2 Dear Parents, This is what we will be covering this half-term in Year 4: Maths Read and record Roman numerals to 100. Rounding to the nearest 10 and 100 and Counting in 10s, 25s, 100s and 1000s. Recognising place value in four digit numbers by partitioning numbers and understanding the numbers which make up larger numbers. Comparing numbers and placing them on a number line/ ordering them (beyond 1000). Understanding negative numbers and counting through 0. Use the column method to add and subtract numbers with up to 4 digits. Estimate and use inverse calculations to check answers. English We will be reading Krindlekrax by Philip Ridley Reading: Discuss words and phrases that capture readers interest and imagination. Use a dictionary to check meanings of words. Ask questions to improve understanding of the text. Draw inferences and justify inferences with evidence. Predict what might happen from information they have deduced. Writing: Use appropriate nouns and pronouns within and across sentences to support cohesion and avoid repetition. I can use noun phrases and expand them. Write legibly and consistently. Compose sentences using a range of sentence structures. Use a range of sentences which have more than one clause.
