2 Timekeeping You can adjust the Home city date and time in the Timekeeping Mode. Pressing A in the Timekeeping Mode wi togge the ower dispay between the screens shown beow. Home ate Home Time ay of the week A ay of the week To set the time and date code 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A for about two seconds unti SET appears on the ower dispay. This is the setting mode. Note that keeping A depressed too ong (for about fi ve seconds) wi cause a different type of setting mode to be entered E-53). 2. Use and B to seect the city code you want. Make sure you seect your Home code before changing any other setting. For fu information on city codes, see the ode Tabe at the back of this manua. The day of the week is dispayed automaticay in accordance with the date (year, month, and day) settings. ayight Saving Time (ST) ayight Saving Time (summer time) advances the time setting by one hour from Standard Time. Remember that not a countries or even oca areas use ayight Saving Time. To change the ayight Saving Time (summer time) setting ST 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A for about two indicator seconds unti SET appears on the dispay. Use to togge the ST setting on and off. ST off ( ) ST on ( ) The defaut ST setting is OFF ( ). 4. When the setting you want is seected, press A to exit the setting mode. The ST indicator appears to indicate that ayight Saving Time is turned on. 12-hour and 24-hour timekeeping With the 12-hour format, the PM indicator (P) appears on the ower dispay for times in the range of noon to 11:59 p.m. and no indicator appears for times in the range of midnight to 11:59 a.m. With the 24-hour format, times are dispayed in the range of 0:00 to 23:59, without the PM indicator (P). The 12-hour/24-hour timekeeping format you seect in the Timekeeping Mode is appied in a other modes. E-14 E-15 Thermometer This watch uses a temperature sensor to take temperature readings. To take a temperature reading 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, press to enter the Thermometer Mode and start a temperature reading operation. The fi rst temperature reading wi take about three seconds. After that, readings are taken at twosecond intervas for the fi rst two minutes, and then at two-minute intervas after that. The dispayed temperature wi be updated with each reading. Temperature 2. To stop the temperature reading operation, press to return to the Timekeeping Mode. The watch wi stop taking temperature readings and return to the Timekeeping Mode automaticay if you do not perform any operation for about one or two hours. Temperature Temperature is dispayed in units of 0.1 (or 0.2 F). The dispayed temperature vaue changes to (or F) if a measured temperature fas outside the range of 10.0 to 60.0 (14.0 F to F). The temperature vaue wi reappear as soon as the measured temperature is within the aowabe range. ispay Units You can seect either esius ( ) or Fahrenheit ( F) for the dispayed temperature vaue. See To specify the temperature unit E-21) for more information. E-16 E-17 Temperature Sensor aibration The watch s temperature sensor is caibrated at the factory and normay requires no further adjustment. If you notice serious errors in the temperature readings produced by the watch, you can caibrate the sensor to correct the errors. Important! Incorrecty caibrating the temperature sensor can resut in incorrect readings. arefuy read the foowing before doing anything. ompare the readings produced by the watch with those of another reiabe and accurate thermometer. If adjustment is required, remove the watch from your wrist and wait for 20 or 30 minutes to give the temperature of the watch time to stabiize. E-18 To caibrate the temperature sensor 1. Enter the Thermometer Mode, which wi start a temperature reading operation and dispay the resuts E-16). 2. Hod down A for about two seconds. Hoding down A wi initiay cause Hod to appear on the screen. Keep A depressed unti Hod disappears. This wi cause the temperature reading operation to re-start, and dispay the sensor caibration screen shown in the iustration nearby. 3. Use (+) and B ( ) to change the dispayed caibration by 0.1 (0.2 F) steps. To return the currenty f ashing vaue to its initia factory defaut setting, press and B at the same time. OFF wi appear in pace of the f ashing temperature vaue for about two seconds, foowed by the initia defaut vaue. 4. Press A to return to the Thermometer Mode screen and take temperature readings. 