1 SUMMER READING AT P.K.S. Students going into the 7 th Grade at Plantation Key School will be required to read one of the books on this list and complete a book report. The students will also take a test on the book they choose the first week back to school. Have they given a reason why they believe this is the theme? The most common mistake in this section is that they will give the main idea and tell what the story is about. Characters Are there at least three characters listed? Are the characters described well? Has their personality been described? Assign five points for each character that has been described well. Protagonist Have they said who the good guy or central character is in the story? Have they explained why this character is the protagonist? Antagonist - Have they said who the bad guy is in the story? Remember that it doesn t always have to be a person; it is the force that works against the protagonist. Rising Action - Have they clearly stated the events that lead up to the climax? Have they given specific details from the book? Climax Does it seem like what was described is near the end of the story? Have they described in detail and given a reason why this is the climax? Falling Action Have they clearly stated the resolution of the story? Have they given details that show the loose ends are tied up? Opinion Is it at least 4- sentences? Have they stated what they thought about the book? Have they given specific things from the book that supports their opinion?
