2 1 Welcome to Spot On s Spring 2017 tour If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world J. R. R. Tolkien This season, we offer you a joyful odyssey into food, culture and nostalgia. For starters we have curry, chips, and dough and you can finish with the Last Supper. In between courses come and enjoy song, dance and circus from Canada and France; discover wolves, foxes and rabbits; and head back to the 50 s and the rock and roll era. All of our events are made possible by the fabulous volunteers and librarians across the county who work hard to make these events happen. Our promoters work so hard because they love live arts events, and in turn they provide work for professional companies and support their local economy. This great art is possible due to government investment in the arts via the Arts Council England, and additional financial support from Lancashire County Council and five Local Authorities. Please visit our website for more details about the shows, tourist information, directions and venue details. If you value the arts in your community and want to help keep them there, or you re a fan of Spot On and often visit rural Lancashire, please tell us. Below there are six different ways to do this. If your venue is not yet on our map, call Spot On to find out how you can host a show. Call us too if you want future brochures sent direct to your door or want to join our mailing list. 12 11 Spot On Libraries We are halfway through our wonderful libraries touring project, funded by the Arts Council through their strategic touring programme. This project, covering Lancashire and Cheshire, is enabling libraries to try out new events and activities, and to encourage their local community to see their library in a new light. Since the project began we ve had 46 events taking place in libraries in every district, seen by over 2500 people. Last season alone we filled three libraries with Clapper Box - a show where you can be puppeteer and audience; enjoyed some French Chanson, Canadian folk, and for children - a chance to play with sponges and hear tales of lost friends. Coming up this spring there s more international music, shows for families, and even a chance to eat chips between the bookshelves! Spot On events are a fantastic way of showing off what libraries are capable of, surprising customers, providing unusual venues to performers, and broadening horizons and engagement Audience quotes from autumn 2016: The Mysterious Vanishment of Pobby & Dingan: Excellent. I forgot where I was it was so good. I was engrossed and got a lump in my throat a couple of times. Sponge: Very entertaining and the children s interest was held throughout. Clapper Box: This was such a good show! Would love to see more like this in the library
13 Spot On Rural 12 Our rural promoters are fabulous - working for free because they love what they do, each season they return with another great arts offer for their local community. We ve worked with community halls of all shapes and sizes, and never been defeated by a venue yet. We have some gaps around Longridge, and Wyre/ Fylde so if your village is missing - get in touch with us. Last season our rural promoters put on 23 events across the county, with many shows selling out. We had flamenco, Canadian folk, South Asian and Norwegian dance, films about sheep, Lancashire stories, and a wonderful finish to the season from Maire Ni Chathasaigh and Chris Newman, including a candlelight concert in our most remote venue. Spot On brings us all together in a relaxed atmosphere to see world class performances in our own village hall. No car, no bus, no train, no stadium - its priceless Tockholes Promoter: Chris Tobin Audience quotes from autumn 2016: Venetian Ballroom: I loved every minute of the performance. Completely different and absorbing. Red Moon Road: What a talented group and lovely people. Superb! BRING THEM BACK! Instructions For American Servicemen In Britain: Never laughed so much in my life! Thank you
