2 mall talk Swith pillman The community has spoken and we have responded. Your Muskingum County Library campuses will be smoke-free starting on May 1, Smoking inside the library was banned in 1993 when the Zanesville Health Department passed a Clean Air Resolution. Twenty-five years later, we are instituting smoke-free library campuses at all six locations. We ask our patrons to not smoke on library property. This includes our library buildings, our parking lots, our green spaces, our entrances, and any location considered library property. We ve teamed up with the Muskingum County Health Department to help us implement our new smoking cessation initiative. According to the Health Department, 22.2% of Muskingum County residents smoke and 15.5% teens smoke. There are many health benefits to becoming smoke-free. 1. Lowers the risk of heart disease and heart attacks 2. Significantly reduces your risk of cancer 3. Lowers cholesterol levels 4. Stops irreversible lung damage and prevents emphysema 5. Strengthens your immune system to fight off illnesses 6. Improves night vision 7. Protects your skin from premature aging Beyond the health benefits, you can save money. A patron recently told me that he saved over $2,000 last year just by not buying cigarettes. The Library wishes to provide the most pleasant, healthy, vibrant, and welcoming environment possible. In order to do this, we ask our patrons to respect our new smoke-free campus policy. Together, we will all reap the benefits. Thank you, Jennifer Smoking Cessation Resources: 1.