3 Thermometer Precautions Temperature measurements are affected by your body temperature (whie you are wearing the watch), direct sunight, and moisture. To achieve a more accurate temperature measurement, remove the watch from your wrist, pace it in a we ventiated ocation out of direct sunight, and wipe a moisture from the case. It takes approximatey 20 to 30 minutes for the case of the watch to reach the actua surrounding temperature. E-20 Specifying Temperature Unit Use the procedure beow to specify the temperature unit to be used in the Thermometer Mode. Important! When TOKYO is seected as the Home, the temperature unit is set automaticay to esius ( ). These settings cannot be changed. To specify the temperature unit 1. Whie the temperature sensor caibration screen is dispayed E-19), press to togge between the temperature units as shown in the nearby iustration. 2. Press to togge the temperature unit between (esius) and F (Fahrenheit). 3. After the setting is the way you want, press to exit the setting screen. E-21 Temperature Reading Precautions When taking temperature readings, it is best to remove the watch from your wrist in order to eiminate the effects of body heat. Remove the watch from your wrist and aow it to hang freey from your bag or in another ocation where it is not exposed to direct sunight. Tide and ata You can use the watch to check the current tide, phase, and age in your area. Basic cacuations to determine this data is performed based on your current Home setting E-11). You can aso check the tide and data in another ocation by temporariy seecting the appicabe city as your Home. Note that the tide and data cacuated by this watch are approximate and are intended as genera information ony. Never try to use it for marine navigation or any other purposes requiring accurate measurements. E-22 E-23 To view current tide and data Tide Graph The tide is indicated as shown on the next page. The current tide *1 and phase *2 are dispayed in the Timekeeping Mode E-8). *1 Shows the tide for the dispayed date and time. *2 Shows the phase for the dispayed date. The phase shows the phase at noon of the dispayed date. The current time does not affect the dispayed phase. High tide phase indicator s E-28, E-32) E-24 Low tide E-25 Viewing Tide and ata for a Particuar ate and Time In the Tide/ ata Mode E-8), you can view the tide and moon phase for a particuar date and time. You can aso view the appicabe moon age in this mode (which is not shown in the Timekeeping Mode). Tide ata Screen 1. Entering the Tide/ ata Mode dispays the Tide ata Screen and indicates the tide for the current date Month ay at 6:00 a.m. You can check the tide for another date by performing steps 3 through 5 beow before performing step 2. You cannot change the date whie the Tide ata Screen is dispayed. 2. Use to change the time setting. Each press of advances the time by one hour and cacuates tide data for that time. Note The margin of error for the age is ±1 day. If the data is not dispayed correcty, check the Timekeeping Mode date, time, and Home settings. 4 Operation Guide Adjusting the High Tide Time Use the foowing procedure to adjust the high tide time within a particuar date. You can fi nd out high tide information for your area from a tide tabe, the Internet, or your oca newspaper. E-30 To adjust the high tide time 1. In the Tide/ ata Mode, press to dispay the ata Screen E-27). 2. Press to scro the date unti one whose high tide time you want to change is dispayed. 3. Hod down unti the hour digits start to f ash. 4. Press (+) and ( ) to change the hour setting. 5. When the hour is the setting you want, press. Hour This wi cause the minute digits to f ash. 6. Press (+) and ( ) to change the minute setting. 7. When the minute setting is the way you want, press to exit the adjustment screen and return to the Tide/ ata Mode screen. Pressing and at the same time whie the time adjustment screen is dispayed (steps 4 through 7 above) wi return the high tide time to its initia factory Minute defaut setting. E-31 The high tide time setting is affected by the ST (summer time) setting of the Timekeeping Mode. On some days, there are two high tides. With this watch, you can adjust the fi rst high tide time ony. The second high tide time for that day is adjusted automaticay based on the fi rst high tide time. Reversing the ispayed Phase The eft-right (east-west) appearance of the depends on whether the is north of you (northery view) or south of you (southery view) as you view it. You can use the procedure beow to reverse the dispayed phase so it matches the actua appearance of the where you are ocated. To determine the viewing direction of the, use a compass to take a direction reading of the at its meridian passage. To reverse the dispayed phase 1. In the Tide/ ata Mode, hod down unti the hour digits start to f ash. 2. Press twice. This wi cause the phase indicator to f ash. This is the indicator switching screen. 