure changes. The semiconductor pressure sensor used by the watch for atitude measurements aso is affected by temperature. When taking atitude measurements, make sure the watch is not subjected to temperature changes. To avoid the effect of sudden temperature changes during measurement, keep the watch on your wrist in direct contact with your skin. Do not rey upon this watch for atitude measurements or perform button operations whie sky diving, hang giding, or paragiding, whie riding a gyrocopter, gider, or any other aircraft, or whie engaging in any other activity where there is the chance of sudden atitude changes. Do not use this watch for measuring atitude in appications that demand professiona or industria eve precision. Remember that the air inside of a commercia aircraft is pressurized. Because of this, the readings produced by this watch wi not match the atitude readings announced or indicated the fight crew. How the Atimeter Measures Atitude The atimeter can measure atitude based on its own preset vaues, or a reference atitude specified by you. When you measure atitude based on preset vaues Data produced by the watch s barometric pressure sensor is converted to approximate atitude based on ISA (Internationa Standard Atmosphere) conversion vaues stored in watch memory. When you measure atitude using a reference atitude specified by you After you specify a reference atitude, the watch uses that vaue to convert the current measured barometric pressure vaue to atitude. When mountain cimbing, you can set the reference vaue in accordance with a marker B aong the way or atitude information from a map. After that, the atitude readings A produced by the watch wi be more accurate 400 than they woud without a reference atitude. Dispaying Your Current Atitude You can use the procedure described in this section to dispay your current atitude. If you eave the watch in the Atimeter Mode, it wi update the dispayed atitude vaue reguary, and indicate reading-to-reading changes in the atitude graph at the top of the dispay. The Atimeter Mode gives you a choice of four different dispay formats. The format you choose determines what type of data is dispayed. The Atimeter Mode screen can show any three of the foowing four items: atitude graph, atitude vaue, atitude differentia, and the current time. You aso can seect either of the foowing two atitude measurement types. 0 05: Readings at five-second intervas for one hour 2 00: Readings at five-second intervas for the first three minutes foowed by two-minute intervas for approximatey nine or 10 hours For information about configuring settings for the atitude reading interva and duration, see To seect the atitude measurement type. Important! The procedure in this section simpy dispays vaues indicating your current atitude, without storing them in watch memory. For information about recording atitude readings in watch memory, see Saving Atitude Data. To dispay your current atitude Atitude graph Current atitude Atitude differentia pointer 1. Press D in the Timekeeping Mode or Barometer/Thermometer Mode to enter the Atimeter Mode. The watch wi start atitude measurement automaticay, and dispay the resut. If you want to restart the atitude measurement operation at any point, press D. 3. To stop the atitude measurement operation, press C to exit the Atimeter Mode. 4

5 Notes Normay, dispayed atitude vaues are based on the watch s preset conversion vaues. You aso can specify a reference atitude, if you want. See Specifying a Reference Atitude. Atitude is dispayed in units of 5 meters (20 feet). The measurement range for atitude is 700 to 10,000 meters ( 2,300 to 32,800 feet). The measured atitude may be a negative vaue in cases where there is a reference atitude vaue set or because of certain atmospheric conditions. The dispayed atitude vaue changes to xxxx meters (or feet) if a measured atitude fas outside the measurement range. The atitude vaue wi be dispayed again as soon as the measured atitude is within the aowabe range. You can change the measurement unit for dispayed atitude vaues to either meters (m) or feet (ft). See To seect the temperature, atitude, and barometric pressure units. To seect the atitude measurement type 1. Saving Atitude Data An atitude data save session saves data in two different records: periodic records and a current session record. To start a new save session 1. Press D to enter the Atimeter Mode. 2. Hod down D for about one second unti REC fashes on the dispay, which indicates that a new session is in progress. After you start a save session, the watch starts saving periodic records every 15 minutes. See Periodic Records for more information. During a save session the watch aso updates the current session record. See Current Session Record for more information. Once you start a save session, measurement continues to be performed, and the REC indicator fashes on the dispay, even if you change to another mode. 3. To stop an ongoing save session, hod down D for about one second unti REC disappears from the screen. The save session aso wi stop automaticay when Periodic Record 40 is stored. You can reca saved records using the Data Reca Mode. Periodic Records Periodic records of up to 40 atitude readings are taken during a save session. You can use the Data Reca Mode to view these records. How periodic records are created and saved The foowing operation is performed simutaneousy with the operation described under How current session record data is updated. a. The watch creates Periodic Record 1 when you start a new save session. Periodic Record 1 contains the current date (month and day), time, and atitude. Each periodic record contains the current date (month and day), time, and atitude. b. After that, the watch takes readings and stores Periodic Records 2, 3, 4, and so on at minute 00, 15, 30, and 45 of each hour. c. After Periodic Record 40 is stored (or if you stop the save session manuay by hoding down D), the