3. Press to togge the phase indicator between the southery view (indicated by ) and northery view (indicated by ). Northery view: is north of you. Southery view: is south of you. 4. When the phase indicator setting is the way you want, press to exit the switching screen and return to the Tide/ ata Mode screen. E-32 E-33 Stopwatch You can use the stopwatch to measure eapsed time and spit times. The digita dispay range of the stopwatch is 999 hours, 59 minutes, seconds. The stopwatch continues to run unti you stop it. If it reaches the above imit, it wi restart the time measurement from zero. The stopwatch operation continues even if you exit the Stopwatch Mode. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Stopwatch Mode, which you enter by pressing E-9). Eapsed Time Measurement In the Stopwatch Mode, press to start and stop eapsed time measurement. Pressing whie eapsed time measurement is in progress wi dispay the current spit time. An ongoing eapsed time measurement operation continues even if you exit the Stopwatch Mode. ountdown Timer Seconds Start time (Hours : Minutes) You can set the countdown timer start time within a range of one minute to 24 hours. An aarm sounds when the countdown reaches zero. A of the operations in this section are performed in the ountdown Timer Mode, which you enter by pressing E-9). E-36 E-37 To use the countdown timer Press whie in the ountdown Timer Mode to start the countdown timer. When the end of the countdown is reached, the aarm wi sound for 10 seconds or unti you stop it by pressing any button. The countdown time is reset to its starting vaue automaticay after the aarm stops. Press whie a countdown operation is in progress to pause it. Press again to resume the countdown. To stop a countdown timer operation competey, fi rst pause it (by pressing ), and then press. This returns the countdown time to its starting vaue. To configure countdown start time settings 1. Whie the countdown start time is on the dispay in the ountdown Timer Mode, hod down for about two seconds unti the hour setting of the countdown start time starts to f ash. This is the setting mode. Start time (Hours : Minutes) Hoding down wi initiay cause Hod to appear on the screen. Keep depressed unti Hod disappears. If the countdown start time is not dispayed, use the procedure under To use the countdown timer E-38) to dispay it. 2. 5 Word Time urrenty seected Word Time Word Time Word Time digitay dispays the current time in one of 48 cities (29 time zones) around the word. A simpe operation swaps your Home with the currenty seected Word Time. The times kept in the Word Time Mode are synchronized with the time being kept in the Timekeeping Mode. If you fee that there is an error in any Word Time Mode time, check to make sure you have the correct city seected as your Home. Aso check to make sure that the current time as shown in the Timekeeping Mode is correct. Times in the Word Time Mode are based on UT offsets. See the ode Tabe at the back of this manua for information about the UT offsets that are supported. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Word Time Mode, which you enter by pressing E-9). E-40 To view the current time in another time zone In the Word Time Mode, use to scro through avaiabe city codes (time zones). Hoding down the button scros at high speed. The ower dispay shows the current time in the Word Time. To seect the UT time zone (ifferentia 0), press and at the same time. When the city code (time zone) you want is seected, you can press to dispay the date. After about one second, the watch wi resume reguar timekeeping for the currenty seected city. Seconds Hour : Minutes A One second ate E-41 To togge a city code time between Standard Time and ayight Saving Time ST indicator 1. In the Word Time Mode, press to dispay the city code (time zone) whose Standard Time/ayight Saving Time setting you want to change. 