watch wi create a fina periodic record, which contains the current date (month and day), time, and atitude. Iumination may not turn on right away if you raise the watch to your face whie a barometric pressure or atitude measurement operation is in progress. Questions & Answers Question: How can the barometer be used to predict weather? Answer: Barometric pressure indicates changes in the atmosphere, and by monitoring these changes you can predict the weather with reasonabe accuracy. Rising atmospheric pressure indicates good weather, whie faing pressure indicates deteriorating weather conditions. The barometric pressures that you see in the newspaper and on the TV weather report are measurements corrected to vaues measured at 0 m sea eve. Question: How does the atimeter work? Answer: Generay, air pressure and temperature decrease as atitude increases. This watch bases its atitude measurements on Internationa Standard Atmosphere (ISA) vaues stipuated by the Internationa Civi Aviation Organization (ICAO). These vaues define reationships between atitude, air pressure, and temperature. Atitude Air Pressure Temperature 4000 m 3500 m 3000 m 2500 m 2000 m 1500 m 1000 m 0 m 500 m 616 hpa 701 hpa 795 hpa 899 hpa 1013 hpa About 8 hpa per 100 m About 9 hpa per 100 m About 10 hpa per 100 m About 11 hpa per 100 m About 12 hpa per 100 m 11 C 4.5 C 2 C 8.5 C 15 C ft ft inhg About 0.15 inhg per 200 ft 16.2 F ft 8000 ft inhg About 0.17 inhg per 200 ft 30.5 F 6000 ft 4000 ft inhg About inhg per 200 ft 44.7 F 0 ft 2000 ft inhg About 0.21 inhg per 200 ft 59.0 F Source: Internationa Civi Aviation Organization About 6.5 C per 1000 m About 3.6 F per 1000 ft Note that the foowing conditions wi prevent you from obtaining accurate atitude readings: When air pressure changes because of changes in the weather Extreme temperature changes When the watch itsef is subjected to strong impact There are two standard methods of expressing atitude: Absoute atitude and reative atitude. Absoute atitude expresses an absoute height above sea eve. Reative atitude expresses the difference between the height of two different paces. Height of buiding 130 m (reative atitude) Rooftop at an atitude of 230 m above sea eve (absoute atitude) Sea Leve Precautions Concerning Simutaneous Measurement of Atitude and Temperature Though you can perform atitude and temperature measurements at the same time, you shoud remember that each of these measurements requires different conditions for best resuts. With temperature measurement, it is best to remove the watch from your wrist in order to eiminate the effects of body heat. In the case of atitude measurement, on the other hand, it is better to eave the watch on your wrist, because doing so keeps the watch at a constant temperature, which contributes to more accurate atitude measurements. To give atitude measurement priority, eave the watch on your wrist or in any other ocation where the temperature of the watch is kept constant. To give temperature measurement priority, remove the watch from your wrist and aow it to hang freey from your bag or in another ocation where it is not exposed to direct sunight. Note that removing the watch from your wrist can affect pressure sensor readings momentariy. Power Suppy This watch is equipped with a soar ce and a specia rechargeabe battery (secondary battery) that is charged by the eectrica power produced by the soar ce. The iustration shown beow shows how you shoud position the watch for charging. Exampe: Orient the watch so its face is Soar ce pointing at a ight source. The iustration shows how to position a watch with a resin band. Note that charging efficiency drops when any part of the soar ce is bocked by cothing, etc. You shoud try to keep the watch outside of your seeve as much as possibe. Charging is reduced significanty if the face is covered ony partiay. Important! Storing the watch for ong periods in an area where there is no ight or wearing it in such a way that it is bocked from exposure to ight can cause rechargeabe battery power to run down. Be sure that the watch is exposed to bright ight whenever possibe. This watch uses a specia rechargeabe battery to store power produced by the soar ce, so reguar battery repacement is not required. However, after very ong use, the rechargeabe battery may ose its abiity to achieve a fu charge. If you experience probems getting the specia rechargeabe battery to charge fuy, contact your deaer or CASIO distributor about having it repaced. Never try to remove or repace the watch s specia battery yoursef. Use of the wrong type of battery can damage the watch. A data stored in memory is deeted, and the current time and a other settings return to their initia factory defauts whenever battery power drops to Leve 5 and when you have the battery repaced. Turn on the watch s Power Saving function and keep it in an area normay exposed to bright ight when storing it for ong periods. This heps to keep the rechargeabe battery from going dead. Battery Power Indicator and Recover Indicator The battery power indicator on the dispay shows you the current status of the rechargeabe battery s power. Battery power indicator Leve Battery Power Indicator (Charge Soon Aert) c Function Status A functions enabed. A functions enabed. The fashing LOW indicator at Leve 3 tes you that battery power is very ow, and that exposure to bright ight for charging is required as soon as possibe. At Leve 5, a functions are disabed and settings return to their initia factory defauts. Once the battery reaches Leve 2 after faing to Leve 5, reconfigure the current time, date, and other settings. Dispay indicators reappear as soon as the battery is charged from Leve 5 to Leve 2. Leaving the watch exposed to direct sunight or some other very strong ight source can cause the battery power indicator to show a reading temporariy that is higher than the actua battery eve. The correct battery eve shoud be indicated after a few minutes. 8