2. Hod down for about two seconds to togge between ayight Saving Time (ST indicator dispayed) and Standard Time (ST indicator not dispayed). Hoding down wi initiay cause Hod to appear on the screen. Keep depressed unti Hod disappears. The ST indicator is shown in the ower dispay whie ayight Saving Time is turned on. You can turn on ST individuay for each city code, except UT. Turning on ST for the city code that is currenty seected as your Home wi turn on ST for norma timekeeping. Swapping your Home and Word Time You can use the procedure beow to swap your Home and Word Time. This changes your Home to your Word Time, and your Word Time to your Home. This capabiity can come in handy when you frequenty trave between two cities in different time zones. To swap your Home and Word Time 1. In the Word Time Mode, use to seect the Word Time you want. 2. Press and at the same time unti the watch beeps. This wi make the Word Time you seected in step 1 your Home, and cause the hour and minute hands to move to the current time in that city. At the same time, it wi change the Home you had seected prior to step 2 your Word Time, and cause the content of ower dispay to change accordingy. After swapping the Home and Word Time, the watch stays in the Word Time Mode with the city that was seected as the Home prior to step 2 now dispayed as the Word Time. E-42 E-43 Aarms E-44 Aarm time (Hour : Minutes) When an aarm is turned on, the aarm tone wi sound when its aarm time is reached. One of the aarms is a snooze aarm, whie the other four are daiy aarms. You aso can turn on an Houry Time Signa that causes the watch to beep twice every hour on the hour. The snooze aarm screen is indicated by, whie the other aarm screens are numbered through. The Houry Time Signa screen is indicated by. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Aarm Mode, which you enter by pressing E-9). To set an aarm time 1. In the Aarm Mode, use to scro through the aarm screens unti the one whose time you want to set is dispayed. To set an aarm time, dispay the appicabe aarm screen ( through, or ). OFF is the houry time signa setting E-48). The snooze aarm operation repeats every fi ve minutes. 2. After you seect an aarm, hod down for about two seconds unti the hour setting of the aarm time starts to f ash. This is the setting mode. Hoding down wi initiay cause Hod to appear on the screen. Keep depressed unti Hod disappears. This operation turns on the aarm automaticay. E Press to move the f ashing between the hour and minute settings. 4. Whie a setting is f ashing, use (+) and ( ) to change it. 5. Press to exit the setting mode. Aarm Operation The aarm tone sounds at the preset time for 10 seconds, regardess of the mode the watch is in. In the case of the snooze aarm, the aarm operation is performed a tota of seven times, every fi ve minutes, or unti you turn the aarm off E-47). Aarm and Houry Time Signa operations are performed in accordance with the current time in your Home, as kept in the Timekeeping Mode. To stop the aarm tone after it starts to sound, press any button. Performing any one of the foowing operations during a 5-minute interva between snooze aarms cances the current snooze aarm operation. ispaying the Timekeeping Mode setting screen E-11) ispaying the setting screen E-45) To test the aarm In the Aarm Mode, hod down to sound the aarm. Turning on an aarm (,,, or ) dispays the aarm on indicator on its Aarm Mode screen. In a modes, the aarm on indicator is shown for any aarm that currenty is turned on. E-47 To turn the Houry Time Signa on and off 1. In the Aarm Mode, use to seect the Houry Time Signa ( ) E-45). 2. Press to togge it on and off. The Houry Time Signa on indicator is shown on the dispay in a modes whie this function is turned on. E-48 ON Houry Time Signa on indicator Iumination Auto ight switch indicator An LE (ight-emitting diode) iuminates the face of the watch for easy reading in the dark. The watch s auto ight switch turns on iumination automaticay when you ange the watch towards your face. The auto ight switch must be turned on (indicated by the auto ight switch indicator) for it to operate. See Iumination Precautions E-59) for other important information about using iumination. To iuminate the dispay manuay In any mode, press to turn on iumination. The above operation turns on iumination regardess of the current auto ight switch setting. You can use the procedure beow to seect either 1.5 seconds or 3 seconds as the iumination duration. When you press, the iumination wi remain on for about 1.5 seconds or 3 seconds, depending on the current iumination duration setting. E-49

6 Operation Guide To specify the iumination duration LIGHT 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down for about two seconds unti SET appears on the dispay. Note that keeping depressed too ong (for about fi ve seconds) wi cause a different type of setting mode to be entered E-53). 2. Press ten times to dispay the current iumination duration or. 3. Press to togge the setting between (1.5 seconds) and (three seconds). 4. Press to exit the setting screen. About the Auto Light Switch Turning on the auto ight switch causes iumination to turn on, whenever you position your wrist as described beow in any mode. Moving the watch to a position that is parae to the ground and then titing it towards you more than 40 degrees causes iumination to turn on. Wear the watch on the outside of your wrist. Parae to ground More than 40 E-50 E-51 Warning! Aways make sure you are in a safe pace whenever you are reading the dispay of the watch using the auto ight switch. Be especiay carefu when running or engaged in any other activity that can resut in accident or injury. Aso take care that sudden iumination by the auto ight switch does not starte or distract others around you. When you are wearing the watch, make sure that its auto ight switch is turned off before riding a bicyce or operating a motorcyce or any other motor vehice. Sudden and unintended operation of the auto ight switch can create a distraction, which can resut in a traffic accident and serious persona injury. To turn the auto ight switch on and off In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down for about three seconds to togge the auto ight switch on (auto ight switch indicator dispayed) and off (auto ight switch indicator not dispayed). The auto ight switch indicator remains in a modes whie the auto ight switch is turned on. In order to protect against running down the battery, the auto ight switch wi turn off automaticay approximatey six hours after you turn it on. Repeat the above procedure to turn the auto ight switch back on if you want. E-52 Hand Home Position orrection The Tide Graph, and the hour and minute hands of the watch can be thrown off by exposure to strong magnetism or impact. If this happens, you can correct their home positions as required. To adjust home positions 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down for about fi ve seconds unti H-SET ( ) appears in the upper dispay and Sub ( ) appears in the ower dispay. orrect Tide Graph position 2. heck the position of the Tide Graph. The Tide Graph is in the correct home position if it is indicating HIGH (12 o cock position). If it is not correct, use the (+) and ( ) buttons to adjust it. After confi rming that the Tide Graph is in its correct home position, press. E-53 orrect hour and minute hand positions 3. heck the positions of the hour and minute hands. The hands are in the correct home positions if they are pointed at 12 o cock. If they aren t, use (cockwise) and (countercockwise) to adjust their positions. 4. When everything is the way you want, press to return to reguar timekeeping. This wi cause the hour and minute hands to move to the current Timekeeping Mode time, and the Tide Graph to move to the HIGH position. Pressing here wi return to the setting at the beginning of step 2. Reference This section contains more detaied and technica information about watch operation. Button Operation Tone Mute indicator The button operation tone sounds any time you press one of the watch s buttons. You can turn the button operation tone on or off as desired. Even if you turn off the button operation tone, aarms, the Houry Time Signa, and other beepers a operate normay. E-54 E-55 To turn the button operation tone on and off 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down for about two seconds unti SET appears on the dispay. Note that keeping depressed too ong (for about fi ve seconds) wi cause a different type of setting mode to be entered E-53). 2. Press nine times unti the current button operation tone setting (KEY or MUTE) appears. 3. Press to togge the setting between KEY (tone on) and MUTE (tone off). 4. Press to exit the setting screen. The mute indicator is dispayed in a modes when the button operation tone is turned off. Auto Return Features If you eave the watch with a f ashing setting on the dispay for two or three minutes without performing any operation, the watch wi exit the setting mode automaticay. The watch wi automaticay return to the Timekeeping Mode if you do not perform any button operation for a particuar amount of time in each mode. Auto ight switch precautions Avoid wearing the watch on the inside of your wrist. oing so causes the auto ight switch to operate when it is not needed, which shortens battery ife. If iumination does not turn on, try moving the watch back to the starting position (parae with the ground) and then tit it back toward you again. If this does not work, drop your arm a the way down so it hangs at your side, and then bring it back up again. Under certain conditions, iumination may not turn on unti about one second after you turn the face of the watch towards you. This does not necessariy indicate mafunction of the auto ight switch. You may notice a very faint cicking sound coming from the watch when it is shaken back and forth. This sound is caused by mechanica operation of the auto ight switch, and does not indicate a probem with the watch